1 A Prayer of Moses the man of God. LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
[x]MKJV: A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. O LORD, You have been our dwelling-place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
[x]MKJV: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting You [are] God. BBE: Before the mountains were made, before you had given birth to the earth and the world, before time was, and for ever, you are God. 3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
[x]MKJV: You turn man to dust, and say, Return, sons of men. BBE: You send man back to his dust; and say, Go back, you children of men. 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
[x]MKJV: For a thousand years in Your sight [are] as yesterday when it is past, and [as] a watch in the night. BBE: For to you a thousand years are no more than yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night. 5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
[x]MKJV: You carry them away as with a flood; they are [as] a sleep; in the morning [they are] like grass which grows up. BBE: ... 6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
[x]MKJV: In the morning it sprouts and shoots up; in the evening it is cut down, and dries up. BBE: In the morning it is green; in the evening it is cut down, and becomes dry. 7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
[x]MKJV: For we are burned up by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled. BBE: We are burned up by the heat of your passion, and troubled by your wrath. 8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
[x]MKJV: You have set our iniquities before You, our secret [sins] in the light of Your face. BBE: You have put our evil doings before you, our secret sins in the light of your face. 9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
[x]MKJV: For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur. BBE: For all our days have gone by in your wrath; our years come to an end like a breath. 10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
[x]MKJV: The days of our years [are] threescore years and ten; and if by strength they [are] fourscore years, yet their pride [is] labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. BBE: The measure of our life is seventy years; and if through strength it may be eighty years, its pride is only trouble and sorrow, for it comes to an end and we are quickly gone. 11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
[x]MKJV: Who knows the power of Your anger? And as Your fear [is, so is] Your wrath. BBE: Who has knowledge of the power of your wrath, or who takes note of the weight of your passion? 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
[x]MKJV: So teach us to number our days, so that we may bring a heart of wisdom. BBE: So give us knowledge of the number of our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom. 13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
[x]MKJV: Return, O LORD! How long? And give pity to Your servants. BBE: Come back, O Lord; how long? let your purpose for your servants be changed. 14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
[x]MKJV: Satisfy us early with Your mercy, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. BBE: In the morning give us your mercy in full measure; so that we may have joy and delight all our days. 15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
[x]MKJV: Make us glad according to the days of our affliction, the years [in which] we have seen evil. BBE: Make us glad in reward for the days of our sorrow, and for the years in which we have seen evil. 16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
[x]MKJV: Let Your work appear to Your servants, and Your glory to their sons. BBE: Make your work clear to your servants, and your glory to their children. 17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
[x]MKJV: And let the beauty of the LORD our God be on us; and establish the work of our hands on us; yea, the work of our hands, establish it. BBE: Let the pleasure of the Lord our God be on us: O Lord, give strength to the work of our hands. |
