1 Now there came a time, in the days of the judges, when there was no food in the land. And a certain man went from Beth-lehem-judah, he and his wife and his two sons, to make a living-place in the country of Moab.

5 And Mahlon and Chilion came to their end; and the woman was without her two sons and her husband.

6 Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread.[x]MKJV: Then she arose with her daughters-in-law so that she might return from the fields of Moab. 12 Go back, my daughters, and go on your way; I am so old now that I may not have another husband. If I said, I have hopes, if I had a husband tonight, and might have sons,
12 내 딸들아 돌이켜 너희 길로 가라 나는 늙었으니 남편을 두지 못할찌라 가령 내가 소망이 있다고 말한다든지 오늘 밤에 남편을 두어서 아들들을 생산한다 하자
13 Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.[x]MKJV: would you wait for them until they were grown? Will you shut yourselves up, not to have a husband? No, my daughters, for it makes me very sad for your sakes that the hand of the LORD has gone out against me. BBE: Would you keep yourselves till they were old enough? would you keep from having husbands for them? No, my daughters; but I am very sad for you that the hand of the Lord is against me. 14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpahkissed her mother in law; but Ruthclave unto her.[x]MKJV: And they lifted up their voice and wept again. And Orpah kissed her mother-in-law. But Ruth clung to her. BBE: Then again they were weeping; and Orpah gave her mother-in-law a kiss, but Ruth would not be parted from her. 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORDdo so to me, and more also, if ought but deathpart thee and me.[x]MKJV: Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD do so to me, and more also, [if anything] but death parts you and me. BBE: Wherever death comes to you, death will come to me, and there will be my last resting-place; the Lord do so to me and more if we are parted by anything but death. 17 어머니께서 죽으시는 곳에서 나도 죽어 거기 장사될 것이라 만일 내가 죽는 일 외에 어머니와 떠나면 여호와께서 내게 벌을 내리시고 더 내리시기를 원하나이다
18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she leftspeaking unto her.[x]MKJV: When she saw that she was determined to go with her, then she quit speaking to her. BBE: And when she saw that Ruth was strong in her purpose to go with her she said no more. KAV: 룻이 자기와 함께 가기로 굳게 결심한 것을 보고 나오미가 그녀에게 말하기를 그치니라. 18 And when she saw that Ruth was strong in her purpose to go with her she said no more.

19 So they twowent until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?[x]MKJV: And both of them went until they came to Bethlehem. And it happened when they had come to Bethlehem, all the city was moved about them, and they said, [Is] this Naomi? BBE: So the two of them went on till they came to Beth-lehem. And when they came to Beth-lehem all the town was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? 19 So the two of them went on till they came to Beth-lehem. And when they came to Beth-lehem all the town was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
19 이에 그 두 사람이 행하여 베들레헴까지 이르니라 베들레헴에 이를 때에 온 성읍이 그들을 인하여 떠들며 이르기를 이가 나오미냐 하는지라
20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt verybitterly with me.[x]MKJV: And she said to them, Do not call me Naomi, call me Mara. For the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. BBE: And she said to them, Do not let my name be Naomi, but Mara, for the Ruler of all has given me a bitter fate. 20 And she said to them, Do not let my name be Naomi, but Mara, for the Ruler of all has given me a bitter fate.

21 I went outfull, and the LORD hath brought me home againempty: why thencall ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?[x]MKJV: I went out full, and the LORD has brought me back empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me? BBE: I went out full, and the Lord has sent me back again with nothing; why do you give me the name Naomi, seeing that the Lord has given witness against me, and the Ruler of all has sent sorrow on me? KAV: 내가 풍족하게 나갔으나 {주}께서 나를 빈손으로 집에 돌아오게 하셨느니라. {주}께서 나를 대적하는 증거를 보이셨고 [전능자]께서 나를 괴롭게 하셨거늘 너희가 어찌하여 나를 나오미라 부르느냐? 하니라. 21 내가 풍족하게 나갔더니 여호와께서 나로 비어 돌아오게 하셨느니라 여호와께서 나를 징벌하셨고 전능자가 나를 괴롭게 하셨거늘 너희가 어찌 나를 나오미라 칭하느뇨 하니라
22 So Naomireturned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barleyharvest.[x]MKJV: And Naomi returned; and Ruth, who was of Moab, her daughter-in-law, was with her, returning out of the fields of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest. BBE: So Naomi came back out of the country of Moab, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her; and they came to Beth-lehem in the first days of the grain-cutting.
