믿는 자들은 죄에 대해 죽고 하나님께 대해 살아야 함. (1,2) 이는 그들의 기독교 세례와 그리스도와의 연합으로 촉구됨. (3-10) 그들이 하나님께 대해 살아나다. (11-15) 그리고 죄의 지배에서 자유롭게 되다. (16-20) 죄의 끝은 사망이요, 거룩함의 끝은 영생임. (21-23)
1What shall we saythen? Shall we continue in sin, thatgrace may abound?
1 What may we say, then? are we to go on in sin so that there may be more grace?

2 God forbidㆍ. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longertherein?
2 In no way. How may we, who are dead to sin, be living in it any longer?
4Therefore we are buried withhimbybaptismintodeath: that like asChrist was raised upfrom the deadby the glory of the Father, even sowealso should walkinnewness of life.
4 We have been placed with him among the dead through baptism into death: so that as Christ came again from the dead by the glory of the Father, we, in the same way, might be living in new life.
4 그러므로 우리가 그의 죽으심과 합하여 세례를 받음으로 그와 함께 장사되었나니 이는 아버지의 영광으로 말미암아 그리스도를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리심과 같이 우리로 또한 새 생명 가운데서 행하게 하려 함이니라
5Forif we have been planted together in the likeness of hisdeath, we shall bealsoin the likeness of hisresurrection:
5 For, if we have been made like him in his death, we will, in the same way, be like him in his coming to life again;
5 만일 우리가 그의 죽으심을 본받아 연합한 자가 되었으면 또한 그의 부활을 본받아 연합한 자가 되리라

6Knowingthis, thatouroldman is crucified withhim,that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforthweshouldnotservesin.

6 우리가 알거니와 우리 옛 사람이 예수와 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은 죄의 몸이 멸하여 다시는 우리가 죄에게 종노릇 하지 아니하려 함이니

9 이는 그리스도께서 죽은 자 가운데서 사셨으매 다시 죽지 아니하시고 사망이 다시 그를 주장하지 못할 줄을 앎이로라

10Forin that he died, he died unto sinonce: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

13Neither yield yeyourmembersasinstruments of unrighteousness unto sin: butyieldyourselves unto God, as those that are alivefrom the dead, andyourmembersasinstruments of righteousness unto God.
13 And do not give your bodies to sin as the instruments of wrongdoing, but give yourselves to God, as those who are living from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God.
13 또한 너희 지체를 불의의 병기로 죄에게 드리지 말고 오직 너희 자신을 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 산 자 같이 하나님께 드리며 너희 지체를 의의 병기로 하나님께 드리라
15Whatthen? shall we sin, because we arenotunder the law, butundergrace? God forbid.
15 What then? are we to go on in sin because we are not under law but under grace? Let it not be so.
15 그런즉 어찌하리요 우리가 법 아래 있지 아니하고 은혜 아래 있으니 죄를 지으리요 그럴 수 없느니라

17ButGod be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyedfrom the heart that form of doctrinewhichwas delivered you.
17 But praise be to God that though you were the servants of sin, you have now given yourselves freely to that form of teaching under which you were placed;
19 I speak after the manner of menbecause of the infirmity of yourflesh: foras ye have yieldedyourmembersservants to uncleannessand to iniquityuntoiniquity; even sonowyieldyourmembersservants to righteousnessuntoholiness.
19 I am using words in the way of men, because your flesh is feeble: as you gave your bodies as servants to what is unclean, and to evil to do evil, so now give them as servants to righteousness to do what is holy.
19 너희 육신이 연약하므로 내가 사람의 예대로 말하노니 전에 너희가 너희 지체를 부정과 불법에 드려 불법에 이른것 같이 이제는 너희 지체를 의에게 종으로 드려 거룩함에 이르라

21 What fruit had you at that time in the things which are now a shame to you? for the end of such things is death.
21 너희가 그 때에 무슨 열매를 얻었느뇨 이제는 너희가 그 일을 부끄러워하나니 이는 그 마지막이 사망임이니라
