1Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
1 Do not make a noise about tomorrow, for you are not certain what a day's outcome may be.
1 너는 내일 일을 자랑하지 말라 하루 동안에 무슨 일이 날는지 네가 알 수 없음이니라
2 Let another manpraise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
2 Let another man give you praise, and not your mouth; one who is strange to you, and not your lips.
2 타인으로 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입으로는 말며 외인으로 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입술로는 말찌니라
3 A stoneisheavy, and the sandweighty; but a fool'swrathisheavier than them both.
3 A stone has great weight, and sand is crushing; but the wrath of the foolish is of greater weight than these.
3 돌은 무겁고 모래도 가볍지 아니하거니와 미련한 자의 분노는 이 둘보다 무거우니라
4Wrathiscruel, and angerisoutrageous; but who is able to standbeforeenvy?
4 Wrath is cruel, and angry feeling an overflowing stream; but who does not give way before envy?
4 분은 잔인하고 노는 창수 같거니와 투기 앞에야 누가 서리요
5Openrebukeisbetter than secretlove.
5 Better is open protest than love kept secret.
5 면책은 숨은 사랑보다 나으니라
6Faithfulare the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemyaredeceitful.
6 The wounds of a friend are given in good faith, but the kisses of a hater are false.
6 친구의 통책은 충성에서 말미암은 것이나 원수의 자주 입맞춤은 거짓에서 난 것이니라
7 The fullsoulloatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungrysoul every bitter thing is sweet.
7 The full man has no use for honey, but to the man in need of food every bitter thing is sweet.
7 배부른 자는 꿀이라도 싫어하고 주린 자에게는 쓴 것이라도 다니라
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
8 Like a bird wandering from the place of her eggs is a man wandering from his station.
8 본향을 떠나 유리하는 사람은 보금자리를 떠나 떠도는 새와 같으니라
9Ointment and perfumerejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by heartycounsel.
9 Oil and perfume make glad the heart, and the wise suggestion of a friend is sweet to the soul.
9 기름과 향이 사람의 마음을 즐겁게 하나니 친구의 충성된 권고가 이와 같이 아름다우니라
10 Thine own friend, and thy father'sfriend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother'shouse in the day of thy calamity: forbetteris a neighbourthat isnear than a brother far off.
10 Do not give up your friend and your father's friend; and do not go into your brother's house in the day of your trouble: better is a neighbour who is near than a brother far off.
10 네 친구와 네 아비의 친구를 버리지 말며 네 환난날에 형제의 집에 들어가지 말찌어다 가까운 이웃이 먼 형제보다 나으니라
11 My son, be wise, and make my heartglad, that I may answerㆍ him that reproacheth me.
11 My son, be wise and make my heart glad, so that I may give back an answer to him who puts me to shame.
11 내 아들아 지혜를 얻고 내 마음을 기쁘게 하라 그리하면 나를 비방하는 자에게 내가 대답할 수 있겠노라
12 A prudentmanforeseeth the evil, andhideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
12 The sharp man sees the evil and takes cover: the simple go straight on and get into trouble.
12 슬기로운 자는 재앙을 보면 숨어 피하여도 어리석은 자들은 나아가다가 해를 받느니라
13Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
13 Take a man's clothing if he makes himself responsible for a strange man, and get an undertaking from him who gives his word for strange men.
13 타인을 위하여 보증이 된 자의 옷을 취하라 외인들의 보증이 된 자는 그 몸을 볼모잡힐찌니라
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loudvoice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
14 He who gives a blessing to his friend with a loud voice, getting up early in the morning, will have it put to his account as a curse.
14 이른 아침에 큰 소리로 그 이웃을 축복하면 도리어 저주 같이 여기게 되리라
15 A continualdropping in a very rainyday and a contentiousㆍwoman are alike.
15 Like an unending dropping on a day of rain is a bitter-tongued woman.
15 다투는 부녀는 비오는 날에 이어 떨어지는 물방울이라
16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, whichbewrayethitself.
16 He who keeps secret the secret of his friend, will get himself a name for good faith.
16 그를 제어하기가 바람을 제어하는 것 같고 오른손으로 기름을 움키는 것 같으니라
17Ironsharpenethiron; so a mansharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
17 Iron makes iron sharp; so a man makes sharp his friend.
17 철이 철을 날카롭게 하는 것 같이 사람이 그 친구의 얼굴을 빛나게 하느니라
18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
18 Whoever keeps a fig-tree will have its fruit; and the servant waiting on his master will be honoured.
18 무화과나무를 지키는 자는 그 과실을 먹고 자기 주인을 시종하는 자는 영화를 얻느니라
19 As in waterfaceanswereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
19 Like face looking at face in water, so are the hearts of men to one another.
19 물에 비취이면 얼굴이 서로 같은 것 같이 사람의 마음도 서로 비취느니라
20Hell and destructionㆍ are neverfull; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
20 The underworld and Abaddon are never full, and the eyes of man have never enough.
20 음부와 유명은 만족함이 없고 사람의 눈도 만족함이 없느니라
21As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a manto his praise.
21 The heating-pot is for silver and the oven-fire for gold, and a man is measured by what he is praised for.
21 도가니로 은을, 풀무로 금을, 칭찬으로 사람을 시련하느니라
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortaramongwheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishnessdepart from him.
22 Even if a foolish man is crushed with a hammer in a vessel among crushed grain, still his foolish ways will not go from him.
22 미련한 자를 곡물과 함께 절구에 넣고 공이로 찧을찌라도 그의 미련은 벗어지지 아니하느니라
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, andlookwell to thy herds.
23 Take care to have knowledge about the condition of your flocks, looking well after your herds;
23 네 양떼의 형편을 부지런히 살피며 네 소떼에 마음을 두라
24 For richesare not for ever: and doth the crownendure to everygeneration?
24 For wealth is not for ever, and money does not go on for all generations.
24 대저 재물은 영영히 있지 못하나니 면류관이 어찌 대대에 있으랴
25 The hayappeareth, and the tender grassshoweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
25 The grass comes up and the young grass is seen, and the mountain plants are got in.
25 풀을 벤 후에는 새로 움이 돋나니 산에서 꼴을 거둘 것이니라
26 The lambsare for thy clothing, and the goatsare the price of the field.
26 The lambs are for your clothing, and the he-goats make the value of a field:
26 어린 양의 털은 네 옷이 되며 염소는 밭을 사는 값이 되며
27 And thou shalt havegoatsmilkenough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
27 There will be goats' milk enough for your food, and for the support of your servant-girls.
