1 These are more wise sayings of Solomon, copied out by the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah.
1 이것도 솔로몬의 잠언이요 유다 왕 히스기야의 신하들의 편집한 것이니라
2It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kingsis to search out a matter.
2 It is the glory of God to keep a thing secret: but the glory of kings is to have it searched out.
2 일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영화요 일을 살피는 것은 왕의 영화니라
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kingsisunsearchable.
3 The heaven is high and the earth is deep, and the hearts of kings may not be searched out.
3 하늘의 높음과 땅의 깊음 같이 왕의 마음은 헤아릴 수 없느니라
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
4 Take away the waste from silver, and a vessel will come out for the silver-worker.
4 은에서 찌끼를 제하라 그리하면 장색의 쓸만한 그릇이 나올 것이요
5 Take away the wickedfrombefore the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
5 Take away evil-doers from before the king, and the seat of his power will be made strong in righteousness.
5 왕 앞에서 악한 자를 제하라 그리하면 그 위가 의로 말미암아 견고히 서리라
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of greatmen:
6 Do not take glory for yourself before the king, and do not put yourself in the place of the great:
6 왕 앞에서 스스로 높은체 하지말며 대인의 자리에 서지 말라
7 For betterit is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
7 For it is better to have it said to you, Come up here; than for you to be put down in a lower place before the ruler.
7 이는 사람이 너더러 이리로 올라오라 하는 것이 네 눈에 보이는 귀인 앞에서 저리로 내려가라 하는 것보다 나음이니라
8 Go not forthhastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
8 Do not be quick to go to law about what you have seen, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbour has put you to shame?
8 너는 급거히 나가서 다투지 말라 마침내 네가 이웃에게 욕을 보게 될 때에 네가 어찌할줄을 알지 못할까 두려우니라
9Debate thy cause with thy neighbourhimself; and discover not a secret to another:
9 Have a talk with your neighbour himself about your cause, but do not give away the secret of another:
9 너는 이웃과 다투거든 변론만 하고 남의 은밀한 일은 누설하지 말라
10 Lest he that hearethit put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
10 Or your hearer may say evil of you, and your shame will not be turned away.
10 듣는 자가 너를 꾸짖을 터이요 또 수욕이 네게서 떠나지 아니할까 두려우니라
11 A wordfitlyㆍspokenis likeapples of gold in pictures of silver.
11 A word at the right time is like apples of gold in a network of silver.
11 경우에 합당한 말은 아로새긴 은쟁반에 금사과니라
12As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wisereprover upon an obedientear.
12 Like a nose-ring of gold and an ornament of the best gold, is a wise man who says sharp words to an ear ready to give attention.
12 슬기로운 자의 책망은 청종하는 귀에 금고리와 정금 장식이니라
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithfulmessenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of grain-cutting, so is a true servant to those who send him; for he gives new life to the soul of his master.
13 충성된 사자는 그를 보낸 이에게 마치 추수하는 날에 얼음 냉수 같아서 능히 그 주인의 마음을 시원케 하느니라
14Whosoboasteth himself of a falsegiftis likeclouds and wind without rain.
14 As clouds and wind without rain, so is one who takes credit for an offering he has not given.
14 선물한다고 거짓 자랑하는 자는 비 없는 구름과 바람 같으니라
15 By longforbearing is a princepersuaded, and a softtonguebreaketh the bone.
15 A judge is moved by one who for a long time undergoes wrongs without protest, and by a soft tongue even bone is broken.
15 오래 참으면 관원이 그 말을 용납하나니 부드러운 혀는 뼈를 꺾느니라
16 Hast thou foundhoney? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
16 If you have honey, take only as much as is enough for you; for fear that, being full of it, you may not be able to keep it down.
16 너는 꿀을 만나거든 족하리만큼 먹으라 과식하므로 토할까 두려우니라
17Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour'shouse; lest he be weary of thee, and sohate thee.
17 Let not your foot be frequently in your neighbour's house, or he may get tired of you, and his feeling be turned to hate.
17 너는 이웃집에 자주 다니지말라 그가 너를 싫어하며 미워할까 두려우니라
18 A man that bearethfalsewitness against his neighbouris a maul, and a sword, and a sharparrow.
18 One who gives false witness against his neighbour is a hammer and a sword and a sharp arrow.
18 그 이웃을 쳐서 거짓 증거하는 사람은 방망이요 칼이요 뾰족한 살이니라
19Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of troubleis like a brokentooth, and a foot out of joint.
19 Putting one's faith in a false man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth and a shaking foot.
19 환난날에 진실치 못한 자를 의뢰하는 의뢰는 부러진 이와 위골된 발 같으니라
20As he that taketh away a garment in coldweather, and asvinegar upon nitre, so is he that singethsongs to an heavyheart.
20 Like one who takes off clothing in cold weather and like acid on a wound, is he who makes melody to a sad heart.
20 마음이 상한 자에게 노래하는 것은 추운 날에 옷을 벗음 같고 쏘다 위에 초를 부음 같으니라
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
21 If your hater is in need of food, give him bread; and if he is in need of drink, give him water:
21 네 원수가 배고파하거든 식물을 먹이고 목말라하거든 물을 마시우라
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
22 For so you will put coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will give you your reward.
22 그리하는 것은 핀 숯으로 그의 머리에 놓는 것과 일반이요 여호와께서는 네게 상을 주시리라
23 The northwind driveth awayrain: so doth an angrycountenance a backbitingtongue.
23 As the north wind gives birth to rain, so is an angry face caused by a tongue saying evil secretly.
23 북풍이 비를 일으킴 같이 참소하는 혀는 사람의 얼굴에 분을 일으키느니라
24It isbetter to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawlingㆍwoman and in a widehouse.
24 It is better to be living in an angle of the house-top, than with a bitter-tongued woman in a wide house.
24 다투는 여인과 함께 큰 집에서 사는 것보다 움막에서 혼자 사는 것이 나으니라
25Ascoldwaters to a thirstysoul, so isgoodnews from a farcountry.
25 As cold water to a tired soul, so is good news from a far country.
25 먼 땅에서 오는 좋은 기별은 목마른 사람에게 냉수 같으니라
26 A righteous man falling downbefore the wickedis as a troubledfountain, and a corruptspring.
26 Like a troubled fountain and a dirty spring, is an upright man who has to give way before evil-doers.
26 의인이 악인 앞에 굴복하는 것은 우물의 흐리어짐과 샘의 더러워짐 같으니라
27It is not good to eatmuchhoney: so for men to search their own gloryis notglory.
27 It is not good to take much honey: so he who is not looking for honour will be honoured.
27 꿀을 많이 먹는 것이 좋지 못하고 자기의 영예를 구하는 것이 헛되니라
28He that hath no rule over his own spiritis like a citythat is broken down, and without walls.
28 He whose spirit is uncontrolled is like an unwalled town which has been broken into.
