1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.	1 The king's heart in the hands of the Lord is like the water streams, and by him it is turned in any direction at his pleasure.	1 왕의 마음이 여호와의 손에 있음이 마치 보의 물과 같아서 그가 임의로 인도하시느니라

6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.	6 He who gets stores of wealth by a false tongue, is going after what is only breath, and searching for death.	6 속이는 말로 재물을 모으는 것은 죽음을 구하는 것이라 곧 불려다니는 안개니라

7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.	7 By their violent acts the evil-doers will be pulled away, because they have no desire to do what is right.	7 악인의 강포는 자기를 소멸하나니 이는 공의 행하기를 싫어함이니라

8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.	8 Twisted is the way of him who is full of crime; but as for him whose heart is clean, his work is upright.	8 죄를 크게 범한 자의 길은 심히 구부러지고 깨끗한 자의 길은 곧으니라

9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling ㆍ woman in a wide house.	9 It is better to be living in an angle of the house-top, than with a bitter-tongued woman in a wide house.	9 다투는 여인과 함께 큰 집에서 사는 것보다 움막에서 혼자 사는 것이 나으니라

10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.	10 The desire of the evil-doer is fixed on evil: he has no kind feeling for his neighbour.	10 악인의 마음은 남의 재앙을 원하나니 그 이웃도 그 앞에서 은혜를 입지 못하느니라

11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.	11 When the man of pride undergoes punishment, the simple man gets wisdom; and by watching the wise he gets knowledge.	11 거만한 자가 벌을 받으면 어리석은 자는 경성하겠고 지혜로운 자가 교훈을 받으면 지식이 더 하리라

12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.	12 The Upright One, looking on the house of the evil-doer, lets sinners be overturned to their destruction.	12 의로우신 자는 악인의 집을 감찰하시고 악인을 환난에 던지시느니라

13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.	13 He whose ears are stopped at the cry of the poor, will himself get no answer to his cry for help.	13 귀를 막아 가난한 자의 부르짖는 소리를 듣지 아니하면 자기의 부르짖을 때에도 들을 자가 없으리라

14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.	14 By a secret offering wrath is turned away, and the heat of angry feelings by money in the folds of the robe.	14 은밀한 선물은 노를 쉬게 하고 품의 뇌물은 맹렬한 분을 그치게 하느니라

15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.	15 It is a joy to the good man to do right, but it is destruction to the workers of evil.	15 공의를 행하는 것이 의인에게는 즐거움이요 죄인에게는 패망이니라

16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.	16 The wanderer from the way of knowledge will have his resting-place among the shades.	16 명철의 길을 떠난 사람은 사망의 회중에 거하리라

17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.	17 The lover of pleasure will be a poor man: the lover of wine and oil will not get wealth.	17 연락을 좋아하는 자는 가난하게 되고 술과 기름을 좋아하는 자는 부하게 되지 못하느니라

18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.	18 The evil-doer will be given as a price for the life of the good man, and the worker of deceit in the place of the upright.	18 악인은 의인의 대속이 되고 궤사한 자는 정직한 자의 대신이 되느니라

19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness ㆍ, than with a contentious ㆍ and an angry woman.	19 It is better to be living in a waste land, than with a bitter-tongued and angry woman.	19 다투며 성내는 여인과 함께 사는 것보다 광야에서 혼자 사는 것이 나으니라

20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.	20 There is a store of great value in the house of the wise, but it is wasted by the foolish man.	20 지혜 있는 자의 집에는 귀한 보배와 기름이 있으나 미련한 자는 이것을 다 삼켜 버리느니라

21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.	21 He who goes after righteousness and mercy will get life, righteousness, and honour.	21 의와 인자를 따라 구하는 자는 생명과 의와 영광을 얻느니라

22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.	22 A wise man goes up into the town of the strong ones, and overcomes its strength in which they put their faith.	22 지혜로운 자는 용사의 성에 올라가서 그 성의 견고히 의뢰하는 것을 파하느니라

23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.	23 He who keeps watch over his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.	23 입과 혀를 지키는 자는 그 영혼을 환난에서 보전하느니라

24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.	24 The man of pride, lifted up in soul, is named high-hearted; he is acting in an outburst of pride.	24 무례하고 교만한 자를 이름하여 망령된 자라 하나니 이는 넘치는 교만으로 행함이니라

25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.	25 The desire of the hater of work is death to him, for his hands will do no work.	25 게으른 자의 정욕이 그를 죽이나니 이는 그 손으로 일하기를 싫어 함이니라

26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.	26 All the day the sinner goes after his desire: but the upright man gives freely, keeping nothing back.	26 어떤 자는 종일토록 탐하기만 하나 의인은 아끼지 아니하고 시제하느니라

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?	27 The offering of evil-doers is disgusting: how much more when they give it with an evil purpose!	27 악인의 제물은 본래 가증하거든 하물며 악한 뜻으로 드리는 것이랴

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.	30 Wisdom and knowledge and wise suggestions are of no use against the Lord.	30 지혜로도, 명철로도, 모략으로도 여호와를 당치 못하느니라

31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.	31 The horse is made ready for the day of war, but power to overcome is from the Lord.	31 싸울 날을 위하여 마병을 예비하거니와 이김은 여호와께 있느니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
