And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.1 Now when Balaam saw that it was the Lord's pleasure to give his blessing to Israel, he did not, as at other times, make use of secret arts, but turning his face to the waste land,1 발람이 자기가 이스라엘을 축복하는 것을 여호와께서 선히 여기심을 보고 전과 같이 사술을 쓰지 아니하고 그 낯을 광야로 향하여
And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.2 And lifting up his eyes, he saw Israel there, with their tents in the order of their tribes: and the spirit of God came on him.2 눈을 들어 이스라엘이 그 지파대로 거하는 것을 보는 동시에 하나님의 신이 그 위에 임하신지라
And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:3 And moved by the spirit, he said, These are the words of Balaam, son of Beor, the words of the man whose eyes are open:3 그가 노래를 지어 가로되 브올의 아들 발람이 말하며 눈을 감았던 자가 말하며
He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:4 He says, whose ears are open to the words of God, who has seen the vision of the Ruler of all, falling down, but having his eyes open:4 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자, 전능자의 이상을 보는 자, 엎드려서 눈을 뜬 자가 말하기를
How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!5 How fair are your tents, O Jacob, your houses, O Israel!5 야곱이여 네 장막이, 이스라엘이여 네 거처가 어찌 그리 아름다운고
As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.6 They are stretched out like valleys, like gardens by the riverside, like flowering trees planted by the Lord, like cedar-trees by the waters.6 그 벌어짐이 골짜기 같고 강 가의 동산 같으며 여호와의 심으신 침향목들 같고 물 가의 백향목들 같도다
He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.7 Peoples will be in fear before his strength, his arm will be on great nations: his king will be higher than Agag, and his kingdom made great in honour.7 그 통에서는 물이 넘치겠고 그 종자는 많은 물 가에 있으리로다 그 왕이 아각보다 높으니 그 나라가 진흥하리로다
God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.8 It is God who has taken him out of Egypt; his horns are like those of the mountain ox; the nations warring against him will be his food, their bones will be broken, they will be wounded with his arrows.8 하나님이 그를 애굽에서 인도하여 내셨으니 그 힘이 들소와 같도다 그 적국을 삼키고 그들의 뼈를 꺾으며 화살로 쏘아 꿰뚫으리로다
He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.9 He took his sleep stretched out like a lion, and like a she-lion: by whom will his rest be broken? May a blessing be on everyone who gives you blessing, and a curse on everyone by whom you are cursed.9 꿇어 앉고 누움이 수사자와 같고 암사자와도 같으니 일으킬 자 누구이랴 너를 축복하는 자마다 복을 받을 것이요 너를 저주하는 자마다 저주를 받을찌로다
And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.10 Then Balak was full of wrath against Balaam, and angrily waving his hands he said to Balaam, I sent for you so that those who are against me might be cursed, but now, see, three times you have given them a blessing.10 발락이 발람에게 노하여 손뼉을 치며 발람에게 말하되 내가 그대를 부른 것은 내 원수를 저주하라 함이어늘 그대가 이같이 세번 그들을 축복하였도다
Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.11 Go back quickly to the place you came from: it was my purpose to give you a place of honour, but now the Lord has kept you back from honour.11 그러므로 그대는 이제 그대의 곳으로 달려가라 내가 그대를 높여 심히 존귀케 하기로 뜻하였더니 여호와가 그대를 막아 존귀치 못하게 하셨도다
And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,12 Then Balaam said to Balak, Did I not say to the men you sent to me,12 발람이 발락에게 이르되 당신이 내게 보낸 사자들에게 내가 고하여 이르지 아니하였나이까
If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?13 Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, it would not be possible for me to go outside the orders of the Lord, doing good or evil at the impulse of my mind; whatever the Lord says I will say?13 가령 발락이 그 집에 은금을 가득히 채워서 내게 줄찌라도 나는 여호와의 말씀을 어기고 선악간 임의로 행하지 못하고 여호와께서 말씀하신대로 말하리라 하지 아니하였나이까
And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.14 So now I will go back to my people: but first let me make clear to you what this people will do to your people in days to come.14 이제 나는 내 백성에게로 돌아가거니와 들으소서 내가 이 백성이 후일에 당신의 백성에게 어떻게 할 것을 당신에게 고하리이다 하고
And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:15 Then he went on with his story and said, These are the words of Balaam, the son of Beor, the words of him whose eyes are open:15 노래를 지어 가로되 브올의 아들 발람이 말하며 눈을 감았던 자가 말하며
He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:16 He says, whose ear is open to the words of God, who has knowledge of the Most High, who has seen the vision of the Ruler of all, falling down and having his eyes open:16 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자가 말하며 지극히 높으신 자의 지식을 아는 자, 전능자의 이상을 보는 자, 엎드려서 눈을 뜬 자가 말하기를
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.17 I see him, but not now: looking on him, but not near: a star will come out of Jacob, and a rod of authority out of Israel, sending destruction to the farthest limits of Moab and on the head of all the sons of Sheth.17 내가 그를 보아도 이 때의 일이 아니며 내가 그를 바라보아도 가까운 일이 아니로다 한 별이 야곱에게서 나오며 한 홀이 이스라엘에게서 일어나서 모압을 이 편에서 저 편까지 쳐서 파하고 또 소동하는 자식들을 다 멸하리로다
And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.18 Edom will be his heritage, and he will put an end to the last of the people of Seir.18 그 원수 에돔은 그들의 산업이 되며 그 원수 세일도 그들의 산업이 되고 그 동시에 이스라엘은 용감히 행동하리로다
Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.19 And Israel will go on in strength, and Jacob will have rule over his haters.19 주권자가 야곱에게서 나서 남은 자들을 그 성읍에서 멸절하리로다 하고
And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.20 Then, turning his eyes to Amalek, he went on with his story and said, Amalek was the first of the nations, but his part will be destruction for ever.20 또 아말렉을 바라보며 노래를 지어 가로되 아말렉은 열국중 으뜸이나 종말은 멸망에 이르리로다 하고
And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.21 And looking on the Kenites he went on with his story and said, Strong is your living-place, and your secret place is safe in the rock.21 또 가인 족속을 바라보며 노래를 지어 가로되 너의 거처가 견고하니 네 보금자리는 바위에 있도다
Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.22 But still the Kenites will be wasted, till Asshur takes you away prisoner.22 그러나 가인이 쇠미하리니 나중에는 앗수르의 포로가 되리로다 하고
And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!23 Then he went on with his story and said, But who may keep his life when God does this?23 또 노래를 지어 가로되 슬프다 하나님이 이 일을 행하시리니 그 때에 살 자가 누구이랴
And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.24 But ships will come from the direction of Kittim, troubling Asshur and troubling Eber, and like the others their fate will be destruction.24 깃딤 해변에서 배들이 와서 앗수르를 학대하며 에벨을 괴롭게 하리라마는 그도 멸망하리로다 하고
And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.25 Then Balaam got up and went back to his place: and Balak went away.25 발람이 일어나 자기 곳으로 돌아갔고 발락도 자기 길로 갔더라
