1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.1 And it came to the ears of the Canaanite, the king of Arad, living in the South, that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, and he came out against them and took some of them prisoners.1 남방에 거하는 가나안 사람 곧 아랏의 왕이 이스라엘이 아다림 길로 온다 함을 듣고 이스라엘을 쳐서 그 중 몇 사람을 사로잡은지라
2 And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.2 Then Israel made an oath to the Lord, and said, If you will give up this people into my hands, then I will send complete destruction on all their towns.2 이스라엘이 여호와께 서원하여 가로되 주께서 만일 이 백성을 내 손에 붙이시면 내가 그들의 성읍을 다 멸하리이다
3 And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.3 And the Lord, in answer to the voice of Israel, gave the Canaanites up to them; and they put them and their towns completely to destruction: and that place was named Hormah.3 여호와께서 이스라엘의 소리를 들으시고 가나안 사람을 붙이시매 그들과 그 성읍을 다 멸하니라 그러므로 그곳 이름을 호르마라 하였더라
4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.4 Then they went on from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, going round the land of Edom: and the spirit of the people was overcome with weariness on the way.4 백성이 호르산에서 진행하여 홍해 길로 좇아 에돔 땅을 둘러 행하려 하였다가 길로 인하여 백성의 마음이 상하니라
5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.5 And crying out against God and against Moses, they said, Why have you taken us out of Egypt to come to our death in the waste land? For there is no bread and no water, and this poor bread is disgusting to us.5 백성이 하나님과 모세를 향하여 원망하되 어찌하여 우리를 애굽에서 인도하여 올려서 이 광야에서 죽게 하는고 이곳에는 식물도 없고 물도 없도다 우리 마음이 이 박한 식물을 싫어하노라 하매
6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.6 Then the Lord sent poison-snakes among the people; and their bites were a cause of death to numbers of the people of Israel.6 여호와께서 불뱀들을 백성 중에 보내어 백성을 물게 하시므로 이스라엘 백성 중에 죽은 자가 많은지라
7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.7 Then the people came to Moses and said, We have done wrong in crying out against the Lord and against you: make prayer to the Lord to take away the snakes from us. So Moses made prayer for the people.7 백성이 모세에게 이르러 가로되 우리가 여호와와 당신을 향하여 원망하므로 범죄하였사오니 여호와께 기도하여 이 뱀들을 우리에게서 떠나게 하소서 모세가 백성을 위하여 기도하매
8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.8 And the Lord said to Moses, Make an image of a snake and put it on a rod, and anyone who has been wounded by the snakes, looking on it will be made well.8 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 불뱀을 만들어 장대 위에 달라 물린 자마다 그것을 보면 살리라
9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.9 So Moses made a snake of brass and put it on a rod; and anyone who had a snakebite, after looking on the snake of brass, was made well.9 모세가 놋뱀을 만들어 장대 위에 다니 뱀에게 물린 자마다 놋뱀을 쳐다본즉 살더라
10 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.10 Then the children of Israel went on and put up their tents in Oboth.10 이스라엘 자손이 진행하여 오봇에 진 쳤고
11 And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.11 And journeying on again from Oboth, they put up their tents in Iye-abarim, in the waste land before Moab looking east.11 오봇에서 진행하여 모압 앞 해 돋는 편 광야 이예아바림에 진 쳤고
12 From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.12 And moving on from there, they put up their tents in the valley of Zered.12 거기서 진행하여 세렛 골짜기에 진 쳤고
13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.13 From there they went on and put up their tents on the other side of the Arnon, which is on the waste land at the edge of the land of the Amorites; for the Arnon is the line of division between Moab and the Amorites:13 거기서 진행하여 아모리인의 지경에서 흘러 나와서 광야에 이른 아르논 건너편에 진 쳤으니 아르논은 모압과 아모리 사이에서 모압의 경계가 된 것이라
14 Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,14 As it says in the book of the Wars of the Lord, Vaheb in Suphah, and the valley of the Amon;14 이러므로 여호와의 전쟁기에 일렀으되 수바의 와헙과 아르논 골짜기와
15 And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.15 The slope of the valleys going down to the tents of Ar and touching the edge of Moab.15 모든 골짜기의 비탈은 아르 고을을 향하여 기울어지고 모압의 경계에 닿았도다 하였더라
16 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.16 From there they went on to Beer, the water-spring of which the Lord said to Moses, Make the people come together and I will give them water.16 거기서 브엘에 이르니 브엘은 여호와께서 모세에게 명하시기를 백성을 모으라 내가 그들에게 물을 주리라 하시던 우물이라
17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:17 Then Israel gave voice to this song: Come up, O water-spring, let us make a song to it:17 그 때에 이스라엘이 노래하여 가로되 우물 물아 솟아나라 너희는 그것을 노래하라
18 The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:18 The fountain made by the chiefs, made deep by the great ones of the people, with the law-givers' rod, and with their sticks. Then from the waste land they went on to Mattanah:18 이 우물은 족장들이 팠고 백성의 귀인들이 홀과 지팡이로 판 것이로다 하였더라 광야에서 맛다나에 이르렀고
19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:19 맛다나에서 나할리엘에 이르렀고 나할리엘에서 바못에 이르렀고
20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.20 And from Bamoth to the valley in the open country of Moab, and to the top of Pisgah looking over Jeshimon.20 바못에서 모압 들에 있는 골짜기에 이르러 광야가 내려다 보이는 비스가산 꼭대기에 이르렀더라
21 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,21 And Israel sent men to Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,21 이스라엘이 아모리 왕 시혼에게 사자를 보내어 가로되
22 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past thy borders.22 Let me go through your land: we will not go into field or vine-garden, or take the water of the springs; we will go by the highway till we have gone past the limits of your land.22 우리로 당신의 땅을 통과하게 하소서 우리가 밭에든지 포도원에든지 들어가지 아니하며 우물 물도 공히 마시지 아니하고 우리가 당신의 지경에서 다 나가기까지 왕의 대로로만 통행하리이다 하나
23 And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.23 And Sihon would not let Israel go through his land; but got all his people together and went out against Israel into the waste land, as far as Jahaz, to make war on Israel.23 시혼이 자기 지경으로 이스라엘의 통과함을 용납하지 아니하고 그 백성을 다 모아 이스라엘을 치러 광야로 나와서 야하스에 이르러 이스라엘을 치므로
24 And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.24 But Israel overcame him, and took all his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the country of the children of Ammon, for the country of the children of Ammon was strongly armed.24 이스라엘이 칼날로 그들을 쳐서 파하고 그 땅을 아르논부터 얍복까지 점령하여 암몬 자손에게까지 미치니 암몬 자손의 경계는 견고하더라
25 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.25 And Israel took all their towns, living in Heshbon and all the towns and small places of the Amorites.25 이스라엘이 이같이 그 모든 성읍을 취하고 그 아모리인의 모든 성읍 헤스본과 그 모든 촌락에 거하였으니
26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.26 For Heshbon was the town of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had made war against an earlier king of Moab and taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon.26 헤스본은 아모리인의 왕 시혼의 도성이라 시혼이 모압 전왕을 치고 그 모든 땅을 아르논까지 그 손에서 탈취하였었더라
27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:27 So the makers of wise sayings say, Come to Heshbon, building up the town of Sihon and making it strong:27 그러므로 시인이 읊어 가로되 너희는 헤스본으로 올찌어다 시혼의 성을 세워 견고히 할찌어다
28 For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.28 For a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the town of Sihon: for the destruction of Ar in Moab, and the lords of the high places of the Arnon.28 헤스본에서 불이 나오며 시혼의 성에서 화염이 나와서 모압의 아르를 삼키며 아르논 높은 곳의 주인을 멸하였도다
29 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.29 Sorrow is yours, O Moab! Destruction is your fate, O people of Chemosh: his sons have gone in flight, and his daughters are prisoners, in the hands of Sihon, king of the Amorites.29 모압아 네가 화를 당하였도다 그모스의 백성아 네가 멸망하였도다 그가 그 아들들로 도망케 하였고 그 딸들로 아모리인의 왕 시혼의 포로가 되게 하였도다
30 We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.30 They are wounded with our arrows; destruction has come on Heshbon, even to Dibon; and we have made the land waste as far as Nophah, stretching out to Medeba.30 우리가 그들을 쏘아서 헤스본을 디본까지 멸하였고 메드바에 가까운 노바까지 황폐케 하였도다 하였더라
31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.31 So Israel put up their tents in the land of the Amorites.31 이스라엘이 아모리인의 땅에 거하였더니
32 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.32 And Moses sent men secretly to Jazer, and they took its towns, driving out the Amorites who were living there.32 모세가 또 보내어 야셀을 정탐케 하고 그 촌락들을 취하고 그곳에 있던 아모리인을 몰아 내었더라
33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.33 Then turning they went up by the way of Bashan; and Og, king of Bashan, went out against them with all his people, to the fight at Edrei.33 돌이켜 바산 길로 올라가매 바산 왕 옥이 그 백성을 다 거느리고 나와서 그들을 맞아 에드레이에서 싸우려 하는지라
34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.34 And the Lord said to Moses, Have no fear of him: for I have given him up into your hands, with all his people and his land; do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, at Heshbon.34 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 그를 두려워 말라 내가 그와 그 백성과 그 땅을 네 손에 붙였나니 너는 헤스본에 거하던 아모리인의 왕 시혼에게 행한것 같이 그에게도 행할찌니라
35 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.35 So they overcame him and his sons and his people, driving them all out: and they took his land for their heritage.35 이에 그와 그 아들들과 그 백성을 다 쳐서 한 사람도 남기지 아니하고 그 땅을 점령하였더라
