8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.	8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lights are going out.	8 미련한 자들이 슬기 있는 자들에게 이르되 우리 등불이 꺼져가니 너희 기름을 좀 나눠 달라 하거늘

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.	9 But the wise made answer, saying, There may not be enough for us and you; it would be better for you to go to the traders and get oil for yourselves.	9 슬기 있는 자들이 대답하여 가로되 우리와 너희의 쓰기에 다 부족할까 하노니 차라리 파는 자들에게 가서 너희 쓸 것을 사라 하니

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.	10 And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut.	10 저희가 사러 간 동안에 신랑이 오므로 예비하였던 자들은 함께 혼인 잔치에 들어가고 문은 닫힌지라

11 Afterward ㆍ came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.	11 After that the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, let us in.	11 그 후에 남은 처녀들이 와서 가로되 주여 주여 우리에게 열어 주소서

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.	12 But he made answer and said, Truly I say to you, I have no knowledge of you.	12 대답하여 가로되 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 내가 너희를 알지 못하노라 하였느니라

13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.	13 Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour.	13 그런즉 깨어 있으라 너희는 그 날과 그 시를 알지 못하느니라

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.	14 For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property.	14 또 어떤 사람이 타국에 갈제 그 종들을 불러 자기 소유를 맡김과 같으니

15 And unto one he gave five talents ㆍ, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.	15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey.	15 각각 그 재능대로 하나에게는 금 다섯 달란트를, 하나에게는 두 달란트를, 하나에게는 한 달란트를 주고 떠났더니

16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.	16 Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more.	16 다섯 달란트 받은 자는 바로 가서 그것으로 장사하여 또 다섯 달란트를 남기고

17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.	17 In the same way he who had been given the two got two more.	17 두 달란트 받은 자도 그같이 하여 또 두 달란트를 남겼으되

18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.	18 But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord's money in a secret place.	18 한 달란트 받은 자는 가서 땅을 파고 그 주인의 돈을 감추어 두었더니

19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth ㆍ with them.	19 Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them.	19 오랜 후에 그 종들의 주인이 돌아와 저희와 회계할쌔

20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.	20 And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more.	20 다섯 달란트 받았던 자는 다섯 달란트를 더 가지고 와서 가로되 주여 내게 다섯 달란트를 주셨는데 보소서 내가 또 다섯 달란트를 남겼나이다

21 ㆍ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.	21 His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.	21 그 주인이 이르되 잘 하였도다 착하고 충성된 종아 네가 작은 일에 충성하였으매 내가 많은 것으로 네게 맡기리니 네 주인의 즐거움에 참예할찌어다 하고

22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.	22 And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more.	22 두 달란트 받았던 자도 와서 가로되 주여 내게 두 달란트를 주셨는데 보소서 내가 또 두 달란트를 남겼나이다

24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strowed:	24 And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work:	24 한 달란트 받았던 자도 와서 가로되 주여 당신은 굳은 사람이라 심지 않은데서 거두고 헤치지 않은데서 모으는 줄을 내가 알았으므로

25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.	25 And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours.	25 두려워하여 나가서 당신의 달란트를 땅에 감추어 두었었나이다 보소서 당신의 것을 받으셨나이다

26 ㆍ His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strowed:	26 But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work,	26 그 주인이 대답하여 가로되 악하고 게으른 종아 나는 심지 않은데서 거두고 헤치지 않은데서 모으는 줄로 네가 알았느냐

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.	27 Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest?	27 그러면 네가 마땅히 내 돈을 취리하는 자들에게나 두었다가 나로 돌아 와서 내 본전과 변리를 받게 할 것이니라 하고

28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.	28 Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents.	28 그에게서 그 한 달란트를 빼앗아 열 달란트 가진 자에게 주어라

29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away ㆍ even that which he hath.	29 For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.	29 무릇 있는 자는 받아 풍족하게 되고 없는 자는 그 있는 것까지 빼앗기리라

30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.	30 And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.	30 이 무익한 종을 바깥 어두운데로 내어쫓으라 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갊이 있으리라 하니라

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:	31 But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then will he be seated in his glory:	31 인자가 자기 영광으로 모든 천사와 함께 올때에 자기 영광의 보좌에 앉으리니

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:	32 And before him all the nations will come together; and they will be parted one from another, as the sheep are parted from the goats by the keeper.	32 모든 민족을 그 앞에 모으고 각각 분별하기를 목자가 양과 염소를 분별하는것 같이 하여

33 And he shall set ㆍ the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.	33 And he will put the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.	33 양은 그 오른편에, 염소는 왼편에 두리라

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:	34 Then will the King say to those on his right, Come, you who have the blessing of my Father, into the kingdom made ready for you before the world was:	34 그 때에 임금이 그 오른편에 있는 자들에게 이르시되 내 아버지께 복 받을 자들이여 나아와 창세로부터 너희를 위하여 예비된 나라를 상속하라

35 For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:	35 For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in;	35 내가 주릴 때에 너희가 먹을 것을 주었고 목마를 때에 마시게 하였고 나그네 되었을 때에 영접하였고

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.	36 I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me.	36 벗었을 때에 옷을 입혔고 병들었을 때에 돌아보았고 옥에 갇혔을 때에 와서 보았느니라

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?	37 Then will the upright make answer to him, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food, and give it to you? or in need of drink, and give it to you?	37 이에 의인들이 대답하여 가로되 주여 우리가 어느 때에 주의 주리신 것을 보고 공궤하였으며 목마르신 것을 보고 마시게 하였나이까

38 ㆍ When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?	38 And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you?	38 어느 때에 나그네 되신 것을 보고 영접하였으며 벗으신 것을 보고 옷 입혔나이까

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?	39 And when did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you?	39 어느 때에 병드신 것이나 옥에 갇히신 것을 보고 가서 뵈었나이까 하리니

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.	40 And the King will make answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.	40 임금이 대답하여 가라사대 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 여기 내 형제 중에 지극히 작은 자 하나에게 한 것이 곧 내게 한 것이니라 하시고

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:	41 Then will he say to those on the left, Go from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire which is ready for the Evil One and his angels:	41 또 왼편에 있는 자들에게 이르시되 저주를 받은 자들아 나를 떠나 마귀와 그 사자들을 위하여 예비된 영영한 불에 들어가라

42 For I was an hungered, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:	42 For I was in need of food, and you gave it not to me; I was in need of drink, and you gave it not to me:	42 내가 주릴 때에 너희가 먹을 것을 주지 아니하였고 목마를 때에 마시게 하지 아니하였고

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?	44 Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you?	44 저희도 대답하여 가로되 주여 우리가 어느 때에 주의 주리신 것이나 목마르신 것이나 나그네 되신 것이나 벗으신 것이나 병드신 것이나 옥에 갇히신 것을 보고 공양치 아니하더이까

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.	45 Then will he make answer to them, saying, Truly I say to you, Because you did it not to the least of these, you did it not to me.	45 이에 임금이 대답하여 가라사대 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 이 지극히 작은 자 하나에게 하지 아니한 것이 곧 내게 하지 아니한 것이니라 하시리니

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.	46 And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the upright into eternal life.	46 저희는 영벌에, 의인들은 영생에 들어가리라 하시니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
