4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.	4 And he said to them, Is it right to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil? to give life or to put to death? But they said nothing.	4 저희에게 이르시되 안식일에 선을 행하는 것과 악을 행하는 것, 생명을 구하는 것과 죽이는 것, 어느 것이 옳으냐 하시니 저희가 잠잠하거늘

5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.	5 And looking round on them he was angry, being sad because of their hard hearts; and he said to the man, Put out your hand. And he put it out, and his hand was made well.	5 저희 마음의 완악함을 근심하사 노하심으로 저희를 둘러 보시고 그 사람에게 이르시되 네 손을 내밀라 하시니 그가 내밀매 그 손이 회복되었더라

6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.	6 And the Pharisees went out, and straight away made designs with the Herodians about how they might put him to death.	6 바리새인들이 나가서 곧 헤롯당과 함께 어떻게 하여 예수를 죽일꼬 의논하니라

7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,	7 And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea, and a great number from Galilee came after him: and from Judaea,	7 예수께서 제자들과 함께 바다로 물러가시니 갈릴리에서 큰 무리가 좇으며

8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.	8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and the other side of Jordan, and the country about Tyre and Sidon, a great number, hearing what great things he did, came to him.	8 유대와 예루살렘과 이두매와 요단강 건너편과 또 두로와 시돈 근처에서 허다한 무리가 그의 하신 큰 일을 듣고 나아오는지라

9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.	9 And he made a request to his disciples to have a little boat ready for him, so that he might not be crushed by the people;	9 예수께서 무리의 에워싸 미는 것을 면키 위하여 작은 배를 등대하도록 제자들에게 명하셨으니

10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.	10 For he had made such a great number well that all those who were diseased were falling down before him for the purpose of touching him.	10 이는 많은 사람을 고치셨으므로 병에 고생하는 자들이 예수를 만지고자 하여 핍근히 함이더라

11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying ㆍ, Thou art the Son of God.	11 And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, went down before him, crying out, and saying, You are the Son of God.	11 더러운 귀신들도 어느 때든지 예수를 보면 그 앞에 엎드려 부르짖어 가로되 당신은 하나님의 아들이니이다 하니

12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.	12 And he gave them special orders not to say who he was.	12 예수께서 자기를 나타내지 말라고 많이 경계하시니라

13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.	13 And he went up into the mountain, and sent for those whom it was his pleasure to have with him: and they went to him.	13 또 산에 오르사 자기의 원하는 자들을 부르시니 나아온지라

14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,	14 And he took twelve to be with him, so that he might send them out as preachers,	14 이에 열 둘을 세우셨으니 이는 자기와 함께 있게 하시고 또 보내사 전도도 하며

15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:	15 And give them the power of driving out evil spirits:	15 귀신을 내어쫓는 권세도 있게 하려 하심이러라

16 And Simon he surnamed ㆍ Peter;	16 To Simon he gave the second name of Peter;	16 이 열 둘을 세우셨으니 시몬에게는 베드로란 이름을 더하셨고

17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed ㆍ them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:	17 And to James, the son of Zebedee, and John, the brother of James, he gave the second name of Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder:	17 또 세베대의 아들 야고보와 야고보의 형제 요한이니 이 둘에게는 보아너게 곧 우뢰의 아들이란 이름을 더하셨으며

18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,	18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot;	18 또 안드레와 빌립과 바돌로매와 마태와 도마와 알패오의 아들 야고보와 및 다대오와 가나안인 시몬이며

19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.	19 And Judas Iscariot, who was false to him.	19 또 가룟 유다니 이는 예수를 판 자러라

20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.	20 And he went into a house. And the people came together again, so that they were not even able to take bread.	20 집에 들어가시니 무리가 다시 모이므로 식사할 겨를도 없는지라

21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said ㆍ, He is beside himself.	21 And when his friends had news of it, they went out to get him, saying, He is off his head.	21 예수의 친속들이 듣고 붙들러 나오니 이는 그가 미쳤다 함일러라

22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said ㆍ, He hath Beelzebub ㆍ, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.	22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem, said, He has Beelzebub, and, By the ruler of evil spirits he sends evil spirits out of men.	22 예루살렘에서 내려온 서기관들은 저가 바알세불을 지폈다 하며 또 귀신의 왕을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아낸다 하니

23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?	23 And turning to them, he said to them in the form of a story, How is it possible for Satan to put out Satan?	23 예수께서 저희를 불러다가 비유로 말씀하시되 사단이 어찌 사단을 쫓아낼 수 있느냐

24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot ㆍ stand.	24 If there is division in a kingdom, that kingdom will come to destruction;	24 또 만일 나라가 스스로 분쟁하면 그 나라가 설 수 없고

25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot ㆍ stand.	25 And if there is division in a house, that house will come to destruction;	25 만일 집이 스스로 분쟁하면 그 집이 설 수 없고

26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot ㆍ stand, but hath an end.	26 And if Satan is at war with himself, and there is division in him, he will not keep his place but will come to an end.	26 만일 사단이 자기를 거스려 일어나 분쟁하면 설 수 없고 이에 망하느니라

27 No man can ㆍ enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.	27 But no one is able to go into the house of the strong man and take his goods, without first putting cords round the strong man, and then he will take his goods.	27 사람이 먼저 강한 자를 결박지 않고는 그 강한 자의 집에 들어가 세간을 늑탈치 못하리니 결박한 후에야 그 집을 늑탈하리라

28 Verily I say unto you ㆍ, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:	28 Truly, I say to you, The sons of men will have forgiveness for all their sins and for all the evil words they say:	28 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 사람의 모든 죄와 무릇 훼방하는 훼방은 사하심을 얻되

29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never ㆍ ㆍ forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:	29 But whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but the evil he has done will be with him for ever:	29 누구든지 성령을 훼방하는 자는 사하심을 영원히 얻지 못하고 영원한 죄에 처하느니라 하시니

30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.	30 Because they said, He has an unclean spirit.	30 이는 저희가 말하기를 더러운 귀신이 들렸다 함이러라

31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.	31 And his mother and brothers came and were outside, and sent for him, requesting to see him.	31 때에 예수의 모친과 동생들이 와서 밖에 서서 사람을 보내어 예수를 부르니

32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.	32 And a great number were seated round him; and they said to him, See, your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you.	32 무리가 예수를 둘러 앉았다가 여짜오되 보소서 당신의 모친과 동생들과 누이들이 밖에서 찾나이다

33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?	33 And he said in answer, Who are my mother and my brothers?	33 대답하시되 누가 내 모친이며 동생들이냐 하시고

34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!	34 And looking round at those who were seated about him, he said, See, my mother and my brothers!	34 둘러 앉은 자들을 둘러 보시며 가라사대 내 모친과 내 동생들을 보라

35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.	35 Whoever does God's pleasure, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.	35 누구든지 하나님의 뜻대로 하는 자는 내 형제요 자매요 모친이니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
