4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.	4 And when they were unable to get near him because of all the people, they got the roof uncovered where he was: and when it was broken up, they let down the bed on which the man was.	4 무리를 인하여 예수께 데려갈 수 없으므로 그 계신 곳의 지붕을 뜯어 구멍을 내고 중풍병자의 누운 상을 달아내리니

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.	5 And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to him, Son, you have forgiveness for your sins.	5 예수께서 저희의 믿음을 보시고 중풍병자에게 이르시되 소자야 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라 하시니

7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?	7 Why does this man say such things? he has no respect for God: from whom does forgiveness come but from God only?	7 이 사람이 어찌 이렇게 말하는가 참람하도다 오직 하나님 한 분 외에는 누가 능히 죄를 사하겠느냐

8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?	8 And Jesus, having knowledge in his spirit of their thoughts, said to them, Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?	8 저희가 속으로 이렇게 의논하는 줄을 예수께서 곧 중심에 아시고 이르시되 어찌하여 이것을 마음에 의논하느냐

9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?	9 Which is the simpler, to say to a man who is ill, You have forgiveness for your sins, or, Get up, take up your bed, and go?	9 중풍병자에게 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라 하는 말과 일어나 네 상을 가지고 걸어가라 하는 말이 어느 것이 쉽겠느냐

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)	10 But so that you may see that the Son of man has authority for the forgiveness of sins on earth, (he said to the man,)	10 그러나 인자가 땅에서 죄를 사하는 권세가 있는 줄을 너희로 알게 하려하노라 하시고 중풍병자에게 말씀하시되

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.	11 I say to you, Get up, take up your bed, and go to your house.	11 내가 네게 이르노니 일어나 네 상을 가지고 집으로 가라 하시니

12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying ㆍ, We never saw it on this fashion.	12 And he got up, and straight away took up the bed and went out before them all, so that they were all full of wonder, and gave glory to God, saying, We have never seen anything like this.	12 그가 일어나 곧 상을 가지고 모든 사람 앞에서 나가거늘 저희가 다 놀라 영광을 하나님께 돌리며 가로되 우리가 이런 일을 도무지 보지 못하였다 하더라

13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.	13 And he went out again by the seaside; and all the people came to him, and he gave them teaching.	13 예수께서 다시 바닷가에 나가시매 무리가 다 나아왔거늘 예수께서 저희를 가르치시니라

14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.	14 And when he went by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, seated at the place where taxes were taken, and he said to him, Come with me. And he got up, and went with him.	14 또 지나가시다가 알패오의 아들 레위가 세관에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 저에게 이르시되 나를 좇으라 하시니 일어나 좇으니라

15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.	15 And it came about that he was seated at meat in his house, and a number of tax-farmers and sinners were at table with Jesus and his disciples: for there were a great number of them, and they came after him.	15 그의 집에 앉아 잡수실 때에 많은 세리와 죄인들이 예수와 그 제자들과 함께 앉았으니 이는 저희가 많이 있어서 예수를 좇음이러라

16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?	16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was taking food with the tax-farmers and sinners, said to his disciples, Why does he take food and drink with such men?	16 바리새인의 서기관들이 예수께서 죄인과 세리들과 함께 잡수시는 것을 보고 그 제자들에게 이르되 어찌하여 세리와 죄인들과 함께 먹는가

17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.	17 And Jesus, hearing it, said to them, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill: I have come not to get the upright but sinners.	17 예수께서 들으시고 저희에게 이르시되 건강한 자에게는 의원이 쓸데 없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸데 있느니라 내가 의인을 부르러 온것이 아니요 죄인을 부르러 왔노라 하시니라

18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do ㆍ the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?	18 And John's disciples and the Pharisees were taking no food: and they came and said to him, Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees go without food, but your disciples do not?	18 요한의 제자들과 바리새인들이 금식하고 있는지라 혹이 예수께 와서 말하되 요한의 제자들과 바리새인의 제자들은 금식하는데 어찌하여 당신의 제자들은 금식하지 아니하나이까

19 And Jesus said unto them ㆍ, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot ㆍ fast.	19 And Jesus said to them, Will the friends of a newly-married man go without food while he is with them? as long as they have him with them they will not go without food.	19 예수께서 저희에게 이르시되 혼인집 손님들이 신랑과 함께 있을 때에 금식할 수 있느냐 신랑과 함께 있을 동안에는 금식할 수 없나니

20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.	20 But the days will come when the husband will be taken away from them, and then they will go without food.	20 그러나 신랑을 빼앗길 날이 이르리니 그 날에는 금식할 것이니라

21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.	21 No man puts a bit of new cloth on an old coat: or the new, by pulling away from the old, makes a worse hole.	21 생베 조각을 낡은 옷에 붙이는 자가 없나니 만일 그렇게 하면 기운 새것이 낡은 그것을 당기어 해어짐이 더하게 되느니라

22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.	22 And no man puts new wine into old wine-skins: or the skins will be burst by the wine, and the wine and the skins will be wasted: but new wine has to be put into new wine-skins.	22 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 넣는 자가 없나니 만일 그렇게 하면 새 포도주가 부대를 터뜨려 포도주와 부대를 버리게 되리라 오직 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣느니라 하시니라

23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went ㆍ, to pluck the ears of corn.	23 And it came about that on the Sabbath day he was going through the grain-fields; and while they were walking, his disciples took the heads of grain.	23 안식일에 예수께서 밀밭 사이로 지나가실쌔 그 제자들이 길을 열며 이삭을 자르니

24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?	24 And the Pharisees said to him, Why are they doing what it is not right to do on the Sabbath?	24 바리새인들이 예수께 말하되 보시오 저희가 어찌하여 안식일에 하지 못할 일을 하나이까

25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?	25 And he said to them, Have you no knowledge of what David did, when he had need and was without food, he, and those who were with him?	25 예수께서 가라사대 다윗이 자기와 및 함께한 자들이 핍절되어 시장할 때에 한 일을 읽지 못하였느냐

26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the showbread ㆍ, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?	26 How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and took for food the holy bread, which only the priests may take, and gave it to those who were with him?	26 그가 아비아달 대제사장 때에 하나님의 전에 들어가서 제사장 외에는 먹지 못하는 진설병을 먹고 함께한 자들에게도 주지 아니하였느냐

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:	27 And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath;	27 또 가라사대 안식일은 사람을 위하여 있는 것이요 사람이 안식일을 위하여 있는 것이 아니니

28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.	28 So that the Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.	28 이러므로 인자는 안식일에도 주인이니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
