4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.	4 And they went away and saw a young ass by the door outside in the open street; and they were getting him loose.	4 제자들이 가서 본즉 나귀 새끼가 문앞 거리에 매여 있는지라 그것을 푸니

5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?	5 And some of those who were there said to them, What are you doing, taking the ass?	5 거기 섰는 사람 중 어떤이들이 가로되 나귀 새끼를 풀어 무엇하려느냐 하매

6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.	6 And they said to them the words which Jesus had said; and they let them go.	6 제자들이 예수의 이르신대로 말한대 이에 허락하는지라

7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.	7 And they took the young ass to Jesus, and put their clothing on him, and he got on his back.	7 나귀 새끼를 예수께로 끌고 와서 자기들의 겉옷을 그 위에 걸쳐두매 예수께서 타시니

8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strowed them in the way.	8 And a great number put down their clothing in the way; and others put down branches which they had taken from the fields.	8 많은 사람은 자기 겉옷과 다른이들은 밭에서 벤 나무가지를 길에 펴며

9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:	9 And those who went in front, and those who came after, were crying, Glory: A blessing on him who comes in the name of the Lord:	9 앞에서 가고 뒤에서 따르는 자들이 소리지르되 호산나 찬송하리로다 주의 이름으로 오시는이여

10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.	10 A blessing on the coming kingdom of our father David: Glory in the highest.	10 찬송하리로다 오는 우리 조상 다윗의 나라여 가장 높은 곳에서 호산나 하더라

11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.	11 And he went into Jerusalem into the Temple; and after looking round about on all things, it being now evening, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.	11 예수께서 예루살렘에 이르러 성전에 들어가사 모든 것을 둘러 보시고 때가 이미 저물매 열 두 제자를 데리시고 베다니에 나가시다

12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:	12 And on the day after, when they had come out from Bethany, he was in need of food.	12 이튿날 저희가 베다니에서 나왔을 때에 예수께서 시장하신지라

13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon ㆍ: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.	13 And seeing a fig-tree in the distance with leaves, he went to see if by chance it had anything on it: and when he came to it, he saw nothing but leaves, for it was not the time for the fruit.	13 멀리서 잎사귀 있는 한 무화과나무를 보시고 혹 그 나무에 무엇이 있을까 하여 가셨더니 가서 보신즉 잎사귀 외에 아무 것도 없더라 이는 무화과의 때가 아님이라

14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.	14 And he said to it, Let no man take fruit from you for ever. And his disciples took note of his words.	14 예수께서 나무에게 일러 가라사대 이제부터 영원토록 사람이 네게서 열매를 따 먹지 못하리라 하시니 제자들이 이를 듣더라

15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;	15 And they came to Jerusalem; and he went into the Temple, and sent out those who were trading there, overturning the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who were offering doves for money;	15 저희가 예루살렘에 들어가니라 예수께서 성전에 들어가사 성전 안에서 매매하는 자들을 내어쫓으시며 돈 바꾸는 자들의 상과 비둘기 파는 자들의 의자를 둘러 엎으시며

16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.	16 And he would not let any man take a vessel through the Temple.	16 아무나 기구를 가지고 성전 안으로 지나다님을 허치 아니하시고

17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written ㆍ, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.	17 And he gave them teaching, and said to them, Is it not in the Writings, My house is to be named a house of prayer for all the nations? but you have made it a hole of thieves.	17 이에 가르쳐 이르시되 기록된바 내 집은 만민의 기도하는 집이라 칭함을 받으리라고 하지 아니하였느냐 너희는 강도의 굴혈을 만들었도다 하시매

18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.	18 And it came to the ears of the chief priests and scribes, and they took thought how they might put him to death; being in fear of him, because all the people were full of wonder at his teaching.	18 대제사장들과 서기관들이 듣고 예수를 어떻게 멸할까 하고 꾀하니 이는 무리가 다 그의 교훈을 기이히 여기므로 그를 두려워함일러라

19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.	19 And every evening he went out of the town.	19 매양 저물매 저희가 성밖으로 나가더라

20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.	20 And when they were going by in the morning, they saw the fig-tree dead from the roots.	20 저희가 아침에 지나갈 때에 무화과나무가 뿌리로부터 마른 것을 보고

21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.	21 And Peter, having a memory of it, said to him, Master, see, the tree which was cursed by you is dead.	21 베드로가 생각이 나서 여짜오되 랍비여 보소서 저주하신 무화과나무가 말랐나이다

22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.	22 And Jesus, answering, said to them, Have God's faith.	22 예수께서 대답하여 저희에게 이르시되 하나님을 믿으라

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.	23 Truly I say to you, Whoever says to this mountain, Be taken up and be put into the sea; and has no doubt in his heart, but has faith that what he says will come about, he will have his desire.	23 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 누구든지 이 산더러 들리어 바다에 던지우라 하며 그 말하는 것이 이룰줄 믿고 마음에 의심치 아니하면 그대로 되리라

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.	24 For this reason I say to you, Whatever you make a request for in prayer, have faith that it has been given to you, and you will have it.	24 그러므로 내가 너희에게 말하노니 무엇이든지 기도하고 구하는 것은 받은 줄로 믿으라 그리하면 너희에게 그대로 되리라

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.	25 And whenever you make a prayer, let there be forgiveness in your hearts, if you have anything against anyone; so that you may have forgiveness for your sins from your Father who is in heaven.	25 서서 기도할 때에 아무에게나 혐의가 있거든 용서하라 그리하여야 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지도 너희 허물을 사하여 주시리라 하셨더라

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.	26 []	26 (없음)

27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,	27 And they came again to Jerusalem: and while he was walking in the Temple, there came to him the chief priests and the scribes and those in authority:	27 저희가 다시 예루살렘에 들어가니라 예수께서 성전에서 걸어다니실 때에 대제사장들과 서기관들과 장로들이 나아와

28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?	28 And they said to him, By what authority do you do these things? or who gave you authority to do these things?	28 가로되 무슨 권세로 이런 일을 하느뇨 누가 이런 일 할 이 권세를 주었느뇨

29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.	29 And Jesus said to them, I will put to you one question; give me an answer, and I will say by what authority I do these things.	29 예수께서 가라사대 나도 한 말을 너희에게 물으리니 대답하라 그리하면 나도 무슨 권세로 이런 일을 하는지 이르리라

30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.	30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven or from men? give me an answer.	30 요한의 세례가 하늘로서냐 사람에게로서냐 내게 대답하라

31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?	31 And they gave thought to it among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not have faith in him?	31 저희가 서로 의논하여 가로되 만일 하늘로서라 하면 어찌하여 저를 믿지 아니하였느냐 할것이니

32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.	32 But if we say, From men--they were in fear of the people, because all took John to be truly a prophet.	32 그러면 사람에게로서라 할까 하였으나 모든 사람이 요한을 참 선지자로 여기므로 저희가 백성을 무서워하는지라

33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.	33 And they said in answer to Jesus, We have no idea. And Jesus said to them, And I will not say to you by what authority I do these things.	33 이에 예수께 대답하여 가로되 우리가 알지 못하노라 하니 예수께서 가라사대 나도 무슨 권세로 이런 일을 하는지 너희에게 이르지 아니하리라 하시니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
