8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. 9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?	9 And his disciples put questions to him about the point of the story.	9 제자들이 이 비유의 뜻을 물으니

10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.	10 And he said, To you is given knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to the others, they are given in stories, so that seeing, they may not see, and though they give hearing, the sense will not be clear to them.	10 가라사대 하나님 나라의 비밀을 아는 것이 너희에게는 허락되었으나 다른 사람에게는 비유로 하나니 이는 저희로 보아도 보지 못하고 들어도 깨닫지 못하게 하려 함이니라

11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.	11 Now this is the point of the story: The seed is the word of God.	11 이 비유는 이러하니라 씨는 하나님의 말씀이요

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.	12 Those by the side of the road are those who have given hearing; then the Evil One comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not have faith and get salvation.	12 길 가에 있다는 것은 말씀을 들은 자니 이에 마귀가 와서 그들로 믿어 구원을 얻지 못하게 하려고 말씀을 그 마음에서 빼앗는 것이요

13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.	13 And those on the rock are those who with joy give hearing to the word; but having no root, they have faith for a time, and when the test comes they give up.	13 바위 위에 있다는 것은 말씀을 들을 때에 기쁨으로 받으나 뿌리가 없어 잠간 믿다가 시험을 받을 때에 배반하는 자요

14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.	14 And those which went among thorns are those who have given hearing, and go on their way, but they are overcome by cares and wealth and the pleasures of life, and they give no fruit.	14 가시떨기에 떨어졌다는 것은 말씀을 들은 자니 지내는 중 이생의 염려와 재리와 일락에 기운이 막혀 온전히 결실치 못하는 자요

15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.	15 And those in the good earth are those who, having given ear to the word, keep it with a good and true heart, and in quiet strength give fruit.	15 좋은 땅에 있다는 것은 착하고 좋은 마음으로 말씀을 듣고 지키어 인내로 결실하는 자니라

16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.	16 No man, when the light is lighted, puts a cover over it, or puts it under a bed, but he puts it on its table, so that those who come in may see the light.	16 누구든지 등불을 켜서 그릇으로 덮거나 평상 아래 두지 아니하고 등경 위에 두나니 이는 들어가는 자들로 그 빛을 보게 하려 함이라

17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.	17 For nothing is put out of view which will not be made clear, and nothing is secret of which the knowledge will not come to light.	17 숨은 것이 장차 드러나지 아니할 것이 없고 감추인 것이 장차 알려지고 나타나지 않을 것이 없느니라

18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever ㆍ hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever ㆍ hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.	18 So take care how you give hearing, for to him who has will be given, and from him who has not will be taken even what he seems to have.	18 그러므로 너희가 어떻게 듣는가 스스로 삼가라 누구든지 있는 자는 받겠고 없는 자는 그 있는 줄로 아는 것까지 빼앗기리라 하시니라

19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.	19 And his mother and his brothers came to him, and they were not able to get near him because of the great number of people.	19 예수의 모친과 그 동생들이 왔으나 무리를 인하여 가까이 하지 못하니

20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.	20 And someone said to him, Your mother and your brothers are outside desiring to see you.	20 혹이 고하되 당신의 모친과 동생들이 당신을 보려고 밖에 섰나이다

21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.	21 But he said to them in answer, My mother and my brothers are those who have knowledge of the word of God and do it.	21 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 내 모친과 내 동생들은 곧 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 행하는 이 사람들이라 하시니라

22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.	22 Now it came about on one of those days that he got into a boat with his disciples; and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the water: and they put out the boat.	22 하루는 제자들과 함께 배에 오르사 저희에게 이르시되 호수 저편으로 건너가자 하시매 이에 떠나

23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.	23 But while they were sailing he went to sleep: and a storm of wind came down on the sea, and the boat became full of water and they were in danger.	23 행선할 때에 예수께서 잠이 드셨더니 마침 광풍이 호수로 내리치매 배에 물이 가득하게 되어 위태한지라

24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.	24 Then they came to him and, awaking him out of his sleep, said, Master, Master, destruction is near. And he, when he was awake, gave orders to the wind and the rolling waves, and the storm came to an end, and all was calm.	24 제자들이 나아와 깨워 가로되 주여 주여 우리가 죽겠나이다 한대 예수께서 잠을 깨사 바람과 물결을 꾸짖으시니 이에 그쳐 잔잔하여지더라

25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another ㆍ, What manner of man ㆍ is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.	25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And fear and wonder overcame them, and they said to one another, Who then is this, who gives orders even to the winds and the water and they do what he says?	25 제자들에게 이르시되 너희 믿음이 어디 있느냐 하시니 저희가 두려워하고 기이히 여겨 서로 말하되 저가 뉘기에 바람과 물을 명하매 순종하는고 하더라

26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.	26 And they came to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.	26 갈릴리 맞은편 거라사인의 땅에 이르러

27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long ㆍ time, and ware no clothes, neither ㆍ abode in any house, but in the tombs.	27 And when he had come to the land, there came to him a certain man from the town who had evil spirits; and for a long time he had had no clothing on, and was not living in a house but in the place of the dead.	27 육지에 내리시매 그 도시 사람으로서 귀신들린 자 하나가 예수를 만나니 이 사람은 오래 옷을 입지 아니하며 집에 거하지도 아니하고 무덤 사이에 거하는 자라

28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.	28 And when he saw Jesus, he gave a loud cry and went down on the earth before him and in a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Do not be cruel to me.	28 예수를 보고 부르짖으며 그 앞에 엎드리어 큰 소리로 불러 가로되 지극히 높으신 하나님의 아들 예수여 나와 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까 당신께 구하노니 나를 괴롭게 마옵소서 하니

29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)	29 For he gave an order to the evil spirit to come out of the man. For frequently it would take a grip of him: and he was kept under control, and prisoned with chains; but parting the chains in two, he would be sent by the driving of the evil spirit into waste places.	29 이는 예수께서 이미 더러운 귀신을 명하사 이 사람에게서 나오라 하셨음이라 (귀신이 가끔 이 사람을 붙잡으므로 저가 쇠사슬과 고랑에 매이어 지키웠으되 그 맨 것을 끊고 귀신에게 몰려 광야로 나갔더라)

30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.	30 And Jesus said to him, What is your name? And he said, Legion; for a number of spirits had gone into him.	30 예수께서 네 이름이 무엇이냐 물으신즉 가로되 군대라 하니 이는 많은 귀신이 들렸음이라

31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.	31 And they made a request to him that he would not give them an order to go away into the deep.	31 무저갱으로 들어가라 하지 마시기를 간구하더니

32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.	32 Now there was a great herd of pigs in that place, getting food on the mountain: and the evil spirits made a request to him that he would let them go into the pigs, and he let them.	32 마침 거기 많은 돼지 떼가 산에서 먹고 있는지라 귀신들이 그 돼지에게로 들어가게 허하심을 간구하니 이에 허하신대

33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.	33 And the evil spirits came out of the man and went into the pigs: and the herd went rushing down a sharp slope into the water and came to destruction.	33 귀신들이 그 사람에게서 나와 돼지에게로 들어가니 그 떼가 비탈로 내리달아 호수에 들어가 몰사하거늘

34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.	34 And when the men who took care of them saw what had come about, they went quickly and gave news of it in the town and the country.	34 치던 자들이 그 된 것을 보고 도망하여 성내와 촌에 고하니

35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.	35 And they went out to see what had taken place, and they came to Jesus and saw the man out of whom the evil spirits had gone, seated, clothed and with full use of his senses, at the feet of Jesus; and fear came on them.	35 사람들이 그 된 것을 보러 나와서 예수께 이르러 귀신 나간 사람이 옷을 입고 정신이 온전하여 예수의 발 아래 앉은 것을 보고 두려워하거늘

36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.	36 And those who had seen it gave them an account of how the man who had the evil spirits was made well.	36 귀신 들렸던 자의 어떻게 구원 받은 것을 본 자들이 저희에게 이르매

37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.	37 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes made a request to him to go away from them; for they were in great fear: and he got into a boat and went back.	37 거라사인의 땅 근방 모든 백성이 크게 두려워하여 떠나가시기를 구하더라 예수께서 배에 올라 돌아가실쌔

38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,	38 But the man from whom the evil spirits had gone out had a great desire to be with him, but he sent him away, saying,	38 귀신 나간 사람이 함께 있기를 구하였으나 예수께서 저를 보내시며 가라사대

39 Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.	39 Go back to your house and let them have news of all the great things which God has done for you. And he went away, giving word through all the town of the great things which Jesus had done for him.	39 집으로 돌아가 하나님이 네게 어떻게 큰 일 행하신 것을 일일이 고하라 하시니 저가 가서 예수께서 자기에게 어떻게 큰 일 하신 것을 온 성내에 전파하니라

40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.	40 And when Jesus went back, the people were glad to see him, for they were all waiting for him.	40 예수께서 돌아오시매 무리가 환영하니 이는 다 기다렸음이러라

41 And, behold, there came a man named ㆍ Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:	41 Then there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler in the Synagogue: and he went down at the feet of Jesus, desiring him to come to his house;	41 이에 회당장인 야이로라 하는 사람이 와서 예수의 발 아래 엎드려 자기 집에 오시기를 간구하니

42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she ㆍ lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.	42 For he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was near to death. But while he was on his way, the people were pushing to be near him.	42 이는 자기에게 열 두살 먹은 외딸이 있어 죽어감이러라 예수께서 가실 때에 무리가 옹위하더라

43 And a woman having ㆍ an issue of blood twelve years ㆍ, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,	43 And a woman, who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had given all her money to medical men, and not one of them was able to make her well,	43 이에 열 두 해를 혈루증으로 앓는 중에 아무에게도 고침을 받지 못하던 여자가

44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.	44 Came after him and put her hand on the edge of his robe, and straight away the flowing of her blood was stopped.	44 예수의 뒤로 와서 그 옷가에 손을 대니 혈루증이 즉시 그쳤더라

45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?	45 And Jesus said, Who was touching me? And when they all said, It is not I, Peter and those who were with him said, Master, the people are pushing round you on every side.	45 예수께서 가라사대 내게 손을 댄 자가 누구냐 하시니 다 아니라 할 때에 베드로가 가로되 주여 무리가 옹위하여 미나이다

46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.	46 But Jesus said, Someone was touching me, for I had the feeling that power had gone out from me.	46 예수께서 가라사대 내게 손을 댄 자가 있도다 이는 내게서 능력이 나간 줄 앎이로다 하신대

47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.	47 And when the woman saw that she was not able to keep it secret, she came, shaking with fear, and falling down before him she made clear before all the people the reason for her touching him, and how she was made well straight away.	47 여자가 스스로 숨기지 못할 줄을 알고 떨며 나아와 엎드리어 그 손 댄 연고와 곧 나은 것을 모든 사람 앞에서 고하니

48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.	48 And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.	48 예수께서 이르시되 딸아 네 믿음이 너를 구원하였으니 평안히 가라 하시더라

49 While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him ㆍ, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.	49 While he was still talking, someone came from the house of the ruler of the Synagogue, saying, Your daughter is dead; do not go on troubling the Master.	49 아직 말씀하실 때에 회당장의 집에서 사람이 와서 말하되 당신의 딸이 죽었나이다 선생을 더 괴롭게 마소서 하거늘

50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.	50 But Jesus at these words said to him, Have no fear, only have faith, and she will be made well.	50 예수께서 들으시고 가라사대 두려워 말고 믿기만 하라 그리하면 딸이 구원을 얻으리라 하시고

51 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.	51 And when he came to the house he did not let any man go in with him, but only Peter and John and James, and the father of the girl and her mother.	51 집에 이르러 베드로와 요한과 야고보와 및 아이의 부모 외에는 함께 들어가기를 허하지 아니하시니라

52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.	52 And all the people were weeping and crying for her; but he said, Do not be sad, for she is not dead, but sleeping.	52 모든 사람이 아이를 위하여 울며 통곡하매 예수께서 이르시되 울지 말라 죽은 것이 아니라 잔다 하시니

53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.	53 And they were laughing at him, being certain that she was dead.	53 저희가 그 죽은 것을 아는고로 비웃더라

54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.	54 But he, taking her hand, said to her, My child, get up.	54 예수께서 아이의 손을 잡고 불러 가라사대 아이야 일어나라 하시니

55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.	55 And her spirit came back to her and she got up straight away: and he gave orders that food was to be given to her.	55 그 영이 돌아와 아이가 곧 일어나거늘 예수께서 먹을 것을 주라 명하신대

56 And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.	56 And her father and mother were full of wonder, but he gave orders to them to say nothing about it to anyone.	56 그 부모가 놀라는지라 예수께서 경계하사 이 일을 아무에게도 말하지 말라 하시니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
