4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.	4 And when his talk was ended, he said to Simon, Go out into deep water, and let down your nets for fish.	4 말씀을 마치시고 시몬에게 이르시되 깊은데로 가서 그물을 내려 고기를 잡으라

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.	5 And Simon, answering, said, Master, we were working all night and we took nothing: but at your word I will let down the nets.	5 시몬이 대답하여 가로되 선생이여 우리들이 밤이 마ㅊ도록 수고를 하였으되 얻은 것이 없지마는 말씀에 의지하여 내가 그물을 내리리이다 하고

6 And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.	6 And when they had done this, they got such a great number of fish that it seemed as if their nets would be broken;	6 그리한즉 고기를 에운 것이 심히 많아 그물이 찢어지는지라

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.	7 And they made signs to their friends in the other boat to come to their help. And they came, and the two boats were so full that they were going down.	7 이에 다른 배에 있는 동무를 손짓하여 와서 도와달라 하니 저희가 와서 두 배에 채우매 잠기게 되었더라

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.	8 But Simon, when he saw it, went down at the knees of Jesus and said, Go away from me, O Lord, for I am a sinner.	8 시몬 베드로가 이를 보고 예수의 무릎 아래 엎드려 가로되 주여 나를 떠나소서 나는 죄인이로소이다 하니

9 For he was astonished ㆍ, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:	9 For he was full of wonder and so were all those who were with him, at the number of fish which they had taken;	9 이는 자기와 및 함께 있는 모든 사람이 고기 잡힌 것을 인하여 놀라고

10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.	10 And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were working with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear; from this time forward you will be a fisher of men.	10 세베대의 아들로서 시몬의 동업자인 야고보와 요한도 놀랐음이라 예수께서 시몬에게 일러 가라사대 무서워 말라 이제 후로는 네가 사람을 취하리라 하시니

11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.	11 And when they had got their boats to the land, they gave up everything and went after him.	11 저희가 배들을 육지에 대고 모든 것을 버려두고 예수를 좇으니라

12 And it came to pass, when he was ㆍ in a certain city ㆍ, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.	12 And it came about that while he was in one of the towns, there was a leper there: and when he saw Jesus he went down on his face in prayer to him, saying, Lord, if it is your pleasure, you have power to make me clean.	12 예수께서 한 동네에 계실 때에 온 몸에 문둥병 들린 사람이 있어 예수를 보고 엎드려 구하여 가로되 주여 원하시면 나를 깨끗케 하실 수 있나이다 하니

13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.	13 And he put out his hand to him and said, It is my pleasure; be clean. And straight away his disease went from him.	13 예수께서 손을 내밀어 저에게 대시며 가라사대 내가 원하노니 깨끗함을 받으라 하신대 문둥병이 곧 떠나니라

14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.	14 And he gave him orders: Say nothing to any man, but let the priest see you and give an offering so that you may be made clean, as the law of Moses says, and for a witness to them.	14 예수께서 저를 경계하시되 아무에게도 이르지 말고 가서 제사장에게 네 몸을 보이고 또 네 깨끗케 됨을 인하여 모세의 명한대로 예물을 드려 저희에게 증거하라 하셨더니

15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.	15 But news of him went out all the more, in every direction, and great numbers of people came together to give hearing to his words and to be made well from their diseases.	15 예수의 소문이 더욱 퍼지매 허다한 무리가 말씀도 듣고 자기 병도 나음을 얻고자 하여 모여 오되

16 And he withdrew ㆍ himself into the wilderness, and prayed.	16 But he went away by himself to a waste place for prayer.	16 예수는 물러가사 한적한 곳에서 기도하시니라

17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.	17 And it came about that on one of these days he was teaching; and some Pharisees and teachers of the law were seated there, who had come from every town of Galilee and Judaea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him, to make those who were ill free from their diseases.	17 하루는 가르치실 때에 갈릴리 각 촌과 유대와 예루살렘에서 나온 바리새인과 교법사들이 앉았는데 병을 고치는 주의 능력이 예수와 함께하더라

18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.	18 And some men had with them, on a bed, a man who was ill, without power of moving; and they made attempts to get him in and put him before Jesus.	18 한 중풍병자를 사람들이 침상에 메고 와서 예수 앞에 들여놓고자 하였으나

19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.	19 And because of the mass of people, there was no way to get him in; so they went up on the top of the house and let him down through the roof, on his bed, into the middle in front of Jesus.	19 무리 때문에 메고 들어갈 길을 얻지 못한지라 지붕에 올라가 기와를 벗기고 병자를 침상채 무리 가운데로 예수 앞에 달아 내리니

20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.	20 And seeing their faith he said, Man, you have forgiveness for your sins.	20 예수께서 저희 믿음을 보시고 이르시되 이 사람아 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라 하시니

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?	21 And the scribes and Pharisees were having an argument, saying, Who is this, who has no respect for God? who is able to give forgiveness for sins, but God only?	21 서기관과 바리새인들이 의논하여 가로되 이 참람한 말을 하는 자가 누구뇨 오직 하나님 외에 누가 능히 죄를 사하겠느냐

22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?	22 But Jesus, who had knowledge of their thoughts, said to them, Why are you reasoning in your hearts?	22 예수께서 그 의논을 아시고 대답하여 가라사대 너희 마음에 무슨 의논을 하느냐

23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?	23 Which is the simpler: to say, You have forgiveness for your sins; or to say, Get up and go?	23 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라 하는 말과 일어나 걸어 가라 하는 말이 어느 것이 쉽겠느냐

24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.	24 But so that you may see that on earth the Son of man has authority for the forgiveness of sins, (he said to the man who was ill,) I say to you, Get up, and take up your bed, and go into your house.	24 그러나 인자가 땅에서 죄를 사하는 권세가 있는 줄을 너희로 알게 하리라 하시고 중풍병자에게 말씀하시되 내가 네게 이르노니 일어나 네 침상을 가지고 집으로 가라 하시매

25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.	25 And straight away he got up before them, and took up his bed and went away to his house giving praise to God.	25 그 사람이 저희 앞에서 곧 일어나 그 누웠던 것을 가지고 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 자기 집으로 돌아가니

26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying ㆍ, We have seen strange things to day.	26 And wonder overcame them all, and they gave glory to God; and they were full of fear, saying, We have seen strange things today.	26 모든 사람이 놀라 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 심히 두려워하여 가로되 오늘날 우리가 기이한 일을 보았다 하니라

27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.	27 And after these things he went out, and saw Levi, a tax-farmer, seated at the place where taxes were taken, and said to him, Come after me.	27 그 후에 나가사 레위라 하는 세리가 세관에 앉은 것을 보시고 나를 좇으라 하시니

28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.	28 And giving up his business, he got up and went after him.	28 저가 모든 것을 버리고 일어나 좇으니라

29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down ㆍ with them.	29 And Levi made a great feast for him in his house: and a great number of tax-farmers and others were seated at table with them.	29 레위가 예수를 위하여 자기 집에서 큰 잔치를 하니 세리와 다른 사람이 많이 함께 앉았는지라

30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?	30 And the Pharisees and their scribes made protests against his disciples, saying, Why do you take food and drink with tax-farmers and sinners?	30 바리새인과 저희 서기관들이 그 제자들을 비방하여 가로되 너희가 어찌하여 세리와 죄인과 함께 먹고 마시느냐

31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need ㆍ not a physician; but they that are sick.	31 And Jesus, answering, said to them, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill.	31 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 건강한 자에게는 의원이 쓸데 없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸데 있나니

32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.	32 I have come, not to get the upright, but sinners, so that they may be turned from their sins.	32 내가 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니요 죄인을 불러 회개시키러 왔노라

33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?	33 And they said to him, The disciples of John frequently go without food, and make prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees; but your disciples take food and drink.	33 저희가 예수께 말하되 요한의 제자는 자주 금식하며 기도하고 바리새인의 제자들도 또한 그리하되 당신의 제자들은 먹고 마시나이다

34 And he said unto them ㆍ, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?	34 And Jesus said, Are you able to make the friends of the newly-married man go without food when he is with them?	34 예수께서 저희에게 이르시되 혼인집 손님들이 신랑과 함께 있을 때에 너희가 그 손님으로 금식하게 할 수 있느뇨

35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.	35 But the days will come when he will be taken away from them, and then they will go without food.	35 그러나 그 날에 이르러 저희가 신랑을 빼앗기리니 그 날에는 금식할 것이니라

36 And he spake also a parable unto them ㆍ; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old ㆍ; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.	36 And he said to them, in a story, No man takes a bit of cloth from a new coat and puts it on to an old coat, for so the new coat would be damaged and the bit from the new would not go well with the old.	36 또 비유하여 이르시되 새 옷에서 한 조각을 찢어 낡은 옷에 붙이는 자가 없나니 만일 그렇게 하면 새 옷을 찢을 뿐이요 또 새 옷에서 찢은 조각이 낡은 것에 합하지 아니하리라

37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.	37 And no man puts new wine into old wine-skins, for fear that the skins will be burst by the new wine, and the wine be let out, and the skins come to destruction.	37 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 넣는 자가 없나니 만일 그렇게 하면 새 포도주가 부대를 터뜨려 포도주가 쏟아지고 부대도 버리게 되리라

38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.	38 But new wine has to be put into new wine-skins.	38 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣어야 할것이니라

39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.	39 And no man, having had old wine, has any desire for new, for he says, The old is better.	39 묵은 포도주를 마시고 새 것을 원하는 자가 없나니 이는 묵은 것이 좋다 함이니라

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
