5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;	5 Every valley will be lifted up, and all the mountains and hills made low, and the twisted will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;	5 모든 골짜기가 메워지고 모든 산과 작은 산이 낮아지고 굽은 것이 곧아지고 험한 길이 평탄하여질 것이요

8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.	8 Make clear by your acts that your hearts have been changed; and do not say to yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you that God is able from these stones to make children of Abraham.	8 그러므로 회개에 합당한 열매를 맺고 속으로 아브라함이 우리 조상이라 말하지 말라 내가 너희에게 이르노니 하나님이 능히 이 돌들로도 아브라함의 자손이 되게 하시리라

9 And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.	9 And even now the axe is put to the root of the trees; and every tree which does not have good fruit will be cut down and put into the fire.	9 이미 도끼가 나무 뿌리에 놓였으니 좋은 열매 맺지 아니하는 나무마다 찍혀 불에 던지우리라

10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?	10 And the people put questions to him, saying, What have we to do?	10 무리가 물어 가로되 그러하면 우리가 무엇을 하리이까

11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.	11 And he made answer and said to them, He who has two coats, let him give to him who has not even one; and he who has food, let him do the same.	11 대답하여 가로되 옷 두 벌 있는 자는 옷 없는 자에게 나눠줄 것이요 먹을 것이 있는 자도 그렇게 할것이니라 하고

12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?	12 Then tax-farmers came to him for baptism and said to him, Master, what have we to do?	12 세리들도 세례를 받고자하여 와서 가로되 선생이여 우리는 무엇을 하리이까 하매

13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.	13 And he said to them, Do not make an attempt to get more money than the right amount.	13 가로되 정한 세 외에는 늑징치 말라하고

14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.	14 And men of the army put questions to him, saying, And what have we to do? And he said to them, Do no violent acts to any man, and do not take anything without right, and let your payment be enough for you.	14 군병들도 물어 가로되 우리는 무엇을 하리이까 하매 가로되 사람에게 강포하지 말며 무소하지 말고 받는 요를 족한 줄로 알라 하니라

15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;	15 And while the people were waiting, and all men were questioning in their hearts about John, if he was the Christ or not,	15 백성들이 바라고 기다리므로 모든 사람들이 요한을 혹 그리스도신가 심중에 의논하니

16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose ㆍ shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:	16 John made answer, saying to them all, Truly, I give you baptism with water, but one is coming who is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo: he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit, and with fire:	16 요한이 모든 사람에게 대답하여 가로되 나는 물로 너희에게 세례를 주거니와 나보다 능력이 많으신 이가 오시나니 나는 그 신들메를 풀기도 감당치 못하겠노라 그는 성령과 불로 너희에게 세례를 주실 것이요

17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.	17 In whose hand is the instrument with which he will make clean his grain; he will put the good grain in his store, but the waste will be burned in the fire which will never be put out.	17 손에 키를 들고 자기의 타작마당을 정하게 하사 알곡은 모아 곡간에 들이고 쭉정이는 꺼지지 않는 불에 태우시리라

18 And ㆍ many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.	18 And so comforting them with these and other words, he gave the good news to the people;	18 또 기타 여러가지로 권하여 백성에게 좋은 소식을 전하였으나

19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,	19 But Herod the king, because John had made a protest on account of Herodias, his brother's wife, and other evil things which Herod had done,	19 분봉왕 헤롯은 그 동생의 아내 헤로디아의 일과 또 그의 행한 모든 악한 일을 인하여 요한에게 책망을 받고

20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.	20 Did this most evil thing of all, and had John shut up in prison.	20 이 위에 한 가지 악을 더하여 요한을 옥에 가두니라

21 Now when all the people were baptized ㆍ, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,	21 Now it came about that when all the people had been given baptism, Jesus, having had baptism with them, was in prayer, when, the heaven being open,	21 백성이 다 세례를 받을쌔 예수도 세례를 받으시고 기도하실 때에 하늘이 열리며

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
