13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.	13 And they went, and it was as he had said: and they made the Passover ready.	13 저희가 나가 그 하시던 말씀대로 만나 유월절을 예비하니라

14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.	14 And when the time had come, he took his seat, and the Apostles with him.	14 때가 이르매 예수께서 사도들과 함께 앉으사

15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:	15 And he said, I have had a great desire to keep this Passover with you before I come to my death;	15 이르시되 내가 고난을 받기 전에 너희와 함께 이 유월절 먹기를 원하고 원하였노라

16 For I say unto you ㆍ, I will not any more eat thereof ㆍ, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.	16 For I say to you, I will not take it till it is made complete in the kingdom of God.	16 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이 유월절이 하나님의 나라에서 이루기까지 다시 먹지 아니하리라 하시고

18 For I say unto you ㆍ, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.	18 For I say to you, I will not take of the fruit of the vine till the kingdom of God has come.	18 내가 너희에게 이르노니 내가 이제부터 하나님의 나라가 임할 때까지 포도나무에서 난 것을 다시 마시지 아니하리라 하시고

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.	19 And he took bread and, having given praise, he gave it to them when it had been broken, saying, This is my body, which is given for you: do this in memory of me.	19 또 떡을 가져 사례하시고 떼어 저희에게 주시며 가라사대 이것은 너희를 위하여 주는 내 몸이라 너희가 이를 행하여 나를 기념하라 하시고

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.	20 And in the same way, after the meal, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new testament, made with my blood which is given for you.	20 저녁 먹은 후에 잔도 이와 같이 하여 가라사대 이 잔은 내 피로 세우는 새 언약이니 곧 너희를 위하여 붓는 것이라

21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.	21 But the hand of him who is false to me is with me at the table.	21 그러나 보라 나를 파는 자의 손이 나와 함께 상위에 있도다

22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!	22 For it will be done to the Son of man after the purpose of God, but unhappy is that man by whom he is given up.	22 인자는 이미 작정된 대로 가거니와 그를 파는 그 사람에게는 화가 있으리로다 하시니

23 And they began to inquire among themselves, which ㆍ of them it was that should do this thing.	23 And they were wondering among themselves which of them it was who would do this thing.	23 저희가 서로 묻되 우리 중에서 이 일을 행할 자가 누구일까 하더라

25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.	25 And he said, The kings of the Gentiles are lords over them, and those who have authority are given names of honour.	25 예수께서 이르시되 이방인의 임금들은 저희를 주관하며 그 집권자들은 은인이라 칭함을 받으나

26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.	26 But let it not be so with you; but he who is greater, let him become like the younger; and he who is chief, like a servant.	26 너희는 그렇지 않을찌니 너희 중에 큰 자는 젊은 자와 같고 두목은 섬기는 자와 같을찌니라

27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among ㆍ you as he that serveth.	27 For which is greater, the guest who is seated at a meal or the servant who is waiting on him? is it not the guest? but I am among you as a servant.	27 앉아서 먹는 자가 크냐 섬기는 자가 크냐 앉아 먹는 자가 아니냐 그러나 나는 섬기는 자로 너희 중에 있노라

29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;	29 And I will give you a kingdom as my Father has given one to me,	29 내 아버지께서 나라를 내게 맡기신것 같이 나도 너희에게 맡겨

30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.	30 So that you may take food and drink at my table in my kingdom, and be seated like kings, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.	30 너희로 내 나라에 있어 내 상에서 먹고 마시며 또는 보좌에 앉아 이스라엘 열 두 지파를 다스리게 하려 하노라

31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:	31 Simon, Simon, Satan has made a request to have you, so that he may put you to the test as grain is tested:	31 시몬아, 시몬아, 보라 사단이 밀 까부르듯 하려고 너희를 청구하였으나

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.	32 But I have made prayer for you, that your faith may not go from you: and when you are turned again, make your brothers strong.	32 그러나 내가 너를 위하여 네 믿음이 떨어지지 않기를 기도하였노니 너는 돌이킨 후에 네 형제를 굳게 하라

33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.	33 And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.	33 저가 말하되 주여 내가 주와 함께 옥에도, 죽는데도 가기를 준비하였나이다

34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.	34 And he said, I say to you, Peter, before the cock's second cry today, you will say three times that you have no knowledge of me.	34 가라사대 베드로야 내가 네게 말하노니 오늘 닭 울기 전에 네가 세번 나를 모른다고 부인하리라 하시니라

35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes ㆍ, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.	35 And he said to them, When I sent you out without money or bag or shoes, were you in need of anything? And they said, Nothing.	35 저희에게 이르시되 내가 너희를 전대와 주머니와 신도 없이 보내었을 때에 부족한 것이 있더냐 가로되 없었나이다

36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.	36 And he said to them, But now, he who has a money-bag, or a bag for food, let him take it: and he who has not, let him give his coat for money and get a sword.	36 이르시되 이제는 전대 있는 자는 가질 것이요 주머니도 그리하고 검 없는 자는 겉옷을 팔아 살찌어다

37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.	37 For I say to you that these words will be put into effect in me, And he was numbered among the evil-doers: for what has been said in the Writings about me has an end.	37 내가 너희에게 말하노니 기록된바 저는 불법자의 동류로 여김을 받았다 한 말이 내게 이루어져야 하리니 내게 관한 일이 이루어 감이니라

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.	38 And they said, Lord, here are two swords. And he said, It is enough.	38 저희가 여짜오되 주여 보소서 여기 검 둘이 있나이다 대답하시되 족하다 하시니라

39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.	39 And he came out, and went, as his way was, to the Mountain of Olives, and the disciples went with him.	39 예수께서 나가사 습관을 좇아 감람산에 가시매 제자들도 좇았더니

40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.	40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, Make a prayer that you may not be put to the test.	40 그곳에 이르러 저희에게 이르시되 시험에 들지 않기를 기도하라 하시고

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down ㆍ, and prayed,	41 And he went a little distance away from them and, falling on his knees in prayer, he said,	41 저희를 떠나 돌 던질만큼 가서 무릎을 꿇고 기도하여

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.	42 Father, if it is your pleasure, take this cup from me: but still, let your pleasure, not mine, be done.	42 가라사대 아버지여 만일 아버지의 뜻이어든 이 잔을 내게서 옮기시옵소서 그러나 내 원대로 마옵시고 아버지의 원대로 되기를 원하나이다 하시니

43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.	43 And an angel from heaven came to him, to give him strength.	43 사자가 하늘로부터 예수께 나타나 힘을 돕더라

44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.	44 And being in great trouble of soul, the force of his prayer became stronger, and great drops, like blood, came from him, falling to the earth.	44 예수께서 힘쓰고 애써 더욱 간절히 기도하시니 땀이 땅에 떨어지는 피방울 같이 되더라

45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,	45 And, getting up from prayer, he came to the disciples, and saw that they were sleeping for sorrow.	45 기도 후에 일어나 제자들에게 가서 슬픔을 인하여 잠든 것을 보시고

46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.	46 And he said, Why are you sleeping? Get up, and give yourselves to prayer, so that you may not be put to the test.	46 이르시되 어찌하여 자느냐 시험에 들지 않게 일어나 기도하라 하시니라

47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.	47 And while he was saying these words, there came a band of people, and Judas, one of the twelve, was in front of them, and he came near to Jesus to give him a kiss.	47 말씀하실 때에 한 무리가 오는데 열 둘 중에 하나인 유다라 하는 자가 그들의 앞에 서서 와서

48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?	48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, will you be false to the Son of man with a kiss?	48 예수께 입을 맞추려고 가까이 하는지라 예수께서 이르시되 유다야 네가 입맞춤으로 인자를 파느냐 하시니

49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord ㆍ, shall we smite with the sword?	49 And when those who were with him saw what was coming, they said, Lord, may we not make use of our swords?	49 좌우가 그 될 일을 보고 여짜오되 주여 우리가 검으로 치리이까 하고

50 And one ㆍ of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.	50 And one of them gave a blow to the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.	50 그 중에 한 사람이 대제사장의 종을 쳐 그 오른편 귀를 떨어뜨린지라

51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.	51 But Jesus, answering, said, Put up with this, at least. And touching his ear, he made it well.	51 예수께서 일러 가라사대 이것까지 참으라 하시고 그 귀를 만져 낫게 하시더라

52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?	52 And Jesus said to the chief priests and the captains of the Temple and the rulers, who had come against him, Have you come out as against a thief, with swords and sticks?	52 예수께서 그 잡으러 온 대제사장들과 성전의 군관들과 장로들에게 이르시되 너희가 강도를 잡는 것 같이 검과 몽치를 가지고 나왔느냐

53 When I was daily ㆍ with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.	53 When I was in the Temple with you every day, your hands were not stretched out against me: but this is your hour, and the authority of the dark power.	53 내가 날마다 너희와 함께 성전에 있을 때에 내게 손을 대지 아니하였도다 그러나 이제는 너희 때요 어두움의 권세로다 하시더라

54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.	54 And they made him a prisoner and took him away to the house of the high priest. But Peter went after them at a distance.	54 예수를 잡아 끌고 대제사장의 집으로 들어갈쌔 베드로가 멀찍이 따라가니라

55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among ㆍ them.	55 And a fire was lighted in the middle of the open square, and they were seated together, and Peter was among them.	55 사람들이 뜰 가운데 불을 피우고 함께 앉았는지라 베드로도 그 가운데 앉았더니

56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.	56 And a certain woman-servant, seeing him in the light of the fire, and looking at him with attention, said, This man was with him.	56 한 비자가 베드로의 불빛을 향하여 앉은 것을 보고 주목하여 가로되 이 사람도 그와 함께 있었느니라 하니

57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.	57 But he said, Woman, it is not true; I have no knowledge of him.	57 베드로가 부인하여 가로되 이 여자여 내가 저를 알지 못하노라 하더라

58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.	58 And after a little time, another saw him and said, You are one of them; and he said, Man, I am not.	58 조금 후에 다른 사람이 보고 가로되 너도 그 당이라 하거늘 베드로가 가로되 이 사람아 나는 아니로라 하더라

59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.	59 And after about an hour, another man said, with decision, Certainly this man was with him, for he is a Galilaean.	59 한 시쯤 있다가 또 한 사람이 장담하여 가로되 이는 갈릴리 사람이니 참으로 그와 함께 있었느니라

60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.	60 And Peter said, Man, I have no knowledge of these things of which you are talking. And straight away, while he was saying these words, there came the cry of a cock.	60 베드로가 가로되 이 사람아 나는 너 하는 말을 알지 못하노라고 방금 말할 때에 닭이 곧 울더라

61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.	61 And the Lord, turning, gave Peter a look. And the words of the Lord came to Peter's mind, how he had said, This night, before the hour of the cock's cry, you will be false to me three times.	61 주께서 돌이켜 베드로를 보시니 베드로가 주의 말씀 곧 오늘 닭 울기 전에 네가 세번 나를 부인하리라 하심이 생각나서

62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.	62 And he went out, weeping bitterly.	62 밖에 나가서 심히 통곡하니라

63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.	63 And the men in whose hands Jesus was, made sport of him and gave him blows.	63 지키는 사람들이 예수를 희롱하고 때리며

64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?	64 And, covering his eyes, they said to him, Are you prophet enough to say who gave you that blow?	64 그의 눈을 가리우고 물어 가로되 선지자 노릇 하라 너를 친 자가 누구냐 하고

65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.	65 And they said a number of other evil things against him.	65 이 외에도 많은 말로 욕하더라

66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,	66 And when it was day, the rulers of the people came together, with the chief priests and the scribes, and they took him before their Sanhedrin, saying,	66 날이 새매 백성의 장로들 곧 대제사장들과 서기관들이 모이어 예수를 그 공회로 끌어들여

67 ㆍ Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:	67 If you are the Christ, say so. But he said, If I say so you will not have belief;	67 가로되 네가 그리스도여든 우리에게 말하라 대답하시되 내가 말할찌라도 너희가 믿지 아니할 것이요

68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.	68 And if I put a question to you, you will not give an answer.	68 내가 물어도 너희가 대답지 아니할 것이니라

69 Hereafter ㆍ shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.	69 But in the future the Son of man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.	69 그러나 이제 후로는 인자가 하나님의 권능의 우편에 앉아 있으리라 하시니

70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.	70 And they all said, Are you then the Son of God? and he said, You say that I am.	70 다 가로되 그러면 네가 하나님의 아들이냐 대답하시되 너희 말과 같이 내가 그니라

71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.	71 And they said, What more need have we of witness? we have the very words of his mouth.	71 저희가 가로되 어찌 더 증거를 요구하리요 우리가 친히 그 입에서 들었노라 하더라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
