12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.	12 And this is the sign to you: you will see a young child folded in linen, in the place where the cattle have their food.	12 너희가 가서 강보에 싸여 구유에 누인 아기를 보리니 이것이 너희에게 표적이니라 하더니

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,	13 And suddenly there was with the angel a great band of spirits from heaven, giving praise to God, and saying,	13 홀연히 허다한 천군이 그 천사와 함께 있어 하나님을 찬송하여 가로되

21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child ㆍ, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.	21 And when, after eight days, the time came for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name which the angel had given to him before his birth.	21 할례할 팔일이 되매 그 이름을 예수라 하니 곧 수태하기 전에 천사의 일컬은 바러라

22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;	22 And when the necessary days for making them clean by the law of Moses had come to an end, they took him to Jerusalem to give him to the Lord	22 모세의 법대로 결례의 날이 차매 아기를 데리고 예루살렘에 올라가니

23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord ㆍ, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)	23 (As it says in the law of the Lord, Every mother's first male child is to be holy to the Lord),	23 이는 주의 율법에 쓴바 첫 태에 처음 난 남자마다 주의 거룩한 자라 하리라 한대로 아기를 주께 드리고

24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.	24 And to make an offering, as it is ordered in the law of the Lord, of two doves or other young birds.	24 또 주의 율법에 말씀하신대로 비둘기 한 쌍이나 혹 어린 반구 둘로 제사하려함이더라

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.	25 And there was then in Jerusalem a man whose name was Simeon; and he was an upright man, fearing God and waiting for the comfort of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was on him.	25 예루살렘에 시므온이라 하는 사람이 있으니 이 사람이 의롭고 경건하여 이스라엘의 위로를 기다리는 자라 성령이 그 위에 계시더라

26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.	26 And he had knowledge, through the Holy Spirit, that he would not see death till he had seen the Lord's Christ.	26 저가 주의 그리스도를 보기 전에 죽지 아니하리라 하는 성령의 지시를 받았더니

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do ㆍ for him after the custom of the law,	27 And full of the Spirit he came into the Temple; and when the father and mother came in with the child Jesus, to do with him what was ordered by the law,	27 성령의 감동으로 성전에 들어가매 마침 부모가 율법의 전례대로 행하고자 하여 그 아기 예수를 데리고 오는지라

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,	28 Then he took him in his arms and gave praise to God and said,	28 시므온이 아기를 안고 하나님을 찬송하여 가로되

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:	29 Now you are letting your servant go in peace, O Lord, as you have said;	29 주재여 이제는 말씀하신대로 종을 평안히 놓아 주시는도다

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,	30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,	30 내 눈이 주의 구원을 보았사오니

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;	31 Which you have made ready before the face of all nations;	31 이는 만민 앞에 예비하신 것이요

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.	32 A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.	32 이방을 비추는 빛이요 주의 백성 이스라엘의 영광이니이다 하니

33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled ㆍ at those things which were spoken of him.	33 And his father and mother were full of wonder at the things which were said about him.	33 그 부모가 그 아기에 대한 말들을 기이히 여기더라

34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;	34 And Simeon gave them his blessing and said to Mary, his mother, See, this child will be the cause of the downfall and the lifting up of great numbers of people in Israel, and he will be a sign against which hard words will be said;	34 시므온이 저희에게 축복하고 그 모친 마리아에게 일러 가로되 보라 이 아이는 이스라엘 중 많은 사람의 패하고 흥함을 위하며 비방을 받는 표적 되기 위하여 세움을 입었고

35 ㆍ (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.	35 (And a sword will go through your heart;) so that the secret thoughts of men may come to light.	35 또 칼이 네 마음을 찌르듯 하리라 이는 여러 사람의 마음의 생각을 드러내려 함이니라 하더라

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she ㆍ was of a great ㆍ age ㆍ, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;	36 And there was one, Anna, a woman prophet, the daughter of Phanuel, of the family of Asher (she was very old, and after seven years of married life	36 또 아셀 지파 바누엘의 딸 안나라 하는 선지자가 있어 나이 매우 늙었더라 그가 출가한 후 일곱 해 동안 남편과 함께 살다가

37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.	37 She had been a widow for eighty-four years); she was in the Temple at all times, worshipping with prayers and going without food, night and day.	37 과부 된지 팔십 사년이라 이 사람이 성전을 떠나지 아니하고 주야에 금식하며 기도함으로 섬기더니

38 And she ㆍ coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.	38 And coming up at that time, she gave praise to God, talking of him to all those who were waiting for the freeing of Jerusalem.	38 마침 이 때에 나아와서 하나님께 감사하고 예루살렘의 구속됨을 바라는 모든 사람에게 이 아기에 대하여 말하니라

39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.	39 And when they had done all the things which were ordered by the law of the Lord, they went back to Galilee, to Nazareth, the town where they were living.	39 주의 율법을 좇아 모든 일을 필하고 갈릴리로 돌아가 본 동네 나사렛에 이르니라

40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.	40 And the child became tall and strong and full of wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.	40 아기가 자라며 강하여지고 지혜가 충족하며 하나님의 은혜가 그 위에 있더라

41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.	41 And every year his father and mother went to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.	41 그 부모가 해마다 유월절을 당하면 예루살렘으로 가더니

42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.	42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up, as their way was, to the feast;	42 예수께서 열 두살 될 때에 저희가 이 절기의 전례를 좇아 올라갔다가

43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.	43 And when the days of the feast came to an end and they were going back, the boy Jesus was still in Jerusalem, but they had no knowledge of it:	43 그 날들을 마치고 돌아갈 때에 아이 예수는 예루살렘에 머무셨더라 그 부모는 이를 알지 못하고

44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and ㆍ acquaintance.	44 And in the belief that he was with some of their number, they went a day's journey; and after looking for him among their relations and friends,	44 동행 중에 있는 줄로 생각하고 하룻길을 간 후 친족과 아는 자 중에서 찾되

45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.	45 And seeing that he was not there, they went back to Jerusalem, to make search for him.	45 만나지 못하매 찾으면서 예루살렘에 돌아갔더니

46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.	46 And after three days they came across him in the Temple, seated among the wise men, giving ear to their words and putting questions to them.	46 사흘 후에 성전에서 만난즉 그가 선생들 중에 앉으사 저희에게 듣기도 하시며 묻기도 하시니

47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.	47 And all to whose ears it came were full of wonder at his knowledge and the answers which he gave.	47 듣는 자가 다 그 지혜와 대답을 기이히 여기더라

48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.	48 And when they saw him they were surprised, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? see, your father and I have been looking for you with sorrow.	48 그 부모가 보고 놀라며 그 모친은 가로되 아이야 어찌하여 우리에게 이렇게 하였느냐 보라 네 아버지와 내가 근심하여 너를 찾았노라

49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?	49 And he said to them, Why were you looking for me? was it not clear to you that my right place was in my Father's house?	49 예수께서 가라사대 어찌하여 나를 찾으셨나이까 내가 내 아버지 집에 있어야 될 줄을 알지 못하셨나이까 하시니

50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.	50 And his words seemed strange to them.	50 양친이 그 하신 말씀을 깨닫지 못하더라

51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.	51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth; and did as he was ordered: and his mother kept all these words in her heart.	51 예수께서 한가지로 내려가사 나사렛에 이르러 순종하여 받드시더라 그 모친은 이 모든 말을 마음에 두니라

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
