7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.	7 And when they saw it, they were all angry, saying, He has gone into the house of a sinner.	7 뭇사람이 보고 수군거려 가로되 저가 죄인의 집에 유하러 들어갔도다 하더라

8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.	8 And Zacchaeus, waiting before him, said to the Lord, See, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I give him back four times as much.	8 삭개오가 서서 주께 여짜오되 주여 보시옵소서 내 소유의 절반을 가난한 자들에게 주겠사오며 만일 뉘 것을 토색한 일이 있으면 사배나 갚겠나이다

9 And Jesus said unto him ㆍ, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.	9 And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for even he is a son of Abraham.	9 예수께서 이르시되 오늘 구원이 이 집에 이르렀으니 이 사람도 아브라함의 자손임이로다

10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.	10 For the Son of man came to make search for those who are wandering from the way, and to be their Saviour.	10 인자의 온 것은 잃어버린 자를 찾아 구원하려 함이니라

11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.	11 And while they were giving ear to these words, he made another story for them, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they were of the opinion that the kingdom of God was coming straight away.	11 저희가 이 말씀을 듣고 있을 때에 비유를 더하여 말씀하시니 이는 자기가 예루살렘에 가까이 오셨고 저희는 하나님의 나라가 당장에 나타날 줄로 생각함이러라

12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman ㆍ went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.	12 So he said, A certain man of high birth went into a far-away country to get a kingdom for himself, and to come back.	12 가라사대 어떤 귀인이 왕위를 받아가지고 오려고 먼 나라로 갈 때에

13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.	13 And he sent for ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds and said to them, Do business with this till I come.	13 그 종 열을 불러 은 열 므나를 주며 이르되 내가 돌아오기까지 장사하라 하니라

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.	14 But his people had no love for him, and sent representatives after him, saying, We will not have this man for our ruler.	14 그런데 그 백성이 저를 미워하여 사자를 뒤로 보내어 가로되 우리는 이 사람이 우리의 왕 됨을 원치 아니하노이다 하였더라

15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.	15 And when he came back again, having got his kingdom, he gave orders for those servants to whom he had given the money to come to him, so that he might have an account of what business they had done.	15 귀인이 왕위를 받아 가지고 돌아와서 은 준 종들의 각각 어떻게 장사한 것을 알고자 하여 저희를 부르니

16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.	16 And the first came before him, saying, Lord, your pound has made ten pounds.	16 그 첫째가 나아와 가로되 주여 주의 한 므나로 열 므나를 남겼나이다

17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority ㆍ over ten cities.	17 And he said to him, You have done well, O good servant: because you have done well in a small thing you will have authority over ten towns.	17 주인이 이르되 잘하였다 착한 종이여 네가 지극히 작은 것에 충성하였으니 열 고을 권세를 차지하라 하고

18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.	18 And another came, saying, Your pound has made five pounds.	18 그 둘째가 와서 가로되 주여 주의 한 므나로 다섯 므나를 만들었나이다

19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.	19 And he said, You will be ruler over five towns.	19 주인이 그에게도 이르되 너도 다섯 고을을 차지하라 하고

20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:	20 And another came, saying, Lord, here is your pound, which I put away in a cloth;	20 또 한 사람이 와서 가로되 주여 보소서 주의 한 므나가 여기 있나이다 내가 수건으로 싸두었었나이다

21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.	21 Because I was in fear of you, for you are a hard man: you take up what you have not put down, and get in grain where you have not put seed.	21 이는 당신이 엄한 사람인 것을 내가 무서워함이라 당신은 두지 않은 것을 취하고 심지 않은 것을 거두나이다

22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:	22 He said to him, By the words of your mouth you will be judged, you bad servant. You had knowledge that I am a hard man, taking up what I have not put down and getting in grain where I have not put seed;	22 주인이 이르되 악한 종아 내가 네 말로 너를 판단하노니 너는 내가 두지 않은 것을 취하고 심지 않은 것을 거두는 엄한 사람인 줄을 알았느냐

23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?	23 Why then did you not put my money in a bank, so that when I came I would get it back with interest?	23 그러면 어찌하여 내 은을 은행에 두지 아니하였느냐 그리하였으면 내가 와서 그 변리까지 찾았으리라 하고

24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.	24 And he said to the others who were near, Take the pound away from him, and give it to the man who has ten.	24 곁에 섰는 자들에게 이르되 그 한 므나를 빼앗아 열 므나 있는 자에게 주라 하니

25 ㆍ (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)	25 And they say to him, Lord, he has ten pounds.	25 저희가 가로되 주여 저에게 이미 열 므나가 있나이다

26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.	26 And I say to you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.	26 주인이 가로되 내가 너희에게 말하노니 무릇 있는 자는 받겠고 없는 자는 그 있는 것도 빼앗기리라

27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.	27 And as for those who were against me, who would not have me for their ruler, let them come here, and be put to death before me.	27 그리고 나의 왕 됨을 원치 아니하던 저 원수들을 이리로 끌어다가 내 앞에서 죽이라 하였느니라

28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.	28 And when he had said this, he went on in front of them, going up to Jerusalem.	28 예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고 예루살렘을 향하여 앞서서 가시더라

29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,	29 And it came about that when he got near Beth-phage and Bethany by the mountain which is named the Mountain of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,	29 감람원이라는 산의 벳바게와 베다니에 가까이 왔을 때에 제자 중 둘을 보내시며

30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat ㆍ: loose him, and bring him hither.	30 Saying, Go into the little town in front of you, and on going in you will see a young ass fixed with a cord, on which no man has ever been seated; let him loose and take him.	30 이르시되 너희 맞은편 마을로 가라 그리로 들어가면 아직 아무 사람도 타보지 않은 나귀새끼의 매여 있는 것을 보리니 풀어 끌고 오너라

31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.	31 And if anyone says to you, Why are you taking him? say, The Lord has need of him.	31 만일 누가 너희에게 어찌하여 푸느냐 묻거든 이렇게 말하되 주가 쓰시겠다 하라 하시매

32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.	32 And those whom he sent went away, and it was as he said.	32 보내심을 받은 자들이 가서 그 말씀하신대로 만난지라

33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?	33 And when they were getting the young ass, the owners of it said to them, Why are you taking the young ass?	33 나귀새끼를 풀 때에 그 임자들이 이르되 어찌하여 나귀새끼를 푸느냐

34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.	34 And they said, The Lord has need of him.	34 대답하되 주께서 쓰시겠다 하고

35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon ㆍ the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.	35 And they took him to Jesus, and they put their clothing on the ass, and Jesus got on to him.	35 그것을 예수께로 끌고 와서 자기들의 겉옷을 나귀새끼 위에 걸쳐 놓고 예수를 태우니

36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.	36 And while he went on his way they put their clothing down on the road in front of him.	36 가실 때에 저희가 자기의 겉옷을 길에 펴더라

37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;	37 And when he came near the foot of the Mountain of Olives, all the disciples with loud voices gave praise to God with joy, because of all the great works which they had seen;	37 이미 감람산에서 내려가는 편까지 가까이 오시매 제자의 온 무리가 자기의 본바 모든 능한 일을 인하여 기뻐하며 큰 소리로 하나님을 찬양하여

38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.	38 Saying, A blessing on the King who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest.	38 가로되 찬송하리로다 주의 이름으로 오시는 왕이여 하늘에는 평화요 가장 높은 곳에는 영광이로다 하니

39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.	39 And some of the Pharisees among the people said to him, Master, make your disciples be quiet.	39 무리 중 어떤 바리새인들이 말하되 선생이여 당신의 제자들을 책망하소서 하거늘

40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.	40 And he said in answer, I say to you, if these men keep quiet, the very stones will be crying out.	40 대답하여 가라사대 내가 너희에게 말하노니 만일 이 사람들이 잠잠하면 돌들이 소리지르리라 하시니라

41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,	41 And when he got near and saw the town, he was overcome with weeping for it,	41 가까이 오사 성을 보시고 우시며

42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.	42 Saying, If you, even you, had knowledge today, of the things which give peace! but you are not able to see them.	42 가라사대 너도 오늘날 평화에 관한 일을 알았더면 좋을 뻔하였거니와 지금 네 눈에 숨기웠도다

43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,	43 For the time will come when your attackers will put a wall round you, and come all round you and keep you in on every side,	43 날이 이를찌라 네 원수들이 토성을 쌓고 너를 둘러 사면으로 가두고

44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.	44 And will make you level with the earth, and your children with you; and there will not be one stone resting on another in you, because you did not see that it was your day of mercy.	44 또 너와 및 그 가운데 있는 네 자식들을 땅에 메어치며 돌 하나도 돌 위에 남기지 아니하리니 이는 권고 받는 날을 네가 알지 못함을 인함이니라 하시니라

45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein ㆍ, and them that bought;	45 And he went into the Temple and put out those who were trading there,	45 성전에 들어가사 장사하는 자들을 내어 쫓으시며

46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.	46 Saying to them, It has been said, My house is to be a house of prayer, but you have made it a hole of thieves.	46 저희에게 이르시되 기록된바 내 집은 기도하는 집이 되리라 하였거늘 너희는 강도의 굴혈을 만들었도다 하시니라

47 And he taught ㆍ daily ㆍ in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,	47 And every day he was teaching in the Temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people were attempting to put him to death;	47 예수께서 날마다 성전에서 가르치시니 대제사장들과 서기관들과 백성의 두목들이 그를 죽이려고 꾀하되

48 And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.	48 But they were not able to do anything, because the people all kept near him, being greatly interested in his words.	48 백성이 다 그에게 귀를 기울여 들으므로 어찌할 방침을 찾지 못하였더라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
