2 And the Lord said to Gideon, So great is the number of your people, that if I give the Midianites into their hands they will be uplifted in pride over me and will say, I myself have been my saviour.

5 So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORDsaid unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a doglappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.[x]MKJV: And he brought down the people to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, Everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set him apart; also everyone who bows down upon his knees to drink. 5 So he took the people down to the water; and the Lord said to Gideon, Put on one side by themselves all those drinking up the water with their tongues like a dog; and in the same way, all those who go down on their knees to the water while drinking.

6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were threehundredmen: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drinkwater.[x]MKJV: And the number of them who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, [was] three hundred men. But all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water. 10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servantdown to the host:[x]MKJV: But if you fear to go down, go with Phurah your servant down to the army. 10 But if you have fear of going down, take your servant Purah with you and go down to the tents;

11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.[x]MKJV: And you shall hear what they shall say. And afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down to the army. Then he went down with Phurah his servant to the edge of the ranks in the army. BBE: And after hearing what they are saying, you will get strength to go down against the army. So he went down with his servant Purah to the outer line of the tents of the armed men. 12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the eastlay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camelswere without number, as the sand by the seaside for multitude.[x]MKJV: And the Midianites and the Amalekites, and all the sons of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude, and their camels without number, like the sand by the seaside for multitude. BBE: Now the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the people of the east were covering the valley like locusts; and their camels were like the sand by the seaside, without number. 13 When Gideon came there, a man was giving his friend an account of his dream, saying, See, I had a dream about a cake of barley bread which, falling into the tents of Midian, came on to the tent, overturning it so that it was stretched out flat on the earth.

14 And his fellowanswered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath GoddeliveredMidian, and all the host.[x]MKJV: And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else except the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. For into his hand God has delivered Midian and all the army. BBE: And his friend in answer said, This is certainly the sword of Gideon, the son of Joash, the men of Israel: into their hands God has given up all the army of Midian. 15 And it was so, when Gideonheard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.[x]MKJV: And it happened, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and the meaning of it, he worshiped. And [he] returned to the army of Israel, and said, Arise! For the LORD has delivered the host of Midian into your hand. BBE: Then Gideon, hearing the story of the dream and the sense in which they took it, gave worship; then he went back to the tents of Israel, and said, Up! for the Lord has given the army of Midian into your hands. BBE: At the sound of my horn, and the horns of those who are with me, let your horns be sounded all round the tents, and say, For the Lord and for Gideon. 18 At the sound of my horn, and the horns of those who are with me, let your horns be sounded all round the tents, and say, For the Lord and for Gideon.

22 삼백명이 나팔을 불 때에 여호와께서 그 온 적군으로 동무끼리 칼날로 치게 하시므로 적군이 도망하여 스레라의 벧 싯다에 이르고 또 답밧에 가까운 아벨므홀라의 경계에 이르렀으며

25 또 미디안 두 방백 오렙과 스엡을 사로잡아 오렙은 오렙 바위에서 죽이고 스엡은 스엡 포도주 틀에서 죽이고 미디안 사람을 추격하고 오렙과 스엡의 머리를 가지고 요단 저편에서 기드온에게로 나아오니라
