1 Now the angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, ***I took you out of Egypt, guiding you into the land which I gave by an oath to your fathers; and I said, My agreement with you will never be broken by me:

2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?[x]MKJV: And you shall make no treaty with those who live in this land. You shall throw down their altars. But you have not obeyed My voice. What [is] this that you have done? BBE: And you are to make no agreement with the people of this land; you are to see that their altars are broken down: but you have not given ear to my voice: what have you done? 4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORDspake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.[x]MKJV: And it happened when the Angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. BBE: Now on hearing these words which the angel of the Lord said to all the children of Israel, the people gave themselves up to loud crying and weeping. 12 And they forsook the LORDGod of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followedㆍothergods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.[x]MKJV: And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt. And they followed other gods of the gods of the people who were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked the LORD to anger. 16 Nevertheless the LORD raised upjudges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.[x]MKJV: But the LORD raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who spoiled them. 17 And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoringafterothergods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turnedquickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.[x]MKJV: And yet they would not listen to their judges, but they went lusting after other gods, and bowed themselves to them. They turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, for they had obeyed the commandments of the LORD; these did not do so. 18 And when the LORDraised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORDbecause of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.[x]MKJV: And when the LORD raised judges up for them, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. For the LORD took pity because of their groanings before their oppressors and their crushers. BBE: And whenever the Lord gave them judges, then the Lord was with the judge, and was their saviour from the hands of their haters all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved by their cries of grief because of those who were cruel to them. 18 여호와께서 그들을 위하여 사사를 세우실 때에는 그 사사와 함께 하셨고 그 사사의 사는 날 동안에는 여호와께서 그들을 대적의 손에서 구원하셨으니 이는 그들이 대적에게 압박과 괴롭게 함을 받아 슬피 부르짖으므로 여호와께서 뜻을 돌이키셨음이어늘
19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corruptedthemselves more than their fathers, in followingㆍothergods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubbornway.[x]MKJV: And it happened when the judge was dead, they returned and made themselves more rotten than their fathers in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down to them. They did not cease from their own doings nor from their stubborn way. BBE: But whenever the judge was dead, they went back and did more evil than their fathers, going after other gods, to be their servants and their worshippers; giving up nothing of their sins and their hard-hearted ways. 19 그 사사가 죽은 후에는 그들이 돌이켜 그 열조보다 더욱 패괴하여 다른 신들을 좇아 섬겨 그들에게 절하고 그 행위와 패역한 길을 그치지 아니하였으므로
20 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;[x]MKJV: And the anger of the LORD glowed against Israel. And He said, Because this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to My voice, BBE: And the wrath of the Lord was burning against Israel, and he said, Because this nation has not been true to my agreement which I made with their fathers, and has not given ear to my voice; KAV: ¶ {주}의 분노가 이스라엘을 향하여 맹렬히 타올라 그분께서 이르시되, 이 백성이 내가 그들의 조상들에게 명령한 내 언약을 어기고 내 목소리에 귀를 기울이지 아니하였은즉 TSK: the anger: jud 2:14, jud 3:8, jud 10:7, ex 32:10,11, de 32:22; transgressed: ex 24:3-8, de 29:10-13, jos 23:16, jos 24:21-25, jer 31:32, eze 20:37

21 From now on I will not go on driving out from before them any of the nations which at the death of Joshua were still living in this land;

22 That through them I may proveIsrael, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keepit, or not.[x]MKJV: so that by them I may test Israel, whether they are keeping the way of the LORD, to go in it, as their fathers kept it, or not. BBE: In order to put Israel to the test, and see if they will keep the way of the Lord, walking in it as their fathers did, or not. 22 이는 이스라엘이 그 열조의 지킨것 같이 나 여호와의 도를 지켜 행하나 아니하나 그들로 시험하려 함이라 하시니라
23 Therefore the LORDleft those nations, without driving them outhastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.[x]MKJV: And the LORD left those nations, without driving them out quickly. And He did not deliver them into the hand of Joshua. BBE: So the Lord let those nations go on living in the land, not driving them out quickly, and did not give them up into the hands of Joshua. KAV: 그러므로 {주}께서 그 민족들을 속히 쫓아내지 아니하시고 남겨 두셨으며 그들을 여호수아의 손에 넘겨주지 아니하셨더라.
23 So the Lord let those nations go on living in the land, not driving them out quickly, and did not give them up into the hands of Joshua.
23 그 열국을 머물러두사 속히 쫓아내지 아니하시며 여호수아의 손에 붙이지 아니하셨음이 이를 인함이었더라
