1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?1 Now after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel made request to the Lord, saying, Who is to go up first to make war for us against the Canaanites?1 여호수아가 죽은 후에 이스라엘 자손이 여호와께 묻자와 가로되 우리 중 누가 먼저 올라가서 가나안 사람과 싸우리이까
2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.2 And the Lord said, Judah is to go up: see, I have given the land into his hands.2 여호와께서 가라사대 유다가 올라갈찌니라 보라 내가 이 땅을 그 손에 붙였노라 하시니라
3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.3 Then Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my heritage, so that we may make war against the Canaanites; and I will then go with you into your heritage. 4 And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.4 And Judah went up; and the Lord gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands; and they overcame ten thousand of them in Bezek.4 유다가 올라가매 여호와께서 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 그들의 손에 붙이신지라 그들이 베섹에서 일만명을 죽이고
5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.5 And they came across Adoni-zedek, and made war on him; and they overcame the Canaanites and the Perizzites.5 또 베섹에서 아도니 베섹을 만나서 그와 싸워 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 죽이니
6 But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.6 But Adoni-zedek went in flight; and they went after him and overtook him, and had his thumbs and his great toes cut off.6 아도니 베섹이 도망하는지라 그를 쫓아가서 잡아 그 수족의 엄지가락을 끊으매
7 And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.7 And Adoni-zedek said, Seventy kings, whose thumbs and great toes had been cut off, got broken meat under my table: as I have done, so has God done to me in full. And they took him to Jerusalem, and he came to his end there.7 아도니 베섹이 가로되 옛적에 칠십 왕이 그 수족의 엄지가락을 찍히고 내 상 아래서 먹을 것을 줍더니 하나님이 나의 행한대로 내게 갚으심이로다 하니라 무리가 그를 끌고 예루살렘에 이르렀더니 그가 거기서 죽었더라
8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.8 Then the children of Judah made an attack on Jerusalem, and took it, burning down the town after they had put its people to the sword without mercy.8 유다 자손이 예루살렘을 쳐서 취하여 칼날로 치고 성을 불살랐으며
9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.9 After that the children of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites living in the hill-country and in the south and in the lowlands.9 그 후에 유다 자손이 내려가서 산지와 남방과 평지에 거한 가나안 사람과 싸웠고
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.10 And Caleb went against the Canaanites of Hebron: (now in earlier times Hebron was named Kiriath-arba:) and he put Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai to the sword.10 유다가 또 가서 헤브론에 거한 가나안 사람을 쳐서 세새와 아히만과 달매를 죽였더라 헤브론의 본 이름은 기럇 아르바이었더라
11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:11 And from there he went up against the people of Debir. (Now the name of Debir in earlier times was Kiriath-sepher.)11 거기서 나아가서 드빌의 거민들을 쳤으니 드빌의 본 이름은 기럇 세벨이라
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.12 And Caleb said, I will give Achsah, my daughter, as wife to the man who overcomes Kiriath-sepher and takes it.12 갈렙이 말하기를 기럇 세벨을 쳐서 그것을 취하는 자에게는 내 딸 악사를 아내로 주리라 하였더니
13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.13 And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah for his wife.13 갈렙의 아우요 그나스의 아들인 옷니엘이 그것을 취한고로 갈렙이 그 딸 악사를 그에게 아내로 주었더라
14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?14 Now when she came to him, he put into her mind the idea of requesting a field from her father: and she got down from her ass; and Caleb said to her, What is it?14 악사가 출가할 때에 그에게 청하여 자기 아비에게 밭을 구하자 하고 나귀에서 내리매 갈렙이 묻되 네가 무엇을 원하느냐
15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.15 And she said to him, Give me a blessing; because you have put me in a dry south-land, now give me springs of water. So Caleb gave her the higher spring and the lower spring.15 가로되 내게 복을 주소서 아버지께서 나를 남방으로 보내시니 샘물도 내게 주소서 하매 갈렙이 윗샘과 아랫샘을 그에게 주었더라
16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees ㆍ with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.16 Now Hobab the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had come up out of the town of palm-trees, with the children of Judah, into the waste land of Arad; and he went and was living among the Amalekites;16 모세의 장인은 겐 사람이라 그 자손이 유다 자손과 함께 종려나무 성읍에서 올라가서 아랏 남방의 유다 황무지에 이르러 그 백성 중에 거하니라
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.17 And Judah went with Simeon, his brother, and overcame the Canaanites living in Zephath, and put it under the curse; and he gave the town the name of Hormah.17 유다가 그 형제 시므온과 함께 가서 스밧에 거한 가나안 사람을 쳐서 그곳을 진멸하였으므로 그 성읍 이름을 호르마라 하니라
18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.18 Then Judah took Gaza and its limit, and Ashkelon and its limit, and Ekron and its limit.18 유다가 또 가사와 그 경내와 아스글론과 그 경내와 에그론과 그 경내를 취하였고
19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he took the hill-country for his heritage; but he was unable to make the people of the valley go out, for they had war-carriages of iron.19 여호와께서 유다와 함께 하신 고로 그가 산지 거민을 쫓아내었으나 골짜기의 거민들은 철병거가 있으므로 그들을 쫓아내지 못하였으며
20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.20 And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he took the land of the three sons of Anak, driving them out from there.20 무리가 모세의 명한대로 헤브론을 갈렙에게 주었더니 그가 거기서 아낙의 세 아들을 쫓아내었고
21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.21 And the children of Judah did not make the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem go out; the Jebusites are still living with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem.21 베냐민 자손은 예루살렘에 거한 여부스 사람을 쫓아내지 못하였으므로 여부스 사람이 베냐민 자손과 함께 오늘날까지 예루살렘에 거하더라
22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.22 And the family of Joseph went up against Beth-el, and the Lord was with them.22 요셉 족속도 벧엘을 치러 올라가니 여호와께서 그와 함께 하시니라
23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)23 So they sent men to make a search round Beth-el. (Now the name of the town in earlier times was Luz.)23 요셉 족속이 벧엘을 정탐케 하였는데 그 성읍의 본 이름은 루스라
24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will show thee mercy.24 And the watchers saw a man coming out of the town, and said to him, If you will make clear to us the way into the town, we will be kind to you.24 탐정이 그 성읍에서 한 사람의 나오는 것을 보고 그에게 이르되 청하노니 이 성읍의 입구를 우리에게 가르치라 그리하면 너를 선대하리라 하매
25 And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.25 So he made clear to them the way into the town, and they put it to the sword; but they let the man and all his family get away safe.25 그 사람이 성읍의 입구를 가르친지라 이에 칼날로 그 성읍을 쳤으되 오직 그 사람과 그 가족을 놓아 보내매
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.26 And he went into the land of the Hittites, building a town there and naming it Luz: which is its name to this day.26 그 사람이 헷 사람의 땅에 가서 성읍을 건축하고 그 이름을 루스라 하였더니 오늘날까지 그곳의 이름이더라
27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.27 And Manasseh did not take away the land of the people of Beth-shean and its daughter-towns, or of Taanach and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Dor and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Ibleam and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Megiddo and its daughter-towns, driving them out; but the Canaanites would go on living in that land.27 므낫세가 벧스안과 그 향리의 거민과 다아낙과 그 향리의 거민과 돌과 그 향리의 거민과 이블르암과 그 향리의 거민과 므깃도와 그 향리의 거민들을 쫓아내지 못하매 가나안 사람이 결심하고 그 땅에 거하였더니
28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.28 And whenever Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced work, without driving them out completely.28 이스라엘이 강성한 후에야 가나안 사람에게 사역을 시켰고 다 쫓아내지 아니하였더라
29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.29 And Ephraim did not make the Canaanites who were living in Gezer go out; but the Canaanites went on living in Gezer among them.29 에브라임이 게셀에 거한 가나안 사람을 쫓아내지 못하매 가나안 사람이 게셀에서 그들 중에 거하였더라
30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.30 Zebulun did not make the people of Kitron or the people of Nahalol go out; but the Canaanites went on living among them and were put to forced work.30 스불론은 기드론 거민과 나할롤 거민을 쫓아내지 못하였으나 가나안 사람이 그들 중에 거하여 사역을 하였더라
31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:31 And Asher did not take the land of the people of Acco, or Zidon, or Ahlab, or Achzib, or Helbah, or Aphik, or Rehob, driving them out;31 아셀이 악고 거민과 시돈 거민과 알랍과 악십과 헬바와 아빅과 르홉 거민을 쫓아내지 못하고
32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.32 But the Asherites went on living among the Canaanites, the people of the land, without driving them out.32 그 땅 거민 가나안 사람 가운데 거하였으니 이는 쫓아내지 못함이었더라
33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.33 Naphtali did not take the land of the people of Beth-shemesh or of Beth-anath, driving them out; but he was living among the Canaanites in the land; however, the people of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath were put to forced work.33 납달리가 벧세메스 거민과 벧아낫 거민을 쫓아내지 못하고 그 땅 거민 가나안 사람 가운데 거하였으나 벧세메스와 벧아낫 거민들이 그들에게 사역을 하였더라
34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:34 And the children of Dan were forced into the hill-country by the Amorites, who would not let them come down into the valley;34 아모리 사람이 단 자손을 산지로 쫓아들이고 골짜기에 내려오기를 용납지 아니하고
35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.35 For the Amorites would go on living in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim; but the children of Joseph became stronger than they, and put them to forced work.35 결심하고 헤레스산과 아얄론과 사알빔에 거하였더니 요셉 족속이 강성하매 아모리 사람이 필경은 사역을 하였으며
36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.36 And the limit of the Edomites went from the slope of Akrabbim from Sela and up.36 아모리 사람의 지계는 아그랍빔 비탈의 바위부터 그 위였더라
