1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordanwestward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heartmelted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.[x]MKJV: And it happened, when all the kings of the Amorites who [were] on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who [were] by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan in front of the sons of Israel until we had passed over, that their hearts melted. 1 Now when the news came to all the kings of the Amorites on the west side of Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites living by the sea, how the Lord had made the waters of Jordan dry before the children of Israel, till they had gone across, their hearts became like water, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.

2 At that time the Lord said to Joshua, Make yourself stone knives and give the children of Israel circumcision a second time.

3 And Joshuamade him sharpknives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.[x]MKJV: And Joshua made sharp knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins. 4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that weremales, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.[x]MKJV: And this [is] the reason why Joshua circumcised. All the people that came out of Egypt, the males, all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the wayside, after they came out of Egypt. BBE: And this is the reason why Joshua did so: all the males of the people who came out of Egypt, all the fighting-men, had been overtaken by death in the waste land on the way, after they came out of Egypt. 4 And this is the reason why Joshua did so: all the males of the people who came out of Egypt, all the fighting-men, had been overtaken by death in the waste land on the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the peoplethat wereborn in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.[x]MKJV: For all the people who came out were circumcised. But all the people born in the wilderness by the wayside, as they came forth out of Egypt, had not been circumcised. 5 All the people who came out had undergone circumcision; but all the people whose birth had taken place in the waste land on their journey from Egypt had not.
5 그 나온 백성은 다 할례를 받았으나 오직 애굽에서 나온 후 광야 노중에서 난 자는 할례를 받지 못하였음이라
6 For the children of Israelwalkedfortyyears in the wilderness, till all the peoplethat weremen of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORDsware that he would not show them the land, which the LORDsware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.[x]MKJV: For the sons of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the people, the men of war, who came out of Egypt, were destroyed, because they did not obey the voice of the LORD. To them the LORD swore that He would not show them the land which the LORD swore to their fathers that He would give us, a land that flows with milk and honey. 7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshuacircumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.[x]MKJV: And Joshua circumcised their sons, [whom] He raised up in their place. For they were not circumcised, because they had not been circumcised by the wayside. BBE: And their children, who came up in their place, now underwent circumcision by the hands of Joshua, not having had it before: for there had been no circumcision on the journey. 7 And their children, who came up in their place, now underwent circumcision by the hands of Joshua, not having had it before: for there had been no circumcision on the journey.

8 And it came to pass, when they had donecircumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.[x]MKJV: And it happened when they had finished circumcising all the people, they stayed in their places in the camp until they were well. 9 And the LORDsaid unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is calledGilgal unto this day.[x]MKJV: And the LORD said to Joshua, Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. Therefore, the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day. BBE: And the Lord said to Joshua, Today the shame of Egypt has been rolled away from you. So that place was named Gilgal, to this day. 10 And the children of Israelencamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenthㆍday of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.[x]MKJV: And the sons of Israel camped in Gilgal and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho. 10 So the children of Israel put up their tents in Gilgal; and they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, in the lowlands of Jericho.

11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parchedcorn in the selfsameday.[x]MKJV: And they ate of the old grain of the land on the next day after the Passover, unleavened cakes and roasted grain in the same day. 12 And the mannaceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israelmanna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.[x]MKJV: And the manna stopped on the next day after they had eaten the old grain of the land. And there was no more manna to the sons of Israel, but they ate the fruit of the land of Canaan that year. BBE: And there was no more manna from the day after they had for their food the produce of the land; the children of Israel had manna no longer, but that year the produce of the land of Canaan was their food. 13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sworddrawn in his hand: and Joshuawent unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?[x]MKJV: And it happened, when Joshua was beside Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked. And, behold, there stood a Man in front of him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, [Are] You for us, or for our foes? BBE: Now when Joshua was near Jericho, lifting up his eyes he saw a man in front of him, with his sword uncovered in his hand: and Joshua went up to him and said, Are you for us or against us? 13 여호수아가 여리고에 가까왔을 때에 눈을 들어본즉 한 사람이 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 마주섰는지라 여호수아가 나아가서 그에게 묻되 너는 우리를 위하느냐 우리의 대적을 위하느냐
14 And he said, Nay; but ascaptain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshuafell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?[x]MKJV: And He said, No, but I have come [as] the Commander of the army of the LORD. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth. And he worshiped and said to Him, What does my Lord say to His servant? BBE: And he said, No; but I have come as captain of the armies of the Lord. Then Joshua, falling down with his face to the earth in worship, said, What has my lord to say to his servant? 15 And the captain of the LORD'Shostsaid unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standestisholy. And Joshuadid so.[x]MKJV: And the Commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, Take your shoe off your foot, for the place on which you stand [is] holy. And Joshua did so. BBE: And the captain of the Lord's army said to Joshua, Take off your shoes from your feet, for the place where you are is holy. And Joshua did so. 15 And the captain of the Lord's army said to Joshua, Take off your shoes from your feet, for the place where you are is holy. And Joshua did so.
