9 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the halftribe of Manassehreturned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.[x]MKJV: And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned. And they departed from the sons of Israel out of Shiloh, which [is] in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, of which they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 10 And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the halftribe of Manassehbuilt there an altar by Jordan, a greataltar to see to.[x]MKJV: And when they came to the borders of Jordan in the land of Canaan, the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar of grand appearance there by Jordan. BBE: Now when they came to the country by Jordan in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh put up there, by Jordan, a great altar, seen from far. 11 And the children of Israelheardsay, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the halftribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.[x]MKJV: And the sons of Israel heard, Behold, the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar opposite the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the sons of Israel. 12 And when the children of Israelheardof it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.[x]MKJV: And when the sons of Israel heard, the whole congregation of the sons of Israel gathered themselves at Shiloh to go to war against them. 14 And with him tenprinces, of eachㆍchiefㆍhouse a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each onewas an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.[x]MKJV: and with him ten rulers, a ruler from each of the chief houses throughout all the tribes of Israel. And each one [was] a head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel. 16 Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trespassis this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?[x]MKJV: So says all the congregation of Jehovah: What trespass [is] this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away today from following Jehovah, in [that] you have built an altar for you so that you might rebel this day against Jehovah? BBE: This is what all the meeting of the people of the Lord has said, What is this wrong which you have done against the God of Israel, turning back this day from the Lord and building an altar for yourselves, and being false to the Lord? 16 This is what all the meeting of the people of the Lord has said, What is this wrong which you have done against the God of Israel, turning back this day from the Lord and building an altar for yourselves, and being false to the Lord?
16 여호와의 온 회중이 말하기를 너희가 어찌하여 이스라엘 하나님께 범죄하여 오늘날 여호와를 좇는데서 떠나서 자기를 위하여 단을 쌓아 여호와를 거역하고자 하느냐
17Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD,[x]MKJV: [Is] the iniquity of Peor [too] little for us, from which we have not been made clean until today? Yea, a plague came on the congregation of Jehovah! BBE: Was not the sin of Baal-peor great enough, from which we are not clear even to this day, though punishment came on the people of the Lord, KAV: 브올의 불법이 우리에게 너무 적은 것이어서 이 날 너희가 {주}를 따르는 일에서 돌이켜야만 하겠느냐? 18 But that ye must turn away this day from following the LORD? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to day against the LORD, that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.[x]MKJV: But must you turn away today from following Jehovah? It shall be, you rebel today against the LORD, and tomorrow He will be angry with all the congregation of Israel. BBE: That now you are turned back from the Lord? and, because you are false to him today, tomorrow his wrath will be let loose on all the people of Israel. 19Notwithstanding, if the land of your possessionbeunclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD'Stabernacledwelleth, and take possessionamong us: but rebel not against the LORD, norrebel against us, in building you an altarbeside the altar of the LORD our God.[x]MKJV: But surely if the land of your possession [is] unclean, pass over to the land of the possession of the LORD in which the LORD's tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us. But do not rebel against the LORD, nor rebel against us in building an altar for yourselves besides the altar of Jehovah our God. BBE: But if the land you now have is unclean, come over into the Lord's land where his House is, and take up your heritage among us: but do not be false to the Lord and to us by building yourselves an altar in addition to the altar of the Lord our God. 19 그런데 너희 소유지가 만일 깨끗지 아니하거든 여호와의 성막이 있는 여호와의 소유지로 건너와 우리 중에서 소유를 취할 것이니라 오직 우리 하나님 여호와의 단 외에 다른 단을 쌓음으로 여호와께 패역하지 말며 우리에게도 패역하지 말라
20 Did not Achan the son of Zerahcommit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrathfell on all the congregation of Israel? and that manperished not alone in his iniquity.[x]MKJV: Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a sin in the cursed thing, and did not wrath fall on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity. BBE: Did not Achan, the son of Zerah, do wrong about the cursed thing, causing wrath to come on all the people of Israel? 20 세라의 아들 아간이 바친 물건에 대하여 범죄하므로 이스라엘 온 회중에 진노가 임하지 아니하였었느냐 그 죄악으로 망한 자가 그 사람 뿐이 아니었느니라

21 Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh said in answer to the heads of the families of Israel,
21 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손과 므낫세 반 지파가 이스라엘 천만인의 두령에게 대답하여 가로되
22 God, even God the Lord, God, even God the Lord, he sees, and Israel will see--if it is in pride or in sin against the Lord,
22 전능하신 자 하나님 여호와, 전능하신 자 하나님 여호와께서 아시나니 이스라엘도 장차 알리라 이 일이 만일 여호와께 패역함이거나 범죄함이거든 주는 오늘날 우리를 구원치 마시옵소서
23 That we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD, or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offerpeaceofferings thereon, let the LORD himself requireit;[x]MKJV: that we have built us an altar to turn from following Jehovah. Or if we have built an altar to offer on it burnt offering or food offering, or if to offer peace offerings on it, let Jehovah Himself require [it]. BBE: That we have made ourselves an altar, being false to the Lord, keep us not safe from death this day; and if for the purpose of offering burned offerings on it and meal offerings, or peace-offerings, let the Lord himself send punishment for it; KAV: 우리가 제단을 쌓은 것이 {주}를 따르는 일에서 돌이키려 함이거나 혹은 그 위에 번제 헌물이나 음식 헌물을 드리려 함이거나 혹은 그 위에 화평 헌물을 드리려 함이거든 {주}께서는 그 일로 인하여 친히 벌하시옵소서. 23 That we have made ourselves an altar, being false to the Lord, keep us not safe from death this day; and if for the purpose of offering burned offerings on it and meal offerings, or peace-offerings, let the Lord himself send punishment for it;
23 우리가 단을 쌓은 것이 돌이켜 여호와를 좇지 아니하려 함이거나 혹시 그 위에 번제나 소제를 드리려 함이거나 혹시 화목제물을 드리려 함이어든 여호와는 친히 벌하시옵소서
24 And if we have not ratherdone it for fear of thisthing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORDGod of Israel?[x]MKJV: And if we have not done it for fear of [this] thing, saying, In time to come your sons might speak to our sons, saying, What have you to do with Jehovah God of Israel? BBE: And if we have not, in fact, done this designedly and with purpose, having in our minds the fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel? 24 And if we have not, in fact, done this designedly and with purpose, having in our minds the fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?
24 우리가 목적이 있어서 주의하고 이같이 하였노라 곧 생각하기를 후일에 너희 자손이 우리 자손에게 말하여 이르기를 너희가 이스라엘 하나님 여호와와 무슨 상관이 있느냐
25 For the LORD hath madeJordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no part in the LORD: so shall your childrenmake our childrenceasefromfearing the LORD.[x]MKJV: For Jehovah has made Jordan a border between us and you, sons of Reuben and sons of Gad. You have no part in Jehovah. And your sons shall make our sons stop fearing Jehovah. BBE: For the Lord has made Jordan a line of division between us and you, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad; you have no part in the Lord: so your children will make our children give up fearing the Lord. 25 너희 르우벤 자손 갓 자손아 여호와께서 우리와 너희 사이에 요단으로 경계를 삼으셨나니 너희는 여호와께 분의가 없느니라 하여 너희 자손이 우리 자손으로 여호와 경외하기를 그치게 할까 하여
26 Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice:[x]MKJV: And we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice, BBE: So we said, Let us now make an altar for ourselves, not for burned offerings or for the offerings of beasts: KAV: 그러므로 우리가 말하기를, 이제 우리가 한 제단을 쌓을 준비를 하자, 하였나니 그것은 번제 헌물이나 희생물을 드리기 위해 세운 것이 아니요,
26 So we said, Let us now make an altar for ourselves, not for burned offerings or for the offerings of beasts:
26 우리가 말하기를 우리가 이제 한 단 쌓기를 예비하자 하였노니 이는 번제를 위함도 아니요 다른 제사를 위함도 아니라
27 But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generationsafter us, that we might do the service of the LORDbefore him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.[x]MKJV: but it shall be a witness between us and you, and our generations after us, so that we might do the service of Jehovah before Him with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings; so that your sons may not say to our sons in time to come, You have no part in Jehovah. BBE: But to be a witness between us and you, and between the future generations, that we have the right of worshipping the Lord with our burned offerings and our offerings of beasts and our peace-offerings; so that your children will not be able to say to our children in time to come, You have no part in the Lord. 27 But to be a witness between us and you, and between the future generations, that we have the right of worshipping the Lord with our burned offerings and our offerings of beasts and our peace-offerings; so that your children will not be able to say to our children in time to come, You have no part in the Lord.
27 우리가 여호와 앞에서 우리 번제와 우리 다른 제사와 우리 화목제로 섬기는 것을 우리와 너희 사이와 우리의 후대 사이에 증거가 되게 할뿐으로서 너희 자손으로 후일에 우리 자손에게 이르기를 너희는 여호와께 분의가 없다 못하게 하려 함이로라
28 Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should sosay to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may sayagain,Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathersmade, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.[x]MKJV: And we said that when they should say so to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say, Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings nor for sacrifices, but it [is] a witness between us and you. BBE: For we said to ourselves, If they say this to us or to future generations, then we will say, See this copy of the Lord's altar which our fathers made, not for burned offerings or offerings of beasts, but for a witness between us and you. KAV: 이런 까닭에 우리가 말하였거니와 만일 그들이 이후에 우리에게나 우리의 세대들에게 그와 같이 말하면 우리가 다시 말하기를, 우리 조상들이 만든 {주}의 제단의 모형을 보라. 그것은 번제 헌물이나 희생물을 드리기 위해 세운 것이 아니요, 다만 우리와 너희 사이에 증거일 뿐이라, 하리라. 28 For we said to ourselves, If they say this to us or to future generations, then we will say, See this copy of the Lord's altar which our fathers made, not for burned offerings or offerings of beasts, but for a witness between us and you.
28 우리가 말하였거니와 만일 그들이 후일에 우리에게나 우리 후대에게 이 같이 말하면 우리가 말하기를 우리 열조가 지은 여호와의 단 모형을 보라 이는 번제를 위한 것도 아니요 다른 제사를 위한 것도 아니라 오직 우리와 너희 사이에 증거만 되게 할뿐이라
29 God forbid that we should rebel against the LORD, and turn this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the LORD our God that isbefore his tabernacle.[x]MKJV: Far be it from us that we should rebel against Jehovah and turn this day from following Jehovah, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for food offerings, or for sacrifices, besides the altar of Jehovah our God that [is] before His tabernacle! BBE: Never let it be said that we were false to the Lord, turning back this day from him and building an altar for burned offerings and meal offerings and offerings of beasts, in addition to the altar of the Lord our God which is before his House. 29 Never let it be said that we were false to the Lord, turning back this day from him and building an altar for burned offerings and meal offerings and offerings of beasts, in addition to the altar of the Lord our God which is before his House.
29 우리가 번제나 소제나 다른 제사를 위하여 우리 하나님 여호와의 성막 앞에 있는 단 외에 단을 쌓음으로 여호와께 패역하고 오늘날 여호와를 좇음에서 떠나려 함은 결단코 아니니라 하리라
30 And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manassehspake, it pleasedㆍ them.[x]MKJV: And Phinehas the priest, and the rulers of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel with him, heard the words that the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the sons of Manasseh spoke. And it was good in their eyes. BBE: Then Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the meeting and the heads of the families of Israel who were with him, hearing what the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh said, were pleased. 30 Then Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the meeting and the heads of the families of Israel who were with him, hearing what the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh said, were pleased.
30 제사장 비느하스와 그와 함께한 회중의 방백 곧 이스라엘 천만인의 두령들이 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손과 므낫세 자손의 말을 듣고 좋게 여긴지라
31 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priestsaid unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORDisamong us, because ye have not committed this trespass against the LORD: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD.[x]MKJV: And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half tribe of Manasseh, Today we see that Jehovah [is] among us, because you have not committed this sin against Jehovah. Now you have delivered the sons of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah. BBE: And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, said to the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh, Now we are certain that the Lord is among us, because you have not done this wrong against the Lord: and you have kept us from falling into the hands of the Lord. 31 And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, said to the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh, Now we are certain that the Lord is among us, because you have not done this wrong against the Lord: and you have kept us from falling into the hands of the Lord.
31 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스가 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손과 므낫세 자손에게 이르되 우리가 오늘날 여호와께서 우리 중에 계신 줄을 아노니 이는 너희가 이 죄를 여호와께 범치 아니하였음이라 너희가 이제 이스라엘 자손을 여호와의 손에서 건져내었느니라 하고
32 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them wordagain.[x]MKJV: And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the rulers, returned from the sons of Reuben, and from the sons of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the sons of Israel, and brought them word again. BBE: Then Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, and the chiefs went back from the land of Gilead, from the children of Reuben and the children of Gad, and came to the children of Israel in Canaan and gave them the news. 32 Then Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, and the chiefs went back from the land of Gilead, from the children of Reuben and the children of Gad, and came to the children of Israel in Canaan and gave them the news.
32 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스와 방백들이 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손을 떠나 길르앗 땅에서 가나안 땅에 돌아와 이스라엘 자손에게 이르러 회보하매
33 And the thingpleasedㆍ the children of Israel; and the children of IsraelblessedGod, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and Gaddwelt.[x]MKJV: And the thing pleased the sons of Israel. And the sons of Israel blessed God and no more said to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land in which the sons of Reuben and Gad lived. BBE: And the children of Israel were pleased about this; and they gave praise to God, and had no more thought of going to war against the children of Reuben and the children of Gad for the destruction of their land. 33 그 일이 이스라엘 자손을 즐겁게 한지라 이스라엘 자손이 하나님을 찬송하고 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손의 거하는 땅에 가서 싸와 그것을 멸하자 하는 말을 다시 하지 아니 하였더라
34 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gadcalled the altarEd: for it shall be a witness between us that the LORDisGod.[x]MKJV: And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad proclaimed regarding the altar, that it [was] a witness between us that Jehovah [is] God. BBE: And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad gave to that altar the name of Ed. For, they said, It is a witness between us that the Lord is God. 34 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad gave to that altar the name of Ed. For, they said, It is a witness between us that the Lord is God.
34 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손이 그 단을 엣이라 칭하였으니 우리 사이에 이 단은 여호와께서 하나님이 되시는 증거라 함이었더라
