1 Then Joshua, the son of Nun, sent two men from Shittim secretly, with the purpose of searching out the land, and Jericho. So they went and came to the house of a loose woman of the town, named Rahab, where they took their rest for the night.

2 And it was said to the king of Jericho, See, some men have come here tonight from the children of Israel with the purpose of searching out the land.

4 And the womantook the twomen, and hid them, and said thus, There camemen unto me, but I wist not whence they were:[x]MKJV: And the woman took the two men and hid them. And she said, Two men came to me, but I did not know from where they came. 4 And the woman took the two men and put them in a secret place; then she said, Yes, the men came to me, but I had no idea where they came from;

5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the menwent I wot not: pursueafter them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.[x]MKJV: And it happened when it was dark, [at the time of] shutting the gate, the men went out. Where the men went I do not know. Go after them quickly, for you shall overtake them. BBE: And when it was the time for shutting the doors at dark, they went out; I have no idea where the men went: but if you go after them quickly, you will overtake them. 5 And when it was the time for shutting the doors at dark, they went out; I have no idea where the men went: but if you go after them quickly, you will overtake them.

10 이는 너희가 애굽에서 나올 때에 여호와께서 너희 앞에서 홍해 물을 마르게 하신 일과 너희가 요단 저편에 있는 아모리 사람의 두 왕 시혼과 옥에게 행한 일 곧 그들을 전멸시킨 일을 우리가 들었음이라
11 And as soon as we had heardthese things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he isGod in heavenabove, and in earth beneath.[x]MKJV: And we had heard, and our hearts melted, nor did any more spirit remain in any man, because of you. For the LORD your God, He is God in Heaven above and in earth beneath. BBE: And the men said to her, Our life for yours if you keep our business secret; and when the Lord has given us the land, we will keep faith and be kind to you. 15 Then she let them down by a cordthrough the window: for her housewas upon the townwall, and she dwelt upon the wall.[x]MKJV: Then she let them go down by a cord through the window. For her house [was] on the town wall, and she lived on the wall. BBE: Then she let them down from the window by a cord, for the house where she was living was on the town wall. And hide yourselves there three days until the pursuers have returned. And afterward you may go your way. BBE: And she said to them, Get away into the hill-country, or the men who have gone after you will overtake you; keep yourselves safe there for three days, till the searchers have come back, and then go on your way. 18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarletthread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father'shousehold, home unto thee.[x]MKJV: Behold, [when] we come into the land, you shall set this line of scarlet thread in the window from which you let us down. And you shall bring your father and your mother, and your brothers, and all your father's household, home to you. 20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.[x]MKJV: And if you tell our business, then we will be free of the oath which you have made us swear to you. BBE: But if you say anything about our business here, then we will be free from the oath you have made us take. 21 And she said, Let it be as you say. Then she sent them away, and they went; and she put the bright red cord in the window.

22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there threedays, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuerssoughtthem throughout all the way, but foundthem not.[x]MKJV: And they went and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days until the pursuers had returned. And the pursuers looked for [them] throughout all the way, but did not find [them]. BBE: And they went into the hill-country and were there three days, till the men who had gone after them had come back; and those who went after them were searching for them everywhere without coming across them. 22 And they went into the hill-country and were there three days, till the men who had gone after them had come back; and those who went after them were searching for them everywhere without coming across them.

23 So the twomenreturned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:[x]MKJV: And the two men returned and came down from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun. And they told him all that happened to them. 23 Then the two men came down from the hill-country and went over and came back to Joshua, the son of Nun; and they gave him a complete account of what had taken place.

24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faintbecause of us.[x]MKJV: And they said to Joshua, Truly the LORD has delivered all the land into our hands, for even all those who live in the country faint because of us. BBE: And they said to Joshua, Truly, the Lord has given all the land into our hands; and all the people of the land have become like water because of us.
