1 Now it came to pass, when Adonizedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;1 Now when it came to the ears of Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, that Joshua had taken Ai, and had given it up to the curse (for as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king); and that the people of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living among them;1 여호수아가 아이를 취하여 진멸하되 여리고와 그 왕에게 행한 것 같이 아이와 그 왕에게 행한 것과 또 기브온 거민이 이스라엘과 화친하여 그 중에 있다함을 예루살렘 왕 아도니세덱이 듣고
2 That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.2 He was in great fear, because Gibeon was a great town, like one of the king's towns, greater than Ai, and all the men in it were men of war.2 크게 두려워하였으니 이는 기브온은 왕도와 같은 큰 성임이요 아이보다 크고 그 사람들은 다 강함이라
3 Wherefore Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,3 So Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, sent to Hoham, king of Hebron, and to Piram, king of Jarmuth, and to Japhia, king of Lachish, and to Debir, king of Eglon, saying,3 예루살렘 왕 아도니세덱이 헤브론 왕 호함과 야르뭇 왕 비람과 라기스 왕 야비아와 에글론 왕 드빌에게 보내어 가로되
4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.4 Come up to me and give me help, and let us make an attack on Gibeon: for they have made peace with Joshua and the children of Israel.4 내게로 올라와 나를 도우라 우리가 기브온을 치자 이는 기브온이 여호수아와 이스라엘 자손으로 더불어 화친하였음이니라 하매
5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.5 So the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, were banded together, and went up with all their armies and took up their position before Gibeon and made war against it.5 이러므로 아모리 다섯 왕 곧 예루살렘 왕과 헤브론 왕과 야르뭇 왕과 라기스 왕과 에글론 왕이 함께 모여 자기들의 모든 군대를 거느리고 올라와서 기브온에 대진하고 싸우니라
6 And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.6 And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the tent-circle at Gilgal, saying, Be not slow to send help to your servants; come up quickly to our support and keep us safe: for all the kings of the Amorites from the hill-country have come together against us.6 기브온 사람들이 길갈 진에 보내어 여호수아에게 전언하되 당신의 종들 돕기를 더디게 마시고 속히 우리에게 올라와서 우리를 구조하소서 산지에 거하는 아모리 사람의 왕들이 다 모여 우리를 치나이다 하매
7 So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.7 So Joshua went up from Gilgal with all his army and all his men of war.7 여호수아가 모든 군사와 용사로 더불어 길갈에서 올라가니라
8 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.8 And the Lord said to Joshua, Have no fear of them, for I have given them into your hands; they will all give way before you.8 때에 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 그들을 두려워 말라 내가 그들을 네 손에 붙였으니 그들의 한 사람도 너를 당할 자 없으리라 하신지라
9 Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.9 So Joshua, having come up from Gilgal all night, made a sudden attack on them.9 여호수아가 길갈에서 밤새도록 올라가서 그들에게 갑자기 이르니
10 And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.10 And the Lord made them full of fear before Israel, and they put great numbers of them to death at Gibeon, and went after them by the way going up to Beth-horon, driving them back to Azekah and Makkedah10 여호와께서 그들을 이스라엘 앞에서 패하게 하시므로 여호수아가 그들을 기브온에서 크게 도륙하고 벧호론에 올라가는 비탈에서 추격하여 아세가와 막게다까지 이르니라
11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.11 And in their flight before Israel, on the way down from Beth-horon, the Lord sent down great stones from heaven on them all the way to Azekah, causing their death: those whose death was caused by the stones were more than those whom the children of Israel put to death with the sword.11 그들이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망하여 벧호론의 비탈에서 내려갈 때에 여호와께서 하늘에서 큰 덩이 우박을 아세가에 이르기까지 내리우시매 그들이 죽었으니 이스라엘 자손의 칼에 죽은 자보다 우박에 죽은 자가 더욱 많았더라
12 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.12 It was on the day when the Lord gave up the Amorites into the hands of the children of Israel that Joshua said to the Lord, before the eyes of Israel, Sun, be at rest over Gibeon; and you, O moon, in the valley of Aijalon.12 여호와께서 아모리 사람을 이스라엘 자손에게 붙이시던 날에 여호수아가 여호와께 고하되 이스라엘 목전에서 가로되 태양아 너는 기브온 위에 머무르라 달아 너도 아얄론 골짜기에 그리할찌어다 하매
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.13 And the sun was at rest and the moon kept its place till the nation had given punishment to their attackers. (Is it not recorded in the book of Jashar?) So the sun kept its place in the middle of the heavens, and was waiting, and did not go down, for the space of a day.13 태양이 머물고 달이 그치기를 백성이 그 대적에게 원수를 갚도록 하였느니라 야살의 책에 기록되기를 태양이 중천에 머물러서 거의 종일토록 속히 내려가지 아니하였다 하지 아니하였느냐
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.14 And there was no day like that, before it or after it, when the Lord gave ear to the voice of a man; for the Lord was fighting for Israel.14 여호와께서 사람의 목소리를 들으신 이 같은 날은 전에도 없었고 후에도 없었나니 이는 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위하여 싸우셨음이니라
15 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.15 And Joshua, with all Israel, went back to the tent-circle at Gilgal.15 여호수아가 온 이스라엘로 더불어 길갈 진으로 돌아왔더라
16 But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.16 But these five kings went in flight secretly to a hole in the rock at Makkedah.16 그 다섯 왕이 도망하여 막게다의 굴에 숨었더니
17 And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.17 And word was given to Joshua that the five kings had been taken in a hole in the rock at Makkedah.17 혹이 여호수아에게 고하여 가로되 막게다의 굴에 그 다섯 왕의 숨은 것을 발견하였나이다
18 And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:18 And Joshua said, Let great stones be rolled against the mouth of the hole, and let men keep watch by it:18 여호수아가 가로되 굴 어귀에 큰 돌을 굴려 막고 사람을 그 곁에 두어 그들을 지키게 하고
19 And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.19 But do you, without waiting, go after their army, attacking them from the back; do not let them get into their towns, for the Lord your God has given them into your hands.19 너희는 지체 말고 너희 대적의 뒤를 따라가 그 후군을 쳐서 그들로 자기들의 성읍에 들어 가지 못하게 하라 너희 하나님 여호와께서 그들을 너희 손에 붙이셨느니라 하고
20 And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.20 Now when Joshua and the children of Israel had come to the end of their war of complete destruction, and had put to death all but a small band who had got safely into the walled towns,20 여호수아와 이스라엘 자손이 그들을 크게 도륙하여 거의 진멸시켰고 그 남은 몇 사람은 견고한 성으로 들어간고로
21 And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.21 All the people went back to Joshua to the tent-circle at Makkedah in peace: and no one said a word against the children of Israel.21 모든 백성이 평안히 막게다 진으로 돌아와 여호수아에게 이르렀으나 혀를 놀려 이스라엘 자손을 대적하는 자가 없었더라
22 Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.22 Then Joshua said, Take away the stones from the mouth of the hole in the rock, and make those five kings come out to me.22 때에 여호수아가 가로되 굴 어귀를 열고 그 굴에서 그 다섯 왕을 내게로 끌어내라 하매
23 And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.23 And they did so, and made those five kings come out of the hole to him, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.23 그들이 그대로 하여 그 다섯 왕 곧 예루살렘 왕과 헤브론 왕과 야르뭇 왕과 라기스 왕과 에글론 왕을 굴에서 그에게로 끌어내니라
24 And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.24 And when they had made those kings come out to Joshua, Joshua sent for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who had gone with him, Come near and put your feet on the necks of these kings. So they came near and put their feet on their necks.24 그 왕들을 여호수아에게로 끌어내매 여호수아가 이스라엘 모든 사람을 부르고 자기와 함께 갔던 군장들에게 이르되 가까이 와서 이 왕들의 목을 발로 밟으라 가까이 와서 그들의 목을 밟으매
25 And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.25 And Joshua said to them, Have no fear and do not be troubled; be strong and take heart: for so will the Lord do to all against whom you make war.25 여호수아가 군장들에게 이르되 두려워말며 놀라지 말고 마음을 강하게 하고 담대히 하라 너희가 더불어 싸우는 모든 대적에게 여호와께서 다 이와 같이 하시리라 하고
26 And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.26 Then Joshua had them put to death, hanging them on five trees, where they were till evening.26 그 후에 여호수아가 그 왕들을 쳐 죽여 다섯 나무에 매어 달고 석양까지 나무에 달린대로 두었다가
27 And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.27 And when the sun went down, they were taken down from the trees, by Joshua's orders, and put into the hole where they had gone to be safe; and great stones were placed at the mouth of the hole, where they are to this day.27 해 질 때에 여호수아가 명하매 그 시체를 나무에서 내리어 그들의 숨었던 굴에 들여던지고 굴 어귀를 큰 돌로 막았더니 오늘날까지 있더라
28 And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.28 That day Joshua took Makkedah, and put it and its king to the sword; every soul in it he gave up to the curse without mercy: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.28 그날에 여호수아가 막게다를 취하고 칼날로 그 성읍과 왕을 쳐서 그 성읍과 그 중에 있는 모든 사람을 진멸하여 한 사람도 남기지 아니하였으니 막게다 왕에게 행한 것이 여리고 왕에게 행한 것과 일반이었더라
29 Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:29 Then Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Makkedah and came to Libnah, and made an attack on it;29 여호수아가 온 이스라엘로 더불어 막게다에서 립나로 나아가서 립나와 싸우매
30 And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.30 And again the Lord gave it and its king into the hands of Israel; and he put it and every person in it to the sword, till their destruction was complete; and he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.30 여호와께서 또 그 성읍과 그 왕을 이스라엘의 손에 붙이신지라 칼날로 그 성읍과 그 중의 모든 사람을 쳐서 멸하여 한 사람도 남기지 아니하였으니 그 왕에게 행한 것이 여리고 왕에게 행한 것과 일반이었더라
31 And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:31 Then Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Libnah to Lachish, and took up their position against it and made an attack on it,31 여호수아가 또 온 이스라엘로 더불어 립나에서 라기스로 나아가서 대진하고 싸우더니
32 And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.32 And the Lord gave Lachish into the hands of Israel, and on the second day he took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword without mercy, as he had done to Libnah.32 여호와께서 라기스를 이스라엘의 손에 붙이신지라 이튿날에 그 성읍을 취하고 칼날로 그것과 그 중의 모든 사람을 쳐서 멸하였으니 립나에 행한 것과 일반이었더라
33 Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.33 Then Horam, king of Gezer, came up to the help of Lachish; and Joshua overcame him and his people, putting all of them to death.33 때에 게셀 왕 호람이 라기스를 도우려고 올라오므로 여호수아가 그와 그 백성을 쳐서 한 사람도 남기지 아니하였더라
34 And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:34 And Joshua and all Israel with him went on from Lachish to Eglon: and they took up their position against it and made an attack on it;34 여호수아가 온 이스라엘로 더불어 라기스에서 에글론으로 나아가서 대진하고 싸워
35 And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.35 And that day they took it, putting it and every person in it to the sword, as he had done to Lachish.35 그 날에 그 성읍을 취하고 칼날로 그것을 쳐서 그 중에 있는 모든 사람을 당일에 진멸하였으니 라기스에 행한 것과 일반이었더라
36 And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:36 And Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron, and made an attack on it;36 여호수아가 또 온 이스라엘로 더불어 에글론에서 헤브론으로 올라가서 싸워
37 And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.37 And took it, overcoming it and putting it and its king and its towns and every person in it to the sword: as he had done to Eglon, he put them all to death, and gave it up to the curse with every person in it.37 그 성읍을 취하고 그것과 그 왕과 그 속한 성읍들과 그 중의 모든 사람을 칼날로 쳐서 하나도 남기지 아니하였으니 그 성읍과 그 중의 모든 사람을 진멸한 것이 에글론에 행한 것과 일반이었더라
38 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:38 And Joshua and all Israel with him went on to make an attack on Debir;38 여호수아가 온 이스라엘로 더불어 돌아와서 드빌에 이르러 싸워
39 And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.39 And he took it, with its king and all its towns: and he put them to the sword, giving every person in it to the curse; all were put to death: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king.39 그 성읍과 그 왕과 그 속한 성읍들을 취하고 칼날로 그 성읍을 쳐서 그 중의 모든 사람을 진멸하고 하나도 남기지 아니하였으니 드빌과 그 왕에게 행한 것이 헤브론에 행한 것과 일반이요 립나와 그 왕에게 행한 것과 일반이었더라
40 So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.40 So Joshua overcame all the land, the hill-country and the South and the lowland and the mountain slopes, and all their kings; all were put to death: and every living thing he gave up to the curse, as the Lord, the God of Israel, had given him orders.40 이와 같이 여호수아가 온 땅 곧 산지와 남방과 평지와 경사지와 그 모든 왕을 쳐서 하나도 남기지 아니하고 무릇 호흡이 있는 자는 진멸하였으니 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 명하신 것과 같았더라
41 And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.41 Joshua overcame them from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen as far as Gibeon.41 여호수아가 또 가데스 바네아에서 가사까지와 온 고센 땅을 기브온에 이르기까지 치매
42 And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.42 And all these kings and their land Joshua took at the same time, because the Lord, the God of Israel, was fighting for Israel.42 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위하여 싸우신고로 여호수아가 이 모든 왕과 그 땅을 단번에 취하니라
43 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.43 Then Joshua and all Israel with him went back to their tents at Gilgal.43 여호수아가 온 이스라엘로 더불어 길갈 진으로 돌아왔더라
