1 Now after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, the word of the Lord came to Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses' helper, saying,

4 곧 광야와 이 레바논에서부터 큰 하수 유브라데에 이르는 헷 족속의 온 땅과 또 해 지는 편 대해까지 너희 지경이 되리라
5 There shall not any man be able to standbefore thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.[x]MKJV: No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.[x]MKJV: Be strong and of good courage. For you shall divide for an inheritance to this people, the land which I swore to their fathers, to give it to them. BBE: Take heart and be strong; for you will give to this people for their heritage the land which I gave by an oath to their fathers. 7 Only be thou strong and verycourageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servantcommanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.[x]MKJV: Only be strong and very courageous so that you may be careful to do according to all the law which My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may act wisely wherever you go. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy wayprosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.[x]MKJV: This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it by day and by night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy Godis with thee whithersoever thou goest.[x]MKJV: Have I not commanded you? 16 And they answeredJoshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.[x]MKJV: And they answered Joshua, saying: We will do all that you command us, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.[x]MKJV: Just as we listened to Moses in all things, so we will listen to you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as He was with Moses. BBE: As we gave attention to Moses in all things, so we will give attention to you: and may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses. 18Whosoeverhe be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.[x]MKJV: Whoever rebels against your command and will not listen to your words in all that you command him, he shall be put to death. Only be strong and of a good courage. BBE: Whoever goes against your orders, and does not give attention to all your words, will be put to death: only take heart and be strong.
