1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

2Arise, go to Nineveh, that greatcity, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come upbefore me.
2 Up! go to Nineveh, that great town, and let your voice come to it; for their evil-doing has come up before me.
2 너는 일어나 저 큰 성읍 니느웨로 가서 그것을 쳐서 외치라 그 악독이 내 앞에 상달하였음이니라 하시니라
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a shipgoing to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
3 And Jonah got up to go in flight to Tarshish, away from the Lord; and he went down to Joppa, and saw there a ship going to Tarshish: so he gave them the price of the journey and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish, away from the Lord.
3 그러나 요나가 여호와의 낯을 피하려고 일어나 다시스로 도망하려 하여 욥바로 내려갔더니 마침 다시스로 가는 배를 만난지라 여호와의 낯을 피하여 함께 다시스로 가려고 선가를 주고 배에 올랐더라

4 But the LORD sent out a greatwind into the sea, and there was a mightytempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
4 And the Lord sent out a great wind on to the sea and there was a violent storm in the sea, so that the ship seemed in danger of being broken.
4 여호와께서 대풍을 바다 위에 내리시매 바다 가운데 폭풍이 대작하여 배가 거의 깨어지게 된지라

5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lightenit of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
5 Then the sailors were full of fear, every man crying to his god; and the goods in the ship were dropped out into the sea to make the weight less. But Jonah had gone down into the inmost part of the ship where he was stretched out in a deep sleep.
5 사공이 두려워하여 각각 자기의 신을 부르고 또 배를 가볍게 하려고 그 가운데 물건을 바다에 던지니라 그러나 요나는 배 밑층에 내려가서 누워 깊이 잠이 든지라

But Jonah had gone down into the hold of the ship; and he lay there, and was fast asleep. 6 So the shipmasterㆍcame to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
6 And the ship's captain came to him and said to him, What are you doing sleeping? Up! say a prayer to your God, if by chance God will give a thought to us, so that we may not come to destruction.
6 선장이 나아가서 그에게 이르되 자는 자여 어찜이뇨 일어나서 네 하나님께 구하라 혹시 하나님이 우리를 생각하사 망하지 않게 하시리라 하니라

7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us castlots, that we may know for whose cause this evilis upon us. So they castlots, and the lotfell upon Jonah.
7 And they said to one another, Come, let us put this to the decision of chance and see on whose account this evil has come on us. So they did so, and Jonah was seen to be the man.
7 그들이 서로 이르되 자 우리가 제비를 뽑아 이 재앙이 누구로 인하여 우리에게 임하였나 알자 하고 곧 제비를 뽑으니 제비가 요나에게 당한지라
8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evilis upon us; What is thine occupation? and whencecomest thou? what is thy country? and of what peopleart thou?
8 Then they said to him, Now make clear to us what is your work, and where you come from? what is your country, and who are your people?
8 무리가 그에게 이르되 청컨대 이 재앙이 무슨 연고로 우리에게 임하였는가 고하라 네 생업이 무엇이며 어디서 왔으며 고국이 어디며 어느 민족에 속하였느냐

9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dryland.
9 And he said to them, I am a Hebrew, a worshipper of the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.
9 그가 대답하되 나는 히브리 사람이요 바다와 육지를 지으신 하늘의 하나님 여호와를 경외하는 자로라 하고
10 Then were the menexceedinglyㆍafraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the menknew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
10 And the men were in great fear, and they said to him, What is this you have done? For the men had knowledge of his flight from the Lord because he had not kept it from them.
10 자기가 여호와의 낯을 피함인줄을 그들에게 고하였으므로 무리가 알고 심히 두려워하여 이르되 네가 어찌하여 이렇게 행하였느냐 하니라
[x]MKJV: Then the men were afraid [with] a great fear. And they said to him, What is this you have done? For the men knew that he was fleeing from before the face of Jehovah, because he had told them. BBE: And the men were in great fear, and they said to him, What is this you have done? 11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the seawrought, and was tempestuous.
11 And they said to him, What are we to do to you so that the sea may become calm for us? For the sea was getting rougher and rougher.
11 바다가 점점 흉용한지라 무리가 그에게 이르되 우리가 너를 어떻게 하여야 바다가 우리를 위하여 잔잔하겠느냐
[x]MKJV: Then they said to him, What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us? For the sea was going on and being stormy. BBE: And they said to him, What are we to do to you so that the sea may become calm for us? For the sea was getting rougher and rougher. 12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this greattempestis upon you.
12 And he said to them, Take me up and put me into the sea, and the sea will become calm for you: for I am certain that because of me this great storm has come on you.
12 그가 대답하되 나를 들어 바다에 던지라 그리하면 바다가 너희를 위하여 잔잔하리라 너희가 이 큰 폭풍을 만난 것이 나의 연고인줄을 내가 아노라 하니라
[x]MKJV: And he said to them, Take me up and throw me out into the sea. And the sea shall be calm to you; for I know that this great storm [has come] on you for my sake. BBE: And he said to them, Take me up and put me into the sea, and the sea will become calm for you: for I am certain that because of me this great storm has come on you. 13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bringit to the land; but they could not: for the seawrought, and was tempestuous against them.
13 And the men were working hard to get back to the land, but they were not able to do so: for the sea got rougher and rougher against them.
13 그러나 그 사람들이 힘써 노를 저어 배를 육지에 돌리고자 하다가 바다가 그들을 향하여 점점 더 흉용하므로 능히 못한지라

14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man'slife, and lay not upon us innocentㆍblood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
14 So, crying to the Lord, they said, Give ear to our prayer, O Lord, give ear, and do not let destruction overtake us because of this man's life; do not put on us the sin of taking life without cause: for you, O Lord, have done what seemed good to you.
14 무리가 여호와께 부르짖어 가로되 여호와여 구하고 구하오니 이 사람의 생명 까닭에 우리를 멸망시키지 마옵소서 무죄한 피를 우리에게 돌리지 마옵소서 주 여호와께서는 주의 뜻대로 행하심이니이다 하고

16 Then great was the men's fear of the Lord; and they made an offering to the Lord and took oaths to him.
17 Now the LORD had prepared a greatfish to swallow upJonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fishthreedays and threenights.
17 And the Lord made ready a great fish to take Jonah into its mouth; and Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.
17 여호와께서 이미 큰 물고기를 예비하사 요나를 삼키게 하셨으므로 요나가 삼일 삼야를 물고기 배에 있으니라
