3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.	3 Jesus said in answer, It was not because of his sin, or because of his father's or mother's; it was so that the works of God might be seen openly in him.	3 예수께서 대답하시되 이 사람이나 그 부모가 죄를 범한 것이 아니라 그에게서 하나님의 하시는 일을 나타내고자 하심이니라

4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.	4 While it is day we have to do the works of him who sent me: the night comes when no work may be done.	4 때가 아직 낮이매 나를 보내신 이의 일을 우리가 하여야 하리라 밤이 오리니 그때는 아무도 일할 수 없느니라

6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed ㆍ the eyes of the blind man with the clay,	6 Having said these words, he put earth, mixed with water from his mouth, on the man's eyes,	6 이 말씀을 하시고 땅에 침을 뱉아 진흙을 이겨 그의 눈에 바르시고

7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, ㆍ (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.	7 And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). 9 Some said ㆍ, This is he ㆍ: others said, He is like him: but he said ㆍ, I am he.	9 Some said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.	9 혹은 그 사람이라 하며 혹은 아니라 그와 비슷하다 하거늘 제 말은 내가 그로라 하니

10 Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?	10 So they said to him, How then were your eyes made open?	10 저희가 묻되 그러면 네 눈이 어떻게 떠졌느냐

11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.	11 His answer was: The man who is named Jesus put earth mixed with water on my eyes, and said to me, Go and make yourself clean in Siloam: so I went away and, after washing, am now able to see.	11 대답하되 예수라 하는 그 사람이 진흙을 이겨 내 눈에 바르고 나더러 실로암에 가서 씻으라 하기에 가서 씻었더니 보게 되었노라

12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.	12 And they said to him, Where is he? His answer was: I have no knowledge.	12 저희가 가로되 그가 어디 있느냐 가로되 알지 못하노라 하니라

13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.	13 They took him before the Pharisees--this man who had been blind.	13 저희가 전에 소경 되었던 사람을 데리고 바리새인들에게 갔더라

14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.	14 Now the day on which the earth was mixed by Jesus and the man's eyes were made open was the Sabbath.	14 예수께서 진흙을 이겨 눈을 뜨게 하신 날은 안식일이라

15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight ㆍ. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.	15 So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see.	15 그러므로 바리새인들도 그 어떻게 보게 된 것을 물으니 가로되 그 사람이 진흙을 내 눈에 바르매 내가 씻고 보나이다 하니

16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.	16 Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them.	16 바리새인 중에 혹은 말하되 이 사람이 안식일을 지키지 아니하니 하나님께로서 온 자가 아니라 하며 혹은 말하되 죄인으로서 어떻게 이러한 표적을 행하겠느냐 하여 피차 쟁론이 되었더니

17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said ㆍ, He is a prophet.	17 Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.	17 이에 소경 되었던 자에게 다시 묻되 그 사람이 네 눈을 뜨게 하였으니 너는 그를 어떠한 사람이라 하느냐 대답하되 선지자니이다 한대

18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.	18 Now the Jews had no belief in the statement that he had been blind and was now able to see, till they sent for the father and mother of the man whose eyes had been made open,	18 유대인들이 저가 소경으로 있다가 보게 된 것을 믿지 아니하고 그 부모를 불러 묻되

19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say ㆍ was born blind? how then doth he now see?	19 And put the question to them, saying, Is this your son, of whom you say that he was blind at birth? how is it then that he is now able to see?	19 이는 너희 말에 소경으로 났다 하는 너희 아들이냐 그러면 지금은 어떻게 되어 보느냐

20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:	20 In answer his father and mother said, We are certain that this is our son and that he was blind at birth:	20 그 부모가 대답하여 가로되 이가 우리 아들인 것과 소경으로 난 것을 아나이다

21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.	21 But how it is he is now able to see, or who made his eyes open, we are not able to say: put the question to him; he is old enough to give an answer for himself.	21 그러나 지금 어떻게 되어 보는지 또는 누가 그 눈을 뜨게 하였는지 우리는 알지 못하나이다 저에게 물어 보시오 저가 장성하였으니 자기 일을 말하리이다

22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.	22 They said this because of their fear of the Jews: for the Jews had come to an agreement that if any man said that Jesus was the Christ he would be put out of the Synagogue.	22 그 부모가 이렇게 말한 것은 이미 유대인들이 누구든지 예수를 그리스도로 시인하는 자는 출교하기로 결의하였으므로 저희를 무서워함이러라

23 Therefore ㆍ said his parents ㆍ, He is of age; ask him.	23 That was the reason why they said, He is old enough; put the question to him.	23 이러므로 그 부모가 말하기를 저가 장성하였으니 저에게 물어 보시오 하였더라

24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.	24 So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner.	24 이에 저희가 소경 되었던 사람을 두번째 불러 이르되 너는 영광을 하나님께 돌리라 우리는 저 사람이 죄인인줄 아노라

25 ㆍ He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.	25 He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see.	25 대답하되 그가 죄인인지 내가 알지 못하나 한 가지 아는 것은 내가 소경으로 있다가 지금 보는 그것이니이다

26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?	26 Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes?	26 저희가 가로되 그 사람이 네게 무엇을 하였느냐 어떻게 네 눈을 뜨게 하였느냐

27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ㆍ ye also be his disciples?	27 His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples?	27 대답하되 내가 이미 일렀어도 듣지 아니하고 어찌하여 다시 듣고자 하나이까 당신들도 그 제자가 되려 하나이까

28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses disciples.	28 And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.	28 저희가 욕하여 가로되 너는 그의 제자나 우리는 모세의 제자라

29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.	29 We are certain that God gave his word to Moses: but as for this man, we have no knowledge where he comes from.	29 하나님이 모세에게는 말씀하신 줄을 우리가 알거니와 이 사람은 어디서 왔는지 알지 못하노라

30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein ㆍ is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.	30 The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes.	30 그 사람이 대답하여 가로되 이상하다 이 사람이 내 눈을 뜨게 하였으되 당신들이 그가 어디서 왔는지 알지 못하는도다

31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.	31 We have knowledge that God does not give ear to sinners, but if any man is a worshipper of God and does his pleasure, to him God's ears are open.	31 하나님이 죄인을 듣지 아니하시고 경건하여 그의 뜻대로 행하는 자는 들으시는 줄을 우리가 아나이다

32 Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.	32 In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open.	32 창세 이후로 소경으로난 자의 눈을 뜨게 하였다 함을 듣지 못하였으니

33 If this man were not of God, he could ㆍ do nothing.	33 If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything.	33 이 사람이 하나님께로부터 오지 아니하였으면 아무 일도 할 수 없으리이다

34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.	34 Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue.	34 저희가 대답하여 가로되 네가 온전히 죄 가운데서 나서 우리를 가르치느냐 하고 이에 쫓아내어 보내니라

35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?	35 It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man?	35 예수께서 저희가 그 사람을 쫓아냈다 하는 말을 들으셨더니 그를 만나사 가라사대 네가 인자를 믿느냐

36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?	36 He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.	36 대답하여 가로되 주여 그가 누구시오니이까 내가 믿고자 하나이다

37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.	37 Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you.	37 예수께서 가라사대 네가 그를 보았거니와 지금 너와 말하는 자가 그이니라

38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.	38 And he said, Lord, I have faith. And he gave him worship.	38 가로되 주여 내가 믿나이다 하고 절하는지라

39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.	39 And Jesus said, I came into this world to be a judge, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.	39 예수께서 가라사대 내가 심판하러 이 세상에 왔으니 보지 못하는 자들은 보게 하고 보는 자들은 소경되게 하려 함이라 하시니

40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are ㆍ we blind also?	40 These words came to the ears of the Pharisees who were with him and they said to him, Are we, then, blind?	40 바리새인 중에 예수와 함께 있던 자들이 이 말씀을 듣고 가로되 우리도 소경인가

41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say ㆍ, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.	41 Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would have no sin: but now that you say, We see; your sin is there still.	41 예수께서 가라사대 너희가 소경 되었더면 죄가 없으려니와 본다고 하니 너희 죄가 그저 있느니라

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
