1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.1 After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.1 그 후에 유대인의 명절이 있어 예수께서 예루살렘에 올라가시니라
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.2 Now in Jerusalem near the sheep-market there is a public bath which in Hebrew is named Beth-zatha. It has five doorways.2 예루살렘에 있는 양문 곁에 히브리 말로 베데스다라 하는 못이 있는데 거기 행각 다섯이 있고
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.3 In these doorways there were a great number of people with different diseases: some unable to see, some without the power of walking, some with wasted bodies.3 그 안에 많은 병자, 소경, 절뚝발이, 혈기 마른 자들이 누워 [물의 동함을 기다리니
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.4 []4 이는 천사가 가끔 못에 내려와 물을 동하게 하는데 동한 후에 먼저 들어가는 자는 어떤 병에 걸렸든지 낫게 됨이러라]
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity ㆍ thirty and eight years.5 One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.5 거기 삼십 팔년 된 병자가 있더라
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?6 When Jesus saw him there on the floor it was clear to him that he had been now a long time in that condition, and so he said to the man, Is it your desire to get well?6 예수께서 그 누운 것을 보시고 병이 벌써 오랜줄 아시고 이르시되 네가 낫고자 하느냐
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while ㆍ I am coming, another steppeth down before me.7 The ill man said in answer, Sir, I have nobody to put me into the bath when the water is moving; and while I am on the way down some other person gets in before me.7 병자가 대답하되 주여 물이 동할 때에 나를 못에 넣어 줄 사람이 없어 내가 가는 동안에 다른 사람이 먼저 내려가나이다
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.8 Jesus said to him, Get up, take your bed and go.8 예수께서 가라사대 일어나 네 자리를 들고 걸어가라 하시니
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.9 And the man became well straight away, and took up his bed and went. Now that day was the Sabbath.9 그 사람이 곧 나아서 자리를 들고 걸어 가니라 이 날은 안식일이니
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.10 So the Jews said to the man who had been made well, It is the Sabbath; and it is against the law for you to take up your bed.10 유대인들이 병 나은 사람에게 이르되 안식일인데 네가 자리를 들고 가는 것이 옳지 아니하니라
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.11 He said to them, But he who made me well, said to me, Take up your bed and go.11 대답하되 나를 낫게 한 그가 자리를 들고 걸어가라 하더라 한대
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?12 Then they put to him the question: Who is the man who said to you, Take it up and go?12 저희가 묻되 너더러 자리를 들고 걸어가라 한 사람이 누구냐 하되
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.13 Now he who had been made well had no knowledge who it was, Jesus having gone away because of the number of people who were in that place.13 고침을 받은 사람이 그가 누구신지 알지 못하니 이는 거기 사람이 많으므로 예수께서 이미 피하셨음이라
14 Afterward ㆍ Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing ㆍ come unto thee.14 After a time Jesus came across him in the Temple and said to him, See, you are well and strong; do no more sin for fear a worse thing comes to you.14 그 후에 예수께서 성전에서 그 사람을 만나 이르시되 보라 네가 나았으니 더 심한 것이 생기지 않게 다시는 죄를 범치 말라 하시니
15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.15 The man went away and said to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.15 그 사람이 유대인들에게 가서 자기를 고친 이는 예수라 하니라
16 And therefore ㆍ did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.16 And for this reason the Jews were turned against Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.16 그러므로 안식일에 이러한 일을 행하신다 하여 유대인들이 예수를 핍박하게 된지라
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto ㆍ, and I work.17 But his answer was: My Father is still working even now, and so I am working.17 예수께서 저희에게 이르시되 내 아버지께서 이제까지 일하시니 나도 일한다 하시매
18 Therefore ㆍ the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.18 For this cause the Jews had an even greater desire to put Jesus to death, because not only did he not keep the Sabbath but he said God was his Father, so making himself equal with God.18 유대인들이 이를 인하여 더욱 예수를 죽이고자 하니 이는 안식일만 범할뿐 아니라 하나님을 자기의 친 아버지라 하여 자기를 하나님과 동등으로 삼으심이러라
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can ㆍ do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever ㆍ he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.19 So Jesus made answer and said, Truly I say to you, The Son is not able to do anything himself; he is able to do only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does the Son does it in the same way.19 그러므로 예수께서 저희에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 아들이 아버지의 하시는 일을 보지 않고는 아무 것도 스스로 할 수 없나니 아버지께서 행하시는 그것을 아들도 그와 같이 행하느니라
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.20 For the Father has love for the Son and lets him see everything which he does: and he will let him see greater works than these so that you may be full of wonder.20 아버지께서 아들을 사랑하사 자기의 행하시는 것을 다 아들에게 보이시고 또 그보다 더 큰 일을 보이사 너희로 기이히 여기게 하시리라
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.21 In the same way, as the Father gives life to the dead, even so the Son gives life to those to whom he is pleased to give it.21 아버지께서 죽은 자들을 일으켜 살리심 같이 아들도 자기의 원하는 자들을 살리느니라
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:22 The Father is not the judge of men, but he has given all decisions into the hands of the Son;22 아버지께서 아무도 심판하지 아니하시고 심판을 다 아들에게 맡기셨으니
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.23 So that all men may give honour to the Son even as they give honour to the Father. He who gives no honour to the Son gives no honour to the Father who sent him.23 이는 모든 사람으로 아버지를 공경하는 것 같이 아들을 공경하게 하려 하심이라 아들을 공경치 아니하는 자는 그를 보내신 아버지를 공경치 아니하느니라
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you ㆍ, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.24 Truly I say to you, The man whose ears are open to my word and who has faith in him who sent me, has eternal life; he will not be judged, but has come from death into life.24 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 내 말을 듣고 또 나 보내신 이를 믿는 자는 영생을 얻었고 심판에 이르지 아니하나니 사망에서 생명으로 옮겼느니라
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you ㆍ, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.25 Truly I say to you, The time is coming, it has even now come, when the voice of the Son of God will come to the ears of the dead, and those hearing it will have life.25 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 죽은 자들이 하나님의 아들의 음성을 들을 때가 오나니 곧 이 때라 듣는 자는 살아나리라
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;26 For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son to have life in himself.26 아버지께서 자기 속에 생명이 있음 같이 아들에게도 생명을 주어 그 속에 있게 하셨고
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.27 And he has given him authority to be judge because he is the Son of man.27 또 인자됨을 인하여 심판하는 권세를 주셨느니라
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,28 Do not be surprised at this: for the time is coming when his voice will come to all who are in the place of the dead,28 이를 기이히 여기지 말라 무덤 속에 있는 자가 다 그의 음성을 들을 때가 오나니
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.29 And they will come out; those who have done good, into the new life; and those who have done evil, to be judged.29 선한 일을 행한 자는 생명의 부활로, 악한 일을 행한 자는 심판의 부활로 나오리라
30 I can of mine own self do nothing ㆍ: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.30 Of myself I am unable to do anything: as the voice comes to me so I give a decision: and my decision is right because I have no desire to do what is pleasing to myself, but only what is pleasing to him who sent me.30 내가 아무 것도 스스로 할 수 없노라 듣는대로 심판하노니 나는 나의 원대로 하려하지 않고 나를 보내신 이의 원대로 하려는고로 내 심판은 의로우니라
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.31 If I gave witness about myself, my witness would not be true.31 내가 만일 나를 위하여 증거하면 내 증거는 참되지 아니하되
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.32 There is another who gives witness about me and I am certain that the witness he gives about me is true.32 나를 위하여 증거하시는 이가 따로 있으니 나를 위하여 증거하시는 그 증거가 참인줄 아노라
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.33 You sent to John and he gave true witness.33 너희가 요한에게 사람을 보내매 요한이 진리에 대하여 증거하였느니라
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.34 But I have no need of a man's witness: I only say these things so that you may have salvation.34 그러나 나는 사람에게서 증거를 취하지 아니하노라 다만 이 말을 하는 것은 너희로 구원을 얻게 하려 함이니라
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.35 He was a burning and shining light, and for a time you were ready to be happy in his light.35 요한은 켜서 비취는 등불이라 너희가 일시 그 빛에 즐거이 있기를 원하였거니와
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish ㆍ, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.36 But the witness which I have is greater than that of John: the work which the Father has given me to do, the very work which I am now doing, is a witness that the Father has sent me.36 내게는 요한의 증거보다 더 큰 증거가 있으니 아버지께서 내게 주사 이루게 하시는 역사 곧 나의 하는 그 역사가 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 나를 위하여 증거하는 것이요
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.37 And the Father himself who sent me has given witness about me. Not one of you has ever given ear to his voice; his form you have not seen.37 또한 나를 보내신 아버지께서 친히 나를 위하여 증거하셨느니라 너희는 아무 때에도 그 음성을 듣지 못하였고 그 형용을 보지 못하였으며
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.38 And you have not kept his word in your hearts, because you have not faith in him whom he has sent.38 그 말씀이 너희 속에 거하지 아니하니 이는 그의 보내신 자를 믿지 아니함이니라
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.39 You make search in the holy Writings, in the belief that through them you get eternal life; and it is those Writings which give witness about me.39 너희가 성경에서 영생을 얻는줄 생각하고 성경을 상고하거니와 이 성경이 곧 내게 대하여 증거하는 것이로다
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.40 And still you have no desire to come to me so that you may have life.40 그러나 너희가 영생을 얻기 위하여 내게 오기를 원하지 아니하는도다
41 I receive not honour from men.41 I do not take honour from men;41 나는 사람에게 영광을 취하지 아니하노라
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.42 But I have knowledge of you that you have no love for God in your hearts.42 다만 하나님을 사랑하는 것이 너희 속에 없음을 알았노라
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.43 I have come in my Father's name, and your hearts are not open to me. If another comes with no other authority but himself, you will give him your approval.43 나는 내 아버지의 이름으로 왔으매 너희가 영접지 아니하나 만일 다른 사람이 자기 이름으로 오면 영접하리라
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another ㆍ, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?44 How is it possible for you to have faith while you take honour one from another and have no desire for the honour which comes from the only God?44 너희가 서로 영광을 취하고 유일하신 하나님께로부터 오는 영광은 구하지 아니하니 어찌 나를 믿을 수 있느냐
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.45 Put out of your minds the thought that I will say things against you to the Father: the one who says things against you is Moses, on whom you put your hopes.45 내가 너희를 아버지께 고소할까 생각지 말라 너희를 고소하는 이가 있으니 곧 너희의 바라는 자 모세니라
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed ㆍ me: for he wrote of me.46 If you had belief in Moses you would have belief in me; for his writings are about me.46 모세를 믿었더면 또 나를 믿었으리니 이는 그가 내게 대하여 기록하였음이라
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?47 If you have no belief in his writings, how will you have belief in my words?47 그러나 그의 글도 믿지 아니하거든 어찌 내 말을 믿겠느냐 하시니라
