11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?	11 The woman said to him, Sir, you have no vessel and the fountain is deep; from where will you get the living water?	11 여자가 가로되 주여 물 길을 그릇도 없고 이 우물은 깊은데 어디서 이 생수를 얻겠삽나이까

12 ㆍ Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof ㆍ himself, and his children, and his cattle?	12 Are you greater than our father Jacob who gave us the fountain and took the water of it himself, with his children and his cattle?	12 우리 조상 야곱이 이 우물을 우리에게 주었고 또 여기서 자기와 자기 아들들과 짐승이 다 먹었으니 당신이 야곱보다 더 크니이까

14 But whosoever ㆍ drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never ㆍ ㆍ thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.	14 But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life.	14 내가 주는 물을 먹는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리니 나의 주는 물은 그 속에서 영생하도록 솟아나는 샘물이 되리라

15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.	15 The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be in need again of drink and will not have to come all this way for it.	15 여자가 가로되 주여 이런 물을 내게 주사 목마르지도 않고 또 여기 물 길러 오지도 않게 하옵소서

16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.	16 Jesus said to her, Go, get your husband and come back here with him.	16 가라사대 가서 네 남편을 불러 오라

17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said ㆍ, I have no husband:	17 In answer, the woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have said rightly, I have no husband:	17 여자가 대답하여 가로되 나는 남편이 없나이다 예수께서 가라사대 네가 남편이 없다 하는 말이 옳도다

18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.	18 You have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband: that was truly said.	18 네가 남편 다섯이 있었으나 지금 있는 자는 네 남편이 아니니 네 말이 참되도다

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.	19 The woman said to him, Sir, I see that you are a prophet.	19 여자가 가로되 주여 내가 보니 선지자로소이다

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.	20 Our fathers gave worship on this mountain, but you Jews say that the right place for worship is in Jerusalem.	20 우리 조상들은 이 산에서 예배하였는데 당신들의 말은 예배할 곳이 예루살렘에 있다 하더이다

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh ㆍ, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.	21 Jesus said to her, Woman, take my word for this; the time is coming when you will not give worship to the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.	21 예수께서 가라사대 여자여 내 말을 믿으라 이 산에서도 말고 예루살렘에서도 말고 너희가 아버지께 예배할 때가 이르리라

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.	22 You give worship, but without knowledge of what you are worshipping: we give worship to what we have knowledge of: for salvation comes from the Jews.	22 너희는 알지 못하는 것을 예배하고 우리는 아는 것을 예배하노니 이는 구원이 유대인에게서 남이니라

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.	23 But the time is coming, and is even now here, when the true worshippers will give worship to the Father in the true way of the spirit, for these are the worshippers desired by the Father.	23 아버지께 참으로 예배하는 자들은 신령과 진정으로 예배할 때가 오나니 곧 이때라 아버지께서는 이렇게 자기에게 예배하는 자들을 찾으시느니라

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.	24 God is Spirit: then let his worshippers give him worship in the true way of the spirit.	24 하나님은 영이시니 예배하는 자가 신령과 진정으로 예배할찌니라

25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.	25 The woman said to him, I am certain that the Messiah, who is named Christ, is coming; when he comes he will make all things clear to us.	25 여자가 가로되 메시야 곧 그리스도라 하는 이가 오실 줄을 내가 아노니 그가 오시면 모든 것을 우리에게 고하시리이다

26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.	26 Jesus said to her, I, who am talking to you, am he.	26 예수께서 이르시되 네게 말하는 내가 그로라 하시니라

27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?	27 At that point the disciples came back, and they were surprised to see him talking to a woman; but not one of them said to him, What is your purpose? or, Why are you talking to her?	27 이 때에 제자들이 돌아와서 예수께서 여자와 말씀하시는 것을 이상히 여겼으나 무엇을 구하시나이까 어찌하여 저와 말씀하시나이까 묻는 이가 없더라

28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,	28 Then the woman put down her water-pot and went into the town, and said to the people,	28 여자가 물동이를 버려두고 동네에 들어가서 사람들에게 이르되

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?	29 Come and see a man who has been talking to me of everything I ever did! Is it possible that this is the Christ?	29 나의 행한 모든 일을 내게 말한 사람을 와 보라 이는 그리스도가 아니냐 하니

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.	30 So they went out of the town and came to him.	30 저희가 동네에서 나와 예수께로 오더라

31 ㆍ In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.	31 While this was taking place, the disciples were saying to Jesus, Master, take some food.	31 그 사이에 제자들이 청하여 가로되 랍비여 잡수소서

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.	32 But he said to them, I have food of which you have no knowledge.	32 가라사대 내게는 너희가 알지 못하는 먹을 양식이 있느니라

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another ㆍ, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?	33 So the disciples said one to another, Did anyone give him food?	33 제자들이 서로 말하되 누가 잡수실 것을 갖다 드렸는가 한대

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.	34 Jesus said, My food is to do the pleasure of him who sent me and to make his work complete.	34 예수께서 이르시되 나의 양식은 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는 이것이니라

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.	35 You would say, Four months from now is the time of the grain-cutting. Take a look, I say to you, at the fields; they are even now white for cutting.	35 너희가 넉 달이 지나야 추수할 때가 이르겠다 하지 아니하느냐 내가 너희에게 이르노니 눈을 들어 밭을 보라 희어져 추수하게 되었도다

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.	36 He who does the cutting now has his reward; he is getting together fruit for eternal life, so that he who did the planting and he who gets in the grain may have joy together.	36 거두는 자가 이미 삯도 받고 영생에 이르는 열매를 모으나니 이는 뿌리는 자와 거두는 자가 함께 즐거워하게 하려 함이니라

37 And herein ㆍ is that saying true ㆍ, One soweth ㆍ, and another reapeth.	37 In this the saying is a true one, One does the planting, and another gets in the grain.	37 그런즉 한 사람이 심고 다른 사람이 거둔다 하는 말이 옳도다

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.	38 I sent you to get in grain which you had no hand in planting: other men did that work, and you take the reward.	38 내가 너희로 노력지 아니한 것을 거두러 보내었노니 다른 사람들은 노력하였고 너희는 그들의 노력한 것에 참예하였느니라

39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified ㆍ, He told me all that ever I did.	39 Now a number of the people of that town had faith in him because of the woman's witness: He has been talking to me of everything I ever did.	39 여자의 말이 그가 나의 행한 모든 것을 내게 말하였다 증거하므로 그 동네 중에 많은 사마리아인이 예수를 믿는지라

40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.	40 So when the people came to him they made request to him to be among them for a time, and he was there two days.	40 사마리아인들이 예수께 와서 자기들과 함께 유하기를 청하니 거기서 이틀을 유하시매

41 And many more believed because of his own word;	41 And a great number more of them came to have faith in him because of what he himself said.	41 예수의 말씀을 인하여 믿는 자가 더욱 많아

42 And said unto the woman ㆍ, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.	42 And they said to the woman, Now we have faith, but not because of your story: we ourselves have given ear to his words, and we are certain that he is truly the Saviour of the world.	42 그 여자에게 말하되 이제 우리가 믿는 것은 네 말을 인함이 아니니 이는 우리가 친히 듣고 그가 참으로 세상의 구주신줄 앎이니라 하였더라

43 Now after two days he departed ㆍ thence, and went into Galilee.	43 And after the two days he went on from there into Galilee.	43 이틀이 지나매 예수께서 거기를 떠나 갈릴리로 가시며

44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.	44 For Jesus himself said that a prophet has no honour in the country of his birth.	44 친히 증거하시기를 선지자가 고향에서는 높임을 받지 못한다 하시고

45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.	45 So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans took him to their hearts because of the things which they had seen him do in Jerusalem at the feast--they themselves having been there at the feast.	45 갈릴리에 이르시매 갈릴리인들이 그를 영접하니 이는 자기들도 명절에 갔다가 예수께서 명절 중 예루살렘에서 하신 모든 일을 보았음이더라

46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.	46 So he came to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain man of high position whose son was ill at Capernaum.	46 예수께서 다시 갈릴리 가나에 이르시니 전에 물로 포도주를 만드신 곳이라 왕의 신하가 있어 그 아들이 가버나움에서 병들었더니

47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.	47 When it came to his ears that Jesus had come from Judaea into Galilee, he went to him and made a request that he would come down to his son, who was near to death, and make him well.	47 그가 예수께서 유대로부터 갈릴리에 오심을 듣고 가서 청하되 내려오셔서 내 아들의 병을 고쳐주소서 하니 저가 거의 죽게 되었음이라

48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.	48 Then Jesus said to him, You will not have faith if you do not see signs and wonders.	48 예수께서 가라사대 너희는 표적과 기사를 보지 못하면 도무지 믿지 아니하리라

49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.	49 The man said, Sir, come down before my boy is dead.	49 신하가 가로되 주여 내 아이가 죽기 전에 내려오소서

50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.	50 And Jesus said, Go in peace; your son is living. The man had faith in the word which Jesus said to him and went away.	50 예수께서 가라사대 가라 네 아들이 살았다 하신대 그 사람이 예수의 하신 말씀을 믿고 가더니

51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying ㆍ, Thy son liveth.	51 And while he was going down, his servants came to him and said, Your boy is living.	51 내려가는 길에서 그 종들이 오다가 만나서 아이가 살았다 하거늘

52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him ㆍ, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.	52 So he put a question to them as to the hour when he became better; and they said to him, The disease went from him yesterday at the seventh hour.	52 그 낫기 시작한 때를 물은즉 어제 제 칠시에 열기가 떨어졌나이다 하는지라

53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him ㆍ, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.	53 It was clear then to the father that this was the very time at which Jesus said to him, Your son is living. And he had faith in Jesus, he and all his family.	53 아비가 예수께서 네 아들이 살았다 말씀하신 그 때인줄 알고 자기와 그 온 집이 다 믿으니라

54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.	54 Now this is the second sign which Jesus did after he had come out of Judaea into Galilee.	54 이것은 예수께서 유대에서 갈릴리로 오신 후 행하신 두 번째 표적이니라

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
