2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;	2 Let it be all joy to you, my brothers, when you undergo tests of every sort;	2 내 형제들아 너희가 여러가지 시험을 만나거든 온전히 기쁘게 여기라

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.	3 Because you have the knowledge that the testing of your faith gives you the power of going on in hope;	3 이는 너희 믿음의 시련이 인내를 만들어 내는줄 너희가 앎이라

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.	4 But let this power have its full effect, so that you may be made complete, needing nothing.	4 인내를 온전히 이루라 이는 너희로 온전하고 구비하여 조금도 부족함이 없게 하려 함이라

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.	5 But if any man among you is without wisdom, let him make his request to God, who gives freely to all without an unkind word, and it will be given to him.	5 너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.	6 Let him make his request in faith, doubting nothing; for he who has doubt in his heart is like the waves of the sea, which are troubled by the driving of the wind.	6 오직 믿음으로 구하고 조금도 의심하지 말라 의심하는 자는 마치 바람에 밀려 요동하는 바다 물결 같으니

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.	7 Let it not seem to such a man that he will get anything from the Lord;	7 이런 사람은 무엇이든지 주께 얻기를 생각하지 말라

8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.	8 For there is a division in his mind, and he is uncertain in all his ways.	8 두 마음을 품어 모든 일에 정함이 없는 자로다

9 ㆍ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:	9 But let the brother of low position be glad that he is lifted up;	9 낮은 형제는 자기의 높음을 자랑하고

10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.	10 But the man of wealth, that he is made low; because like the flower of the grass he will come to his end.	10 부한 형제는 자기의 낮아짐을 자랑할찌니 이는 풀의 꽃과 같이 지나감이라

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.	11 For when the sun comes up with its burning heat, the grass gets dry and the grace of its form is gone with the falling flower; so the man of wealth comes to nothing in his ways.	11 해가 돋고 뜨거운 바람이 불어 풀을 말리우면 꽃이 떨어져 그 모양의 아름다움이 없어지나니 부한 자도 그 행하는 일에 이와 같이 쇠잔하리라

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried ㆍ, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.	12 There is a blessing on the man who undergoes testing; because, if he has God's approval, he will be given the crown of life, which the Lord has said he will give to those who have love for him.	12 시험을 참는 자는 복이 있도다 이것에 옳다 인정하심을 받은 후에 주께서 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 얻을 것임이니라

13 Let no man say when he is tempted ㆍ, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted ㆍ with evil, neither tempteth he ㆍ any man:	13 Let no man say when he is tested, I am tested by God; for it is not possible for God to be tested by evil, and he himself puts no man to such a test:	13 사람이 시험을 받을 때에 내가 하나님께 시험을 받는다 하지 말찌니 하나님은 악에게 시험을 받지도 아니하시고 친히 아무도 시험하지 아니하시느니라

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.	14 But every man is tested when he is turned out of the right way by the attraction of his desire.	14 오직 각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.	15 Then when its time comes, desire gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is of full growth, gives birth to death.	15 욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라

16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.	16 Do not be turned from the right way, dear brothers.	16 내 사랑하는 형제들아 속지 말라

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.	17 Every good and true thing is given to us from heaven, coming from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change or any shade made by turning.	17 각양 좋은 은사와 온전한 선물이 다 위로부터 빛들의 아버지께로서 내려오나니 그는 변함도 없으시고 회전하는 그림자도 없으시니라

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.	18 Of his purpose he gave us being, by his true word, so that we might be, in a sense, the first-fruits of all the things which he had made.	18 그가 그 조물 중에 우리로 한 첫 열매가 되게 하시려고 자기의 뜻을 좇아 진리의 말씀으로 우리를 낳으셨느니라

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:	19 You have knowledge of this, dear brothers. But let every man be quick in hearing, slow in words, slow to get angry;	19 내 사랑하는 형제들아 너희가 알거니와 사람마다 듣기는 속히 하고 말하기는 더디 하며 성내기도 더디 하라

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.	20 For the righteousness of God does not come about by the wrath of man.	20 사람의 성내는 것이 하나님의 의를 이루지 못함이니라

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.	21 For this reason, putting away all dirty behaviour and the overweight of evil, take into your souls without pride the word which, being planted there, is able to give you salvation.	21 그러므로 모든 더러운 것과 넘치는 악을 내어 버리고 능히 너희 영혼을 구원할바 마음에 심긴 도를 온유함으로 받으라

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.	22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers of it, blinding yourselves with false ideas.	22 너희는 도를 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지말라

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:	23 Because if any man is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a glass;	23 누구든지 도를 듣고 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 생긴 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같으니

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.	24 For after looking at himself he goes away, and in a short time he has no memory of what he was like.	24 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모양이 어떠한 것을 곧 잊어버리거니와

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.	25 But he who goes on looking into the true law which makes him free, being not a hearer without memory but a doer putting it into effect, this man will have a blessing on his acts.	25 자유하게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실행하는 자니 이 사람이 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.	26 If a man seems to have religion and has no control over his tongue but lets himself be tricked by what is false, this man's religion is of no value.	26 누구든지 스스로 경건하다 생각하며 자기 혀를 재갈 먹이지 아니하고 자기 마음을 속이면 이 사람의 경건은 헛것이라

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.	27 The religion which is holy and free from evil in the eyes of our God and Father is this: to take care of children who have no fathers and of widows who are in trouble, and to keep oneself untouched by the world.	27 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌아보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 이것이니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
