The superior worth and dignity of Christ above Moses is shown. (1-6) The Hebrews are warned of the sin and danger of unbelief. (7-13) And of necessity of faith in Christ, and of stedfastly following him. (14-19)

| 1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; | 1 For this reason, holy brothers, marked out to have a part in heaven, give thought to Jesus the representative and high priest of our faith; | 1 그러므로 함께 하늘의 부르심을 입은 거룩한 형제들아 우리의 믿는 도리의 사도시며 대제사장이신 예수를 깊이 생각하라 |
| 2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. | 2 Who kept faith with God who gave him his place, even as Moses did in all his house.
| 3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. | 3 And it was right for this man to have more honour than Moses, even as the builder of a house has more honour than the house.
| 4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. | 4 For every house has a builder; but the builder of all things is God. | 4
| 5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; | 5 And Moses certainly kept faith as a servant, in all his house, and as a witness of those things which were to be said later; | 5 또한 모세는 장래에 말할 것을 증거하기 위하여 하나님의 온집에서 사환으로 충성하였고 |
| 6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. | 6 But Christ as a son, over his house; whose house are we, if we keep our hearts fixed in the glad and certain hope till the end.
| 7 Wherefore ㆍ (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, | 7 And so, as the Holy Spirit says, Today if you let his voice come to your ears, | 7 그러므로 성령이 이르신 바와 같이 오늘날 너희가 그의 음성을 듣거든 |
| 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: | 8 Be not hard of heart, as when you made me angry, on the day of testing in the waste land, | 8 노하심을 격동하여 광야에서 시험하던 때와 같이 너희 마음을 강퍅케 하지 말라 |
| 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. | 9 When your fathers put me to the test, and saw my works for forty years.
| 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. | 10 So that I was angry with this generation, and I said, Their hearts are in error at all times, and they have no knowledge of my ways; | 10 그러므로 내가 이 세대를 노하여 가로되 저희가 항상 마음이 미혹되어 내 길을 알지 못하는도다 하였고 |
| 11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) | 11 And being angry I made an oath, saying, They may not come into my rest. | 11
| 12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. | 12 My brothers, take care that there is not by chance in any one of you an evil heart without belief, turning away from the living God: | 12 형제들아 너희가 삼가 혹 너희 중에 누가 믿지 아니하는 악심을 품고 살아 계신 하나님에게서 떨어질까 염려할 것이요 |
| 13 But exhort one another daily, ㆍ ㆍ, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. | 13 But give comfort to one another every day as long as it is still Today; so that no one among you may be made hard by the deceit of sin: | 13 오직 오늘이라 일컫는 동안에 매일 피차 권면하여 너희 중에 누구든지 죄의 유혹으로 강퍅케 됨을 면하라 |
| 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; | 14 For if we keep the substance of the faith which we had at the start, even till the end, we have a part with Christ; | 14 우리가 시작할 때에 확실한 것을 끝까지 견고히 잡으면 그리스도와 함께 참예한 자가 되리라 |
| 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. | 15 As it is said, Today if you will let his voice come to your ears, be not hard of heart, as when you made him angry.
| 16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. | 16 Who made him angry when his voice came to them? was it not all those who came out of Egypt with Moses?
| 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? | 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? was it not with those who did evil, who came to their deaths in the waste land?
| 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? | 18 And to whom did he make an oath that they might not come into his rest? was it not to those who went against his orders?
| 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. | 19 So we see that they were not able to go in because they had no belief. | 19
