1 Now after these things, word came to Joseph that his father was ill: and he took with him his sons Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 And when they said to Jacob, Your son Joseph is coming to see you: then Israel, getting all his strength together, had himself lifted up in his bed.

5 And now thy twosons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egyptbefore I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.[x]MKJV: And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who are born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you into Egypt, [are] mine; like Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. BBE: And now your two sons who came to birth in Egypt before I came to you here, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, in the same way as Reuben and Simeon are. 6 And thy issue, which thou begettestafter them, shall be thine, and shall be calledafter the name of their brethren in their inheritance.[x]MKJV: And your issue, which you father after them, shall be yours, and shall be called after the name of their brothers in their inheritance. 6 And any other offspring which you have after them, will be yours, and will be named after their brothers in their heritage.

7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Racheldied by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a littleway to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same isBethlehem.[x]MKJV: And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died beside me in the land of Canaan in the way, when [there was] still but a little way to come to Ephrath. 8 And IsraelbeheldJoseph'ssons, and said, Who are these?[x]MKJV: And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who [are] these? BBE: Then Israel, looking at Joseph's sons, said, Who are these? KAV: 이스라엘이 요셉의 아들들을 보고 이르되, 이들은 누구냐? 하니
8 Then Israel, looking at Joseph's sons, said, Who are these?

9 And Josephsaid unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.[x]MKJV: And Joseph said to his father, They [are] my sons, whom God has given me in this [place]. And he said, please bring them to me, and I will bless them. BBE: And Joseph said to his father, They are my sons, whom God has given me in this land. 9 And Joseph said to his father, They are my sons, whom God has given me in this land. And he said, Let them come near me, and I will give them a blessing.

10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.[x]MKJV: And the eyes of Israel were dim for age; he could not see. And he brought them near him, and he kissed them and embraced them. BBE: Now because Israel was old, his eyes were no longer clear, and he was not able to see. So he made them come near to him, and he gave them a kiss, folding them in his arms. 10 Now because Israel was old, his eyes were no longer clear, and he was not able to see. So he made them come near to him, and he gave them a kiss, folding them in his arms.
10 이스라엘의 눈이 나이로 인하여 어두워서 보지 못하더라 요셉이 두 아들을 이끌어 아비 앞으로 나아가니 이스라엘이 그들에게 입맞추고 그들을 안고
11 And Israelsaid unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath showed me also thy seed.[x]MKJV: And Israel said to Joseph, I had not thought I would see your face, and, lo, God has showed me also your seed. BBE: And Israel said to Joseph, I had no hope of seeing your face again, but God in his mercy has let me see you and your children. 11 And Israel said to Joseph, I had no hope of seeing your face again, but God in his mercy has let me see you and your children.

12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.[x]MKJV: And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed his face to the earth. BBE: Then Joseph took them from between his knees, and went down on his face to the earth. 12 Then Joseph took them from between his knees, and went down on his face to the earth.

13 And Josephtook them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought themnear unto him.[x]MKJV: And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left toward Israel's right hand. And he brought [them] near to him. BBE: Then taking Ephraim with his right hand, Joseph put him at Israel's left side, and with his left hand he put Manasseh at Israel's right side, placing them near him. 13 Then taking Ephraim with his right hand, Joseph put him at Israel's left side, and with his left hand he put Manasseh at Israel's right side, placing them near him.

14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laidit upon Ephraim'shead, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh'shead, guiding his handswittingly; for Manassehwas the firstborn.[x]MKJV: And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid [it] on Ephraim's head, who [was] the younger, and his left on Manasseh's head, crossing his hands. For Manasseh [was] the first-born. BBE: And Israel, stretching out his right hand, put it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left hand on the head of Manasseh, crossing his hands on purpose, for Manasseh was the older. 14 이스라엘이 우수를 펴서 차자 에브라임의 머리에 얹고 좌수를 펴서 므낫세의 머리에 얹으니 므낫세는 장자라도 팔을 어긋맞겨 얹었더라
15 And he gave Joseph a blessing, saying, May the God to whom my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, gave worship, the God who has taken care of me all my life till this day,
15 그가 요셉을 위하여 축복하여 가로되 내 조부 아브라함과 아버지 이삭의 섬기던 하나님, 나의 남으로부터 지금까지 나를 기르신 하나님,
16 The angel who has been my saviour from all evil, send his blessing on these children: and let my name and the name of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, be given to them; and let them become a great nation in the earth.
16 나를 모든 환난에서 건지신 사자께서 이 아이에게 복을 주시오며 이들로 내 이름과 내 조부 아브라함과 아버지 이삭의 이름으로 칭하게 하시오며 이들로 세상에서 번식되게 하시기를 원하나이다
17 And when Josephsaw that his fatherlaid his righthand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeasedㆍ him: and he held up his father'shand, to remove it from Ephraim'shead unto Manasseh'shead.[x]MKJV: And Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it was evil in his eyes. And he held up his father's hand to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. BBE: Now when Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it did not seem right to him; and lifting his father's hand he would have put it on the head of Manasseh. 17 Now when Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it did not seem right to him; and lifting his father's hand he would have put it on the head of Manasseh.
17 요셉이 그 아비가 우수를 에브라임의 머리에 얹은 것을 보고 기뻐 아니하여 아비의 손을 들어 에브라임의 머리에서 므낫세의 머리로 옮기고자 하여
18 And Josephsaid unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.[x]MKJV: And Joseph said to his father, Not so, my father. For this [is] the first-born. Put your right hand on his head. BBE: And Joseph said to his father, Not so, my father, for this is the older; put your right hand on his head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, Not so, my father, for this is the older; put your right hand on his head.

19 And his fatherrefused, and said, I knowit, my son, I knowit: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his youngerbrother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.[x]MKJV: And his father refused and said, I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great, but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he is, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. BBE: But his father would not, saying, I am doing it on purpose, my son; he will certainly become a nation and a great one; but his younger brother will be greater than he, and his seed will become a great family of nations. 19 But his father would not, saying, I am doing it on purpose, my son; he will certainly become a nation and a great one; but his younger brother will be greater than he, and his seed will become a great family of nations.
19 아비가 허락지 아니하여 가로되 나도 안다 내 아들아 나도 안다 그도 한 족속이 되며 그도 크게 되려니와 그 아우가 그보다 큰 자가 되고 그 자손이 여러 민족을 이루리라 하고
20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israelbless, saying, Godmake thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he setEphraimbeforeManasseh.[x]MKJV: And he blessed them that day, saying, In you shall Israel bless, saying, God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh. And he put Ephraim before Manasseh. BBE: So he gave them his blessing that day, saying, You will be the sign of blessing in Israel, for they will say, May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh; and he put Ephraim before Manasseh. KAV: 그 날 그들을 축복하며 이르되, 네 안에서 이스라엘이 축복하여 말하기를, [하나님]께서 너를 에브라임 같고 므낫세 같게 하시리라, 하리라, 하여 에브라임을 므낫세보다 앞에 두었더라. 20 So he gave them his blessing that day, saying, You will be the sign of blessing in Israel, for they will say, May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh; and he put Ephraim before Manasseh.
20 그 날에 그들에게 축복하여 가로되 이스라엘 족속이 너로 축복하기를 하나님이 너로 에브라임 같고 므낫세 같게 하시리라 하리라 하여 에브라임을 므낫세보다 앞세웠더라
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, Now my death is near; but God will be with you, guiding you back to the land of your fathers.
21 이스라엘이 요셉에게 또 이르되 나는 죽으나 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시사 너희를 인도하여 너희 조상의 땅으로 돌아가게 하시려니와
22 Moreover I have given to thee oneportion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.[x]MKJV: And I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow. BBE: And I have given you more than your brothers, even Shechem as your heritage, which I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow. KAV: 또한 내가 네게 네 형제들보다 한 몫을 더 주었나니 그것은 내가 내 칼과 내 활로 아모리 족속의 손에서 빼앗은 것이니라, 하였더라. 22 And I have given you more than your brothers, even Shechem as your heritage, which I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.
