1 Now the serpentwas more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORDGod had made. 1 Now the snake was wiser than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, Has God truly said that you may not take of the fruit of any tree in the garden?

3 But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God has said, If you take of it or put your hands on it, death will come to you.

4 And the snake said, Death will not certainly come to you:
5 For God sees that on the day when you take of its fruit, your eyes will be open, and you will be as gods, having knowledge of good and evil.

6 And when the womansaw that the treewasgood for food, and that itwaspleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make onewise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gavealso unto her husband with her; and he did eat.[x]MKJV: And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make wise, she took of its fruit, and ate. Have you eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat? BBE: And he said, Who gave you the knowledge that you were without clothing? Have you taken of the fruit of the tree which I said you were not to take? 12 And the mansaid, The woman whom thou gavestto be with me, shegave me of the tree, and I did eat.[x]MKJV: And the man said, The woman whom You gave [to be] with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate. BBE: And the Lord God said to the woman, What have you done? And the woman said, I was tricked by the deceit of the snake and I took it. 14 And the LORDGodsaid unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou artcursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:[x]MKJV: And the LORD God said to the serpent, Because you have done this you [are] cursed more than all cattle, and more than every animal of the field. You shall go upon your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And there will be war between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed: by him will your head be crushed and by you his foot will be wounded.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatlymultiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forthchildren; and thy desireshall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.[x]MKJV: To the woman He said, I will greatly increase your sorrow and your conception. In pain you shall bear sons, and your desire shall be toward your husband, and he shall rule over you. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursedis the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eatof it all the days of thy life;[x]MKJV: And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat [of] it! The ground [is] cursed for your sake. In pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Thorns and waste plants will come up, and the plants of the field will be your food;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eatbread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dustthouart, and unto dust shalt thou return.[x]MKJV: In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you [are], and to dust you shall return.
