1 Then Jacob went on his journey till he came to the land of the children of the East.

2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there werethreeflocks of sheeplying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a greatstonewas upon the well'smouth.[x]MKJV: And he looked, and behold, a well [was] in the field! And, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it, for they watered the flocks out of that well. And a great stone [was] upon the well's mouth. 2 And there he saw a water-hole in a field, and by the side of it three flocks of sheep, for there they got water for the sheep: and on the mouth of the water-hole there was a great stone.
2 본즉 들에 우물이 있고 그 곁에 양 세 떼가 누웠으니 이는 목자들이 그 우물에서 물을 양떼에게 먹임이라 큰 돌로 우물 아구를 덮었다가
3 And thither were all the flocksgathered: and they rolled the stone from the well'smouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stoneagain upon the well'smouth in his place.[x]MKJV: And all the flocks were gathered there. 3 And all the flocks would come together there, and when the stone had been rolled away, they would give the sheep water, and put the stone back again in its place on the mouth of the water-hole.
3 모든 떼가 모이면 그들이 우물 아구에서 돌을 옮기고 양에게 물을 먹이고는 여전히 우물 아구 그 자리에 돌을 덮더라
4 And Jacobsaid unto them, My brethren, whencebe ye? And they said, Of Haranare we.[x]MKJV: And Jacob said to them, My brothers, where [are] you from? And they said, We [are] from Haran. 5 And he said to them, Have you any knowledge of Laban, the son of Nahor? And they said, We have.

6 And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He iswell: and, behold, Rachel his daughtercometh with the sheep.[x]MKJV: And he said to them, [Is] he well? And they said, He [is] well. 6 And he said to them, Is he well? And they said, He is well, and here is Rachel his daughter coming with the sheep.

7 And he said, Lo, it is yet highday, neither is ittime that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and goandfeedthem.[x]MKJV: And he said, Lo, the day [is] yet high. [It is] not yet time for gathering the cattle together. Water the sheep, and go feed [them]. BBE: Then Jacob said, The sun is still high and it is not time to get the cattle together: get water for the sheep and go and give them their food. KAV: 야곱이 이르되, 보라, 아직 한낮인즉 가축이 함께 모일 때가 아니니 너희는 먼저 양들에게 물을 먹이고 가서 먹게 하라, 하매
7 Then Jacob said, The sun is still high and it is not time to get the cattle together: get water for the sheep and go and give them their food.

8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well'smouth; then we water the sheep.[x]MKJV: And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered together. 14 And Labansaid to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.[x]MKJV: And Laban said to him, Surely you [are] my bone and my flesh. And he stayed with him for a month. BBE: And Laban said to him, Truly, you are my bone and my flesh. And he kept Jacob with him for the space of a month. 14 And Laban said to him, Truly, you are my bone and my flesh. And he kept Jacob with him for the space of a month.

15 And Labansaid unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wagesbe?[x]MKJV: And Laban said to Jacob, Because you [are] my brother, should you then serve me for nothing? Tell me, what [shall be] your wages? BBE: Then Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my brother are you to be my servant for nothing? say now, what is your payment to be? 15 Then Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my brother are you to be my servant for nothing? say now, what is your payment to be?
15 라반이 야곱에게 이르되 네가 비록 나의 생질이나 어찌 공으로 내 일만 하겠느냐 무엇이 네 보수겠느냐 내게 고하라
16 And Laban had twodaughters: the name of the elderwasLeah, and the name of the youngerwasRachel.[x]MKJV: And Laban had two daughters. 26 And Labansaid, It must not be so done in our country, to give the youngerbefore the firstborn.[x]MKJV: And Laban said, It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the first-born. BBE: And Laban said, In our country we do not let the younger daughter be married before the older. KAV: 라반이 이르되, 우리 지방에서는 이처럼 맏딸보다 작은딸을 먼저 주는 일을 결코 하지 아니하느니라.
26 And Laban said, In our country we do not let the younger daughter be married before the older.

27Fulfilherweek, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet sevenotheryears.[x]MKJV: Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you shall serve with me still another seven years. BBE: Let the week of the bride-feast come to its end and then we will give you the other in addition, if you will be my servant for another seven years. 32 레아가 잉태하여 아들을 낳고 그 이름을 르우벤이라 하여 가로되 여호와께서 나의 괴로움을 권고하셨으니 이제는 내 남편이 나를 사랑하리로다 하였더라
33 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I washated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his nameSimeon.[x]MKJV: And she conceived again, and bore a son, and said, Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, He has therefore given me this [son] also. And she called his name Simeon. BBE: Then she became with child again, and gave birth to a son; and said, Because it has come to the Lord's ears that I am not loved, he has given me this son in addition: and she gave him the name Simeon. 33 Then she became with child again, and gave birth to a son; and said, Because it has come to the Lord's ears that I am not loved, he has given me this son in addition: and she gave him the name Simeon.
33 그가 다시 잉태하여 아들을 낳고 가로되 여호와께서 나의 총이 없음을 들으셨으므로 내게 이도 주셨도다 하고 그 이름을 시므온이라 하였으며
34 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him threesons: therefore was his namecalledLevi.[x]MKJV: And she conceived again, and bore a son, and said, Now this time my husband will return to me, because I have borne him three sons. Therefore his name was called Levi. BBE: And she was with child again, and gave birth to a son; and said, Now at last my husband will be united to me, because I have given him three sons: so he was named Levi. 34 And she was with child again, and gave birth to a son; and said, Now at last my husband will be united to me, because I have given him three sons: so he was named Levi.
34 그가 또 잉태하여 아들을 낳고 가로되 내가 그에게 세 아들을 낳았으니 내 남편이 지금부터 나와 연합하리로다 하고 그 이름을 레위라 하였으며
35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his nameJudah; and leftbearing.[x]MKJV: And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said, This time I will praise the LORD. Therefore she called his name Judah, and quit bearing. BBE: And she was with child again, and gave birth to a son: and she said, This time I will give praise to the Lord: so he was named Judah; after this she had no more children for a time. 35 And she was with child again, and gave birth to a son: and she said, This time I will give praise to the Lord: so he was named Judah; after this she had no more children for a time.
35 그가 또 잉태하여 아들을 낳고 가로되 내가 이제는 여호와를 찬송하리로다 하고 이로 인하여 그가 그 이름을 유다라 하였고 그의 생산이 멈추었더라
