1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord came to him, and said, I am God, Ruler of all; go in my ways and be upright in all things,

6 And I will make thee exceedingㆍfruitful, and I will makenations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.[x]MKJV: And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, greatly so, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you. 13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlastingcovenant.[x]MKJV: He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your silver, must be circumcised. And My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. BBE: He who comes to birth in your house and he who is made yours for a price, all are to undergo circumcision; so that my agreement may be marked in your flesh, an agreement for all time. 14 And the uncircumcised man childwhoseflesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.[x]MKJV: And the uncircumcised male child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant. 15 And Godsaid unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her nameSarai, butSarahshall her namebe.[x]MKJV: And God said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name [shall be] Sarah. 17 Then Abrahamfell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundredyearsold? and shall Sarah, that is ninetyyearsold, bear?[x]MKJV: And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born to him that is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear? BBE: Then Abraham went down on his face, and laughing, said in his heart, May a man a hundred years old have a child? will Sarah, at ninety years old, give birth? 18 And Abrahamsaid unto God, O thatIshmael might live before thee![x]MKJV: And Abraham said to God, Oh that Ishmael might live before You! 18 And Abraham said to God, If only Ishmael's life might be your care!

19 And Godsaid, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a sonindeed; and thou shalt call his nameIsaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlastingcovenant, and with his seed after him.[x]MKJV: And God said, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed. And you shall call his name Isaac. And I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. BBE: And God said, Not so; but Sarah, your wife, will have a son, and you will give him the name Isaac, and I will make my agreement with him for ever and with his seed after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedinglyㆍ; twelveㆍprinces shall he beget, and I will make him a greatnation.[x]MKJV: And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. BBE: As for Ishmael, I have given ear to your prayer: truly I have given him my blessing and I will make him fertile and give him great increase; he will be the father of twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation. 20 이스마엘에게 이르러는 내가 네 말을 들었나니 내가 그에게 복을 주어 생육이 중다하여 그로 크게 번성케 할찌라 그가 열 두 방백을 낳으리니 내가 그로 큰 나라가 되게 하려니와
21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the nextyear.[x]MKJV: But I will establish My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time in the next year. 26 In the selfsameday was Abrahamcircumcised, and Ishmael his son.[x]MKJV: In the same day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised.
