1 After these things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Have no fear, Abram: I will keep you safe, and great will be your reward.

2 And Abram said, What will you give me? for I have no child and this Eliezer of Damascus will have all my wealth after me.

3 And Abram said, You have given me no child, and a servant in my house will get the heritage.
3 아브람이 또 가로되 주께서 내게 씨를 아니주셨으니 내 집에서 길리운 자가 나의 후사가 될것이니이다
4 And, behold, the word of the LORDcame unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.[x]MKJV: And behold, the word of the LORD [came] to him saying, This one shall not be your heir. But he that shall come forth out of your own bowels shall be your heir. BBE: Then said the Lord, This man will not get the heritage, but a son of your body will have your property after you. 4 Then said the Lord, This man will not get the heritage, but a son of your body will have your property after you.

5 And he brought him forthabroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.[x]MKJV: And He brought him outside and said, Look now toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them. And He said to him, So shall your seed be. BBE: And he took him out into the open air, and said to him, Let your eyes be lifted to heaven, and see if the stars may be numbered; even so will your seed be. 7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.[x]MKJV: And He said to him, I [am] the LORD that brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it. 8 And he said, O Lord God, how may I be certain that it will be mine?

10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laideachpiece one againstanother: but the birdsdivided he not.[x]MKJV: And he took all these to himself, and divided them in the middle, and laid each piece against one another; but he did not divide the birds. 10 All these he took, cutting them in two and putting one half opposite the other, but not cutting the birds in two.
10 아브람이 그 모든 것을 취하여 그 중간을 쪼개고 그 쪼갠 것을 마주 대하여 놓고 그 새는 쪼개지 아니하였으며
11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.[x]MKJV: And when the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleepfell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of greatdarknessfell upon him.[x]MKJV: And it happened as the sun was setting, and a deep sleep fell upon Abram. 12 Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep came on Abram, and a dark cloud of fear.

13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a landthat is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them fourhundredyears;[x]MKJV: And He said to Abram, You must surely know that your seed shall be a stranger in a land not theirs, and shall serve them. And they shall afflict them four hundred years. 13 And he said to Abram, Truly, your seed will be living in a land which is not theirs, as servants to a people who will be cruel to them for four hundred years;

15 As for you, you will go to your fathers in peace; at the end of a long life you will be put in your last resting-place.
15 너는 장수하다가 평안히 조상에게로 돌아가 장사될 것이요
16 But in the fourthgeneration they shall come hitheragain: for the iniquity of the Amoritesis not yetfull.[x]MKJV: But in the fourth generation they shall come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full. 17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smokingfurnace, and a burninglamp that passedbetween those pieces.[x]MKJV: And it happened, the sun went down, and it was dark [and] behold, a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp passed between those pieces. 18 In that day the Lord made an agreement with Abram, and said, To your seed have I given this land from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:
18 그 날에 여호와께서 아브람으로 더불어 언약을 세워 가라사대 내가 이 땅을 애굽강에서부터 그 큰 강 유브라데까지 네 자손에게 주노니
