1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoypleasure: and, behold, this also isvanity.
1 I said in my heart, I will give you joy for a test; so take your pleasure--but it was to no purpose.
1 나는 내 마음에 이르기를 자, 내가 시험적으로 너를 즐겁게 하리니 너는 낙을 누리라 하였으나 본즉 이것도 헛되도다
2 I said of laughter, It ismad: and of mirth, Whatdoeth it?
2 Of laughing I said, It is foolish; and of joy--What use is it?
2 내가 웃음을 논하여 이르기를 미친 것이라 하였고 희락을 논하여 이르기를 저가 무엇을 하는가 하였노라
3 I sought in mine heart to givemyself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heavenall the days of their life.
3 I made a search with my heart to give pleasure to my flesh with wine, still guiding my heart with wisdom, and to go after foolish things, so that I might see what was good for the sons of men to do under the heavens all the days of their life.
3 내 마음에 궁구하기를 내가 어떻게 하여야 내 마음에 지혜로 다스림을 받으면서 술로 내 육신을 즐겁게 할까 또 어떻게 하여야 어리석음을 취하여서 천하 인생의 종신토록 생활함에 어떤 것이 쾌락인지 알까 하여
4 I made me greatworks; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:
4 I undertook great works, building myself houses and planting vine-gardens.
4 나의 사업을 크게 하였노라 내가 나를 위하여 집들을 지으며 포도원을 심으며
5 I made me gardens and orchards, and I plantedtrees in them of all kind offruits:
5 I made myself gardens and fruit gardens, planting in them fruit-trees of all sorts.
5 여러 동산과 과원을 만들고 그 가운데 각종 과목을 심었으며
6 I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forthtrees:
6 I made pools to give water for the woods with their young trees.
6 수목을 기르는 삼림에 물주기 위하여 못을 팠으며
7 I gotmeservants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had greatpossessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalembefore me:
7 I got men-servants and women-servants, and they gave birth to sons and daughters in my house. I had great wealth of herds and flocks, more than all who were in Jerusalem before me.
7 노비는 사기도 하였고 집에서 나게도 하였으며 나보다 먼저 예루살렘에 있던 모든 자보다도 소와 양떼의 소유를 많게 하였으며
8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instrumentsㆍ, and that of all sorts.
8 I got together silver and gold and the wealth of kings and of countries. I got makers of song, male and female; and the delights of the sons of men--girls of all sorts to be my brides.
8 은금과 왕들의 보배와 여러 도의 보배를 쌓고 또 노래하는 남녀와 인생들의 기뻐하는 처와 첩들을 많이 두었노라
9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdomremained with me.
9 And I became great; increasing more than all who had been before me in Jerusalem, and my wisdom was still with me.
9 내가 이같이 창성하여 나보다 먼저 예루살렘에 있던 모든 자보다 지나고 내 지혜도 내게 여전하여
10 And whatsoever mine eyesdesired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heartrejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.
10 And nothing which was desired by my eyes did I keep from them; I did not keep any joy from my heart, because my heart took pleasure in all my work, and this was my reward.
10 무엇이든지 내 눈이 원하는 것을 내가 금하지 아니하며 무엇이든지 내 마음이 즐거워하는 것을 내가 막지 아니하였으니 이는 나의 모든 수고를 내 마음이 기뻐하였음이라 이것이 나의 모든 수고로 말미암아 얻은 분복이로다
11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all wasvanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
11 Then I saw all the works which my hands had made, and everything I had been working to do; and I saw that all was to no purpose and desire for wind, and there was no profit under the sun.
11 그 후에 본즉 내 손으로 한 모든 일과 수고한 모든 수고가 다 헛되어 바람을 잡으려는 것이며 해 아래서 무익한 것이로다
12 And I turned myself to beholdwisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the mando that comethafter the king? even that which hath been alreadydone.
12 And I went again in search of wisdom and of foolish ways. What may the man do who comes after the king? The thing which he has done before.
12 내가 돌이켜 지혜와 망령됨과 어리석음을 보았나니 왕의 뒤에 오는 자는 무슨 일을 행할꼬 행한지 오랜 일일 뿐이리라
13 Then I sawthatwisdomexcellethfolly, as far as lightexcellethdarkness.
13 Then I saw that wisdom is better than foolish ways--as the light is better than the dark.
13 내가 보건대 지혜가 우매보다 뛰어남이 빛이 어두움보다 뛰어남 같도다
14 The wise man'seyesare in his head; but the foolwalketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that oneeventhappeneth to them all.
14 The wise man's eyes are in his head, but the foolish man goes walking in the dark; but still I saw that the same event comes to them all.
14 지혜자는 눈이 밝고 우매자는 어두움에 다니거니와 이들의 당하는 일이 일반인 줄을 내가 깨닫고
15Thensaid I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then morewise? Then I said in my heart, that this also isvanity.
15 Then said I in my heart: As it comes to the foolish man, so will it come to me; so why have I been wise overmuch? Then I said in my heart: This again is to no purpose.
15 심중에 이르기를 우매자의 당한 것을 나도 당하리니 내가 어찌하여 지혜가 더하였던고 이에 내가 심중에 이르기를 이것도 헛되도다
16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which nowis in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wiseman? as the fool.
16 Of the wise man, as of the foolish man, there is no memory for ever, seeing that those who now are will have gone from memory in the days to come. See how death comes to the wise as to the foolish!
16 지혜자나 우매자나 영원토록 기억함을 얻지 못하나니 후일에는 다 잊어버린지 오랠 것임이라 오호라 지혜자의 죽음이 우매자의 죽음과 일반이로다
17 Therefore I hatedlife; because the work that is wrought under the sunisgrievous unto me: for all isvanity and vexation of spirit.
17 So I was hating life, because everything under the sun was evil to me: all is to no purpose and desire for wind.
17 이러므로 내가 사는 것을 한하였노니 이는 해 아래서 하는 일이 내게 괴로움이요 다 헛되어 바람을 잡으려는 것임이로다
18 Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
18 Hate had I for all my work which I had done, because the man who comes after me will have its fruits.
18 내가 해 아래서 나의 수고한 모든 수고를 한하였노니 이는 내 뒤를 이을 자에게 끼치게 됨이라
19 And who knoweth whether he shall be a wiseman or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have showed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
19 And who is to say if that man will be wise or foolish? But he will have power over all my work which I have done and in which I have been wise under the sun. This again is to no purpose.
19 그 사람이 지혜자일찌 우매자일찌야 누가 알랴마는 내가 해 아래서 내 지혜를 나타내어 수고한 모든 결과를 저가 다 관리하리니 이것도 헛되도다
20 Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.
20 So my mind was turned to grief for all the trouble I had taken and all my wisdom under the sun.
20 이러므로 내가 해 아래서 수고한 모든 수고에 대하여 도리어 마음으로 실망케 하였도다
21 For there is a man whose labouris in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also isvanity and a greatevil.
21 Because there is a man whose work has been done with wisdom, with knowledge, and with an expert hand; but one who has done nothing for it will have it for his heritage. This again is to no purpose and a great evil.
21 어떤 사람은 그 지혜와 지식과 재주를 써서 수고하였어도 그 얻은 것을 수고하지 아니한 자에게 업으로 끼치리니 이것도 헛된 것이라 큰 해로다
22 For what hathman of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?
22 What does a man get for all his work, and for the weight of care with which he has done his work under the sun?
22 사람이 해 아래서 수고하는 모든 수고와 마음에 애쓰는 것으로 소득이 무엇이랴
23 For all his daysaresorrows, and his travailgrief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
23 All his days are sorrow, and his work is full of grief. Even in the night his heart has no rest. This again is to no purpose.
23 일평생에 근심하며 수고하는 것이 슬픔 뿐이라 그 마음이 밤에도 쉬지 못하나니 이것도 헛되도다
24There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soulenjoygood in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
24 There is nothing better for a man than taking meat and drink, and having delight in his work. This again I saw was from the hand of God.
24 사람이 먹고 마시며 수고하는 가운데서 심령으로 낙을 누리게 하는 것보다 나은 것이 없나니 내가 이것도 본즉 하나님의 손에서 나는 것이로다
25 For who can eat, or who else can hastenhereunto,more than I?
25 Who may take food or have pleasure without him?
25 먹고 즐거워하는 일에 누가 나보다 승하랴
26 For Godgiveth to a man that isgood in his sightwisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he givethtravail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that isgoodbeforeGod. This also isvanity and vexation of spirit.
26 To the man with whom he is pleased, God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy; but to the sinner he gives the work of getting goods together and storing up wealth, to give to him in whom God has pleasure. This again is to no purpose and desire for wind.
26 하나님이 그 기뻐하시는 자에게는 지혜와 지식과 희락을 주시나 죄인에게는 노고를 주시고 저로 모아 쌓게 하사 하나님을 기뻐하는 자에게 주게 하시나니 이것도 헛되어 바람을 잡으려는 것이로다
