13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:[x]MKJV: And when the LORD your God has delivered it into your hands, you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword. BBE: And when the Lord your God has given it into your hands, let every male in it be put to death without mercy. BBE: So that you may not take them as your example and do all the disgusting things which they do in the worship of their gods, so sinning against the Lord your God. 19 When thou shalt besiege a city a longtime, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an ax against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the fieldisman'slife) to employthem in the siege:[x]MKJV: When you shall besiege a city a long time in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by forcing an axe against them. For you may eat of them, and you shall not cut them down. For [is] the tree of the field a man that it should go before you to lay siege? BBE: If in war a town is shut in by your armies for a long time, do not let its trees be cut down and made waste; for their fruit will be your food; are the trees of the countryside men for you to take up arms against them? KAV: ¶ 네가 어느 도시를 빼앗으려고 오랫동안 에워싸고 싸움을 할 때에 도끼를 써서 그곳의 나무들을 멸하지 말지니 이는 네가 그것들을 먹을 것이기 때문이라. (들의 나무가 사람의 생명이니) 너는 그것들을 베어 내어 에워싸는 데 이용하지 말지니라. 19 If in war a town is shut in by your armies for a long time, do not let its trees be cut down and made waste; for their fruit will be your food; are the trees of the countryside men for you to take up arms against them?
19 너희가 어느 성읍을 오래 동안 에워싸고 쳐서 취하려할 때에도 도끼를 둘러 그곳의 나무를 작벌하지 말라 이는 너희의 먹을 것이 될것임이니 찍지 말라 밭의 수목이 사람이냐 너희가 어찌 그것을 에워싸겠느냐
20 Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt buildbulwarks against the city that makethwar with thee, until it be subdued.[x]MKJV: Only the trees which you know that they [are] not trees for food, you shall destroy and cut them down. And you shall build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued. BBE: Only those trees which you are certain are not used for food may be cut down and put to destruction: and you are to make walls of attack against the town till it is taken.
