1 These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.1 These are the words which Moses said to all Israel on the far side of Jordan, in the waste land in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran on the one side, and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab on the other.1 이는 모세가 요단 저편 숩 맞은편의 아라바 광야 곧 바란과 도벨과 라반과 하세롯과 디사합 사이에서 이스라엘 무리에게 선포한 말씀이니라
2 (There are eleven ㆍ days journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)2 It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.2 호렙산에서 세일산을 지나 가데스 바네아에까지 열 하룻길이었더라
3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh ㆍ month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;3 Now in the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses gave to the children of Israel all the orders which the Lord had given him for them;3 제 사십년 십일월 그 달 초일일에 모세가 이스라엘 자손에게 여호와께서 그들을 위하여 자기에게 주신 명령을 다 고하였으니
4 After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:4 After he had overcome Sihon, king of the Amorites, ruling in Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, ruling in Ashtaroth, at Edrei:4 때는 모세가 헤스본에 거하는 아모리 왕 시혼을 쳐 죽이고 에드레이에서 아스다롯에 거하는 바산 왕 옥을 쳐 죽인 후라
5 On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,5 On the far side of Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses gave the people this law, saying,5 모세가 요단 저편 모압 땅에서 이 율법 설명하기를 시작하였더라 일렀으되
6 The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:6 The Lord our God said to us in Horeb, You have been long enough in this mountain:6 우리 하나님 여호와께서 호렙산에서 우리에게 말씀하여 이르시기를 너희가 이 산에 거한지 오래니
7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.7 Make a move now, and go on your way into the hill-country of the Amorites and the places near it, in the Arabah and the hill-country and in the lowlands and in the South and by the seaside, all the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.7 방향을 돌려 진행하여 아모리 족속의 산지로 가고 그 근지 곳곳으로 가고 아라바와 산지와 평지와 남방과 해변과 가나안 족속의 땅과 레바논과 큰 강 유브라데까지 가라 하셨나니
8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.8 See, all the land is before you: go in and take for yourselves the land which the Lord gave by an oath to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to their seed after them.8 여호와께서 너희의 열조 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세하사 그들과 그 후손에게 주리라 하신 땅이 너희 앞에 있으니 들어가서 얻을찌니라
9 And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:9 At that time I said to you, I am not able to undertake the care of you by myself;9 그 때에 내가 너희에게 말하여 이르기를 나는 홀로 너희 짐을 질 수 없도다
10 The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.10 The Lord your God has given you increase, and now you are like the stars of heaven in number.10 너희 하나님 여호와께서 너희를 번성케 하셨으므로 너희가 오늘날 하늘의 별 같이 많거니와
11 (The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)11 May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times greater in number than you are, and give you his blessing as he has said!11 너희 열조의 하나님 여호와께서 너희를 현재보다 천배나 많게 하시며 너희에게 허락하신 것과 같이 너희에게 복 주시기를 원하노라
12 How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?12 How is it possible for me by myself to be responsible for you, and undertake the weight of all your troubles and your arguments?12 그런즉 나 홀로 어찌 능히 너희의 괴로운 것과 너희의 무거운 짐과 너희의 다툼을 담당할 수 있으랴
13 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.13 Take for yourselves men who are wise, far-seeing, and respected among you, from your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.13 너희의 각 지파에서 지혜와 지식이 있는 유명한 자를 택하라 내가 그들을 세워 너희 두령을 삼으리라 한즉
14 And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.14 And you made answer and said to me, It is good for us to do as you say.14 너희가 대답하여 이르기를 당신의 말씀대로 하는 것이 좋다 하기에
15 So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.15 So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men and respected, and made them rulers over you, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds and captains of fifties and captains of tens, and overseers of your tribes.15 내가 너희 지파의 두령으로 지혜가 있는 유명한 자들을 취하여 너희의 어른을 삼되 곧 각 지파를 따라 천부장과 백부장과 오십부장과 십부장과 패장을 삼고
16 And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.16 And at that time I gave orders to your judges, saying, Let all questions between your brothers come before you for hearing, and give decisions uprightly between a man and his brother or one from another nation who is with him.16 내가 그 때에 너희 재판장들에게 명하여 이르기를 너희가 너희 형제 중에 송사를 들을 때에 양방간에 공정히 판결할 것이며 그들 중의 타국인에게도 그리 할것이라
17 Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.17 In judging, do not let a man's position have any weight with you; give hearing equally to small and great; have no fear of any man, for it is God who is judge: and any cause in which you are not able to give a decision, you are to put before me and I will give it a hearing.17 재판은 하나님께 속한 것인즉 너희는 재판에 외모를 보지말고 귀천을 일반으로 듣고 사람의 낯을 두려워 말것이며 스스로 결단하기 어려운 일이거든 내게로 돌리라 내가 들으리라 하였고
18 And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.18 And at that time I gave you all the orders which you were to do.18 내가 너희의 행할 모든 일을 그 때에 너희에게 다 명하였느니라
19 And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.19 Then we went on from Horeb, through all that great and cruel waste which you saw, on our way to the hill-country of the Amorites, as the Lord gave us orders; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.19 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 명하신대로 우리가 호렙산에서 발행하여 너희의 본바 크고 두려운 광야를 지나 아모리 족속의 산지 길로 가데스 바네아에 이른 때에
20 And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.20 And I said to you, You have come to the hill-country of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us.20 내가 너희에게 이르기를 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주신 아모리 족속의 산지에 너희가 이르렀나니
21 Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.21 See now, the Lord your God has put the land into your hands: go up and take it, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has said to you; have no fear and do not be troubled.21 너희 하나님 여호와께서 이 땅을 너희 앞에 두셨은즉 너희 열조의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 이르신대로 올라가서 얻으라 두려워 말라 주저하지 말라 한즉
22 And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.22 And you came near to me, every one of you, and said, Let us send men before us to go through the land with care and give us an account of the way we are to go and the towns to which we will come.22 너희가 다 내 앞으로 나아와 말하기를 우리가 사람을 우리 앞서 보내어 우리를 위하여 그 땅을 정탐하고 어느 길로 올라가야 할것과 어느 성읍으로 들어가야 할것을 우리에게 회보케 하자 하기에
23 And the saying pleased me well ㆍ: and I took twelve ㆍ men of you, one of a tribe:23 And what you said seemed good to me, and I took twelve men from among you, one from every tribe;23 내가 그 말을 선히 여겨 너희 중에서 매 지파에 한 사람씩 열 둘을 택하매
24 And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.24 And they went up into the hill-country and came to the valley of Eshcol, and saw what was there.24 그들이 앞으로 가서 산지에 올라 에스골 골짜기에 이르러 그곳을 정탐하고
25 And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.25 And taking in their hands some of the fruit of the land, they came down again to us, and gave us their account, saying, It is a good land which the Lord our God is giving us.25 그 땅의 과실을 손에 가지고 우리에게로 돌아와서 우리에게 회보하여 이르되 우리의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주시는 땅이 좋더라 하였느니라
26 Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:26 But going against the order of the Lord your God, you would not go up:26 그러나 너희가 올라가기를 즐겨 아니하고 너희 하나님 여호와의 명을 거역하여
27 And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.27 And you made an angry outcry in your tents, and said, In his hate for us the Lord has taken us out of the land of Egypt, to give us up into the hands of the Amorites for our destruction.27 장막 중에서 원망하여 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 미워하시는고로 아모리 족속의 손에 붙여 멸하시려고 우리를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내셨도다
28 Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.28 Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our hearts feeble with fear by saying, The people are greater and taller than we are, and the towns are great and walled up to heaven; and more than this, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.28 우리가 어디로 갈꼬 우리의 형제들이 우리로 낙심케 하여 말하기를 그 백성은 우리보다 장대하며 그 성읍은 크고 성곽은 하늘에 닿았으며 우리가 또 거기서 아낙 자손을 보았노라 하는도다 하기로
29 Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.29 Then I said to you, Have no fear of them.29 내가 너희에게 말하기를 그들을 무서워 말라 두려워하지 말라
30 The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;30 The Lord your God who goes before you will be fighting for you, and will do such wonders as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;30 너희 앞서 행하시는 너희 하나님 여호와께서 애굽에서 너희를 위하여 너희 목전에서 모든 일을 행하신것 같이 이제도 너희를 위하여 싸우실 것이며
31 And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.31 And in the waste land, where you have seen how the Lord was supporting you, as a man does his son, in all your journeying till you came to this place.31 광야에서도 너희가 당하였거니와 사람이 자기 아들을 안음 같이 너희 하나님 여호와께서 너희의 행로 중에 너희를 안으사 이곳까지 이르게 하셨느니라 하나
32 Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,32 But for all this, you had no faith in the Lord your God,32 이 일에 너희가 너희 하나님 여호와를 믿지 아니하였도다
33 Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.33 Who goes before you on your way, looking for a place where you may put up your tents, in fire by night, lighting up the way you are to go, and in a cloud by day.33 그는 너희 앞서 행하시며 장막 칠 곳을 찾으시고 밤에는 불로, 낮에는 구름으로 너희의 행할 길을 지시하신 자니라
34 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,34 And the Lord, hearing your words, was angry, and said with an oath,34 여호와께서 너희의 말소리를 들으시고 노하사 맹세하여 가라사대
35 Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,35 Truly, not one of this evil generation will see that good land which I said I would give to your fathers,35 이 악한 세대 사람들 중에는 내가 그들의 열조에게 주기로 맹세한 좋은 땅을 볼 자가 하나도 없으리라
36 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.36 But only Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, he will see it; and to him and to his children I will give the land over which his feet have gone, because he has been true to the Lord with all his heart.36 오직 여분네의 아들 갈렙은 온전히 여호와를 순종하였은즉 그는 그것을 볼 것이요 그가 밟은 땅을 내가 그와 그의 자손에게 주리라 하시고
37 Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.37 And, in addition, the Lord was angry with me because of you, saying, You yourself will not go into it:37 여호와께서 너희의 연고로 내게도 진노하사 가라사대 너도 그리로 들어가지 못하리라
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.38 Joshua, the son of Nun, your servant, he will go into the land: say to him that he is to be strong, for he will be Israel's guide into their heritage.38 너의 종자 눈의 아들 여호수아는 그리로 들어갈 것이니 너는 그를 담대케 하라 그가 이스라엘에게 그 땅을 기업으로 얻게 하리라
39 Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.39 And your little ones, who, you said, would come into strange hands, your children, who now have no knowledge of good or evil, they will go into that land, and to them I will give it and it will be theirs.39 또 너희가 사로잡히리라 하던 너희의 아이들과 당일에 선악을 분변치 못하던 너희 자녀들 그들은 그리로 들어갈 것이라 내가 그 땅을 그들에게 주어 산업이 되게 하리라
40 But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.40 But as for you, go back, journeying into the waste land by the way of the Red Sea.40 너희는 회정하여 홍해 길로하여 광야로 들어갈찌니라 하시매
41 Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.41 Then you said to me, We have done evil against the Lord, we will go up to the attack, as the Lord our God has given us orders. And arming yourselves every one, you made ready to go up without care into the hill-country.41 너희가 대답하여 내게 이르기를 우리가 여호와께 범죄하였사오니 우리 하나님께서 우리에게 명하신대로 우리가 올라가서 싸우리이다 하고 너희가 각각 병기를 띠고 경솔히 산지로 올라가려 할 때에
42 And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.42 And the Lord said to me, Say to them, Do not go up to the attack; for I am not among you, and you will be overcome by those who are against you.42 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 너는 그들에게 이르기를 너희는 올라가지 말라 싸우지도 말라 내가 너희 중에 있지 아니하니 너희가 대적에게 패할까 하노라 하셨다 하라 하시기로
43 So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.43 This I said to you, but you gave no attention and went against the orders of the Lord, and in your pride went up into the hill-country.43 내가 너희에게 고하였으나 너희가 듣지 아니하고 여호와의 명을 거역하고 천자히 산지로 올라가매
44 And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.44 And the Amorites who were in the hill-country came out against you and put you to flight, rushing after you like bees, and overcame you in Seir, driving you even as far as Hormah.44 그 산지에 거하는 아모리 족속이 너희를 마주 나와서 벌떼 같이 너희를 쫓아 세일산에서 쳐서 호르마까지 미친지라
45 And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.45 And you came back, weeping before the Lord; but the Lord gave no attention to your cries and did not give ear to you.45 너희가 돌아와서 여호와 앞에서 통곡하나 여호와께서 너희의 소리를 듣지 아니하시며 너희에게 귀를 기울이지 아니하셨으므로
46 So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.46 So you were kept waiting in Kadesh for a long time.46 너희가 가데스에 여러날 동안 거하였었나니 곧 너희가 그곳에 거하던 날 수대로니라
