3 Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?	3 Then Paul said to him, God will give blows to you, you whitewashed wall: are you here to be my judge by law, and by your orders am I given blows against the law?	3 바울이 가로되 회칠한 담이여 하나님이 너를 치시리로다 네가 나를 율법대로 판단한다고 앉아서 율법을 어기고 나를 치라 하느냐 하니

4 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?	4 And those who were near said, Do you say such words against God's high priest?	4 곁에 선 사람들이 말하되 하나님의 대제사장을 네가 욕하느냐

5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.	5 And Paul said, Brother, I had no idea that he was the high priest: for it has been said, You may not say evil about the ruler of your people.	5 바울이 가로되 형제들아 나는 그가 대제사장인줄 알지 못하였노라 기록하였으되 너의 백성의 관원을 비방치 말라 하였느니라 하더라

6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.	6 But when Paul saw that half of them were Sadducees and the rest Pharisees, he said in the Sanhedrin, Brothers, I am a Pharisee, and the son of Pharisees: I am here to be judged on the question of the hope of the coming back from the dead.	6 바울이 그 한 부분은 사두개인이요 한 부분은 바리새인인줄 알고 공회에서 외쳐 가로되 여러분 형제들아 나는 바리새인이요 또 바리새인의 아들이라 죽은 자의 소망 곧 부활을 인하여 내가 심문을 받노라

7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.	7 And when he had said this, there was an argument between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and a division in the meeting.	7 그 말을 한즉 바리새인과 사두개인 사이에 다툼이 생겨 무리가 나누이니

8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.	8 For the Sadducees say that there is no coming back from the dead, and no angels or spirits: but the Pharisees have belief in all these.	8 이는 사두개인은 부활도 없고 천사도 없고 영도 없다 하고 바리새인은 다 있다 함이라

9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.	9 And there was a great outcry: and some of the scribes on the side of the Pharisees got up and took part in the discussion, saying, We see no evil in this man: what if he has had a revelation from an angel or a spirit?	9 크게 훤화가 일어날쌔 바리새인 편에서 몇 서기관이 일어나 다투어 가로되 우리가 이 사람을 보매 악한 것이 없도다 혹 영이나 혹 천사가 저더러 말하였으면 어찌 하겠느뇨 하여

10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.	10 And when the argument became very violent, the chief captain, fearing that Paul would be pulled in two by them, gave orders to the armed men to take him by force from among them, and take him into the army building.	10 큰 분쟁이 생기니 천부장이 바울이 저희에게 찢겨질까 하여 군사를 명하여 내려가 무리 가운데서 빼앗아 가지고 영문으로 들어가라 하니라

11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.	11 And the night after, the Lord came to his side and said, Be of good heart, for as you have been witnessing for me in Jerusalem, so will you be my witness in Rome.	11 그날 밤에 주께서 바울 곁에 서서 이르시되 담대하라 네가 예루살렘에서 나의 일을 증거한 것 같이 로마에서도 증거하여야 하리라 하시니라

12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together ㆍ, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.	12 And when it was day, the Jews came together and put themselves under an oath that they would take no food or drink till they had put Paul to death.	12 날이 새매 유대인들이 당을 지어 맹세하되 바울을 죽이기 전에는 먹지도 아니하고 마시지도 아니하겠다 하고

13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.	13 And more than forty of them took this oath.	13 이같이 동맹한 자가 사십 여명이더라

14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.	14 And they came to the chief priests and the rulers and said, We have taken a great oath to take no food till we have put Paul to death	14 대제사장들과 장로들에게 가서 말하되 우리가 바울을 죽이기 전에는 아무 것도 먹지 않기로 굳게 맹세하였으니

15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.	15 So now, will you and the Sanhedrin make a request to the military authorities to have him sent down to you, as if you were desiring to go into the business in greater detail; and we, before ever he gets to you, will be waiting to put him to death.	15 이제 너희는 그의 사실을 더 자세히 알아볼 양으로 공회와 함께 천부장에게 청하여 바울을 너희에게로 데리고 내려오게 하라 우리는 그가 가까이 오기 전에 죽이기로 준비하였노라 하더니

16 And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.	16 But Paul's sister's son had word of their design, and he came into the army building and gave news of it to Paul.	16 바울의 생질이 그들이 매복하여 있다 함을 듣고 와서 영문에 들어가 바울에게 고한지라

17 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.	17 And Paul sent for a captain and said, Take this young man to your chief, for he has news for him.	17 바울이 한 백부장을 청하여 가로되 이 청년을 천부장에게로 인도하라 그에게 무슨 할 말이 있다 하니

18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.	18 So he took him to the chief captain and said, Paul, the prisoner, made a request to me to take this young man to you, for he has something to say to you.	18 천부장에게로 데리고 가서 가로되 죄수 바울이 나를 불러 이 청년이 당신께 할 말이 있다 하여 데리고 가기를 청하더이다 하매

19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately ㆍ, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?	19 And the chief took him by the hand and, going on one side, said to him privately, What is it you have to say to me?	19 천부장이 그 손을 잡고 물러가서 종용히 묻되 내게 할 말이 무엇이냐

20 And he said ㆍ, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly.	20 And he said, The Jews are in agreement together to make a request to you for Paul to be taken, on the day after this, into the Sanhedrin, to be questioned in greater detail.	20 대답하되 유대인들이 공모하기를 저희들이 바울에 대하여 더 자세한 것을 묻기 위함이라 하고 내일 그를 데리고 공회로 내려오기를 당신께 청하자 하였으니

21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.	21 But do not give way to them, for more than forty of them are waiting for him, having taken an oath not to take food or drink till they have put him to death: and now they are ready, waiting for your order.	21 당신은 저희 청함을 좇지 마옵소서 저희 중에서 바울을 죽이기 전에는 먹지도 않고 마시지도 않기로 맹세한 자 사십 여명이 그를 죽이려고 숨어서 지금 다 준비하고 당신의 허락만 기다리나이다 하매

22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast showed these things to me.	22 So the chief captain let the young man go, saying to him, Do not say to anyone that you have given me word of these things.	22 이에 천부장이 청년을 보내며 경계하되 이 일을 내게 고하였다고 아무에게도 이르지 말라 하고

23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;	23 And he sent for two captains and said, Make ready two hundred men, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen, to go to Caesarea, at the third hour of the night:	23 백부장 둘을 불러 이르되 밤 제삼시에 가이사랴까지 갈 보병 이백 명과 마병 칠십 명과 창군 이백 명을 준비하라 하고

24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.	24 And get beasts so that they may put Paul on them, and take him safely to Felix, the ruler.	24 또 바울을 태워 총독 벨릭스에게로 무사히 보내기 위하여 짐승을 준비하라 명하며

25 And he wrote a letter after this manner:	25 And he sent a letter in these words:	25 또 이 아래와 같이 편지하니 일렀으되

26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.	26 Claudius Lysias, to the most noble ruler, Felix, peace be with you.	26 글라우디오 루시아는 총독 벨릭스 각하에게 문안하노이다

27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.	27 This man was taken by the Jews, and was about to be put to death by them, when I came on them with the army and took him out of danger, having knowledge that he was a Roman.	27 이 사람이 유대인들에게 잡혀 죽게 된 것을 내가 로마 사람인줄 들어 알고 군사를 거느리고 가서 구원하여다가

28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:	28 And, desiring to get at the reason for their attack on him, I took him down to their Sanhedrin:	28 유대인들이 무슨 일로 그를 송사하는지 알고자 하여 저희 공회로 데리고 내려갔더니

29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.	29 Then it became clear to me that it was a question of their law, and that nothing was said against him which might be a reason for prison or death.	29 송사하는 것이 저희 율법 문제에 관한 것뿐이요 한 가지도 죽이거나 결박할 사건이 없음을 발견하였나이다

30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait ㆍ ㆍ for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.	30 And when news was given to me that a secret design was being made against the man, I sent him straight away to you, giving orders to those who are against him to make their statements before you.	30 그러나 이 사람을 해하려는 간계가 있다고 누가 내게 알게 하기로 곧 당신께로 보내며 또 송사하는 사람들도 당신 앞에서 그를 대하여 말하라 하였나이다 하였더라

31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.	31 So the armed men, as they were ordered, took Paul and came by night to Antipatris.	31 보병이 명을 받은대로 밤에 바울을 데리고 안디바드리에 이르러

32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:	32 But on the day after, they sent the horsemen on with him, and went back to their place:	32 이튿날 마병으로 바울을 호송하게 하고 영문으로 돌아 가니라

33 Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.	33 And they, when they came to Caesarea, gave the letter to the ruler, and took Paul before him.	33 저희가 가이사랴에 들어가서 편지를 총독에게 드리고 바울을 그 앞에 세우니

34 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;	34 And after reading it, he said, What part of the country do you come from? And, hearing that he was from Cilicia,	34 총독이 읽고 바울더러 어느 영지 사람이냐 물어 길리기아 사람인줄 알고

35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.	35 I will give hearing to your cause, he said, when those who are against you have come. And he gave orders for him to be kept in Herod's Praetorium.	35 가로되 너를 송사하는 사람들이 오거든 네 말을 들으리라 하고 헤롯궁에 그를 지키라 명하니라

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
