4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.	4 And Paul said, John gave a baptism which goes with a change of heart, saying to the people that they were to have faith in him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.	4 바울이 가로되 요한이 회개의 세례를 베풀며 백성에게 말하되 내 뒤에 오시는 이를 믿으라 하였으니 이는 곧 예수라 하거늘

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.	5 And hearing this, they had baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus.	5 저희가 듣고 주 예수의 이름으로 세례를 받으니

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.	8 And he went into the Synagogue, and for three months he was preaching there without fear, reasoning and teaching about the kingdom of God.	8 바울이 회당에 들어가 석 달 동안을 담대히 하나님 나라에 대하여 강론하며 권면하되

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily ㆍ in the school of one Tyrannus.	9 But because some of the people were hard-hearted and would not give hearing, saying evil words about the Way before the people, he went away from them, and kept the disciples separate, reasoning every day in the school of Tyrannus.	9 어떤 사람들은 마음이 굳어 순종치 않고 무리 앞에서 이 도를 비방하거늘 바울이 그들을 떠나 제자들을 따로 세우고 두란노 서원에서 날마다 강론하여

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.	10 And this went on for two years, so that all those who were living in Asia had knowledge of the word of the Lord, Greeks as well as Jews.	10 이같이 두 해 동안을 하매 아시아에 사는 자는 유대인이나 헬라인이나 다 주의 말씀을 듣더라

11 And God wrought special ㆍ miracles by the hands of Paul:	11 And God did special works of power by the hands of Paul:	11 하나님이 바울의 손으로 희한한 능을 행하게 하시니

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.	12 So that bits of linen and clothing from his body were taken to people who were ill, and their diseases went away from them and the evil spirits went out.	12 심지어 사람들이 바울의 몸에서 손수건이나 앞치마를 가져다가 병든 사람에게 얹으면 그 병이 떠나고 악귀도 나가더라

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.	13 But some of the Jews who went from place to place driving out evil spirits, took it on themselves to make use of the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, I give you orders, by Jesus, whom Paul is preaching.	13 이에 돌아다니며 마술하는 어떤 유대인들이 시험적으로 악귀 들린 자들에게 대하여 주 예수의 이름을 불러 말하되 내가 바울의 전파하는 예수를 빙자하여 너희를 명하노라 하더라

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva ㆍ, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.	14 And there were seven sons of a man named Sceva, a Jew and a chief priest, who did this.	14 유대의 한 제사장 스게와의 일곱 아들도 이 일을 행하더니

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?	15 And the evil spirit, answering, said to them, I have knowledge of Jesus, and of Paul, but who are you?	15 악귀가 대답하여 가로되 예수도 내가 알고 바울도 내가 알거니와 너희는 누구냐 하며

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.	16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was, jumping on them, was stronger than the two of them, and overcame them, so that they went running from that house, wounded and without their clothing.	16 악귀 들린 사람이 그 두 사람에게 뛰어올라 억제하여 이기니 저희가 상하여 벗은 몸으로 그 집에서 도망하는지라

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.	17 And this came to the ears of all those, Jews and Greeks, who were living at Ephesus; and fear came on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was made great.	17 에베소에 거하는 유대인과 헬라인들이 다 이 일을 알고 두려워하며 주 예수의 이름을 높이고

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds.	18 And a number of those who had faith came and made a public statement of their sins and all their acts.	18 믿은 사람들이 많이 와서 자복하여 행한 일을 고하며

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.	19 And a great number of those who were experts in strange arts took their books and put them on the fire in front of everyone: and when the books were valued they came to fifty thousand bits of silver.	19 또 마술을 행하던 많은 사람이 그 책을 모아 가지고 와서 모든 사람 앞에서 불사르니 그 책 값을 계산한즉 은 오만이나 되더라

20 So mightily ㆍ grew the word of God and prevailed.	20 So the word of the Lord was increased very greatly and was full of power.	20 이와 같이 주의 말씀이 힘이 있어 흥왕하여 세력을 얻으니라

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After ㆍ I have been there, I must also see Rome.	21 Now after these things were ended, Paul came to a decision that when he had gone through Macedonia and Achaia he would go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I have a desire to see Rome.	21 이 일이 다 된 후 바울이 마게도냐와 아가야로 다녀서 예루살렘에 가기를 경영하여 가로되 내가 거기 갔다가 후에 로마도 보아야 하리라 하고

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.	22 And having sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, into Macedonia, he himself went on living in Asia for a time.	22 자기를 돕는 사람 중에서 디모데와 에라스도 두 사람을 마게도냐로 보내고 자기는 아시아에 얼마간 더 있으니라

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.	23 And about that time a great outcry took place about the Way.	23 그 때쯤 되어 이 도로 인하여 적지 않은 소동이 있었으니

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;	24 For there was a certain man named Demetrius, a silver-worker, who made silver boxes for the images of Diana, and gave no small profit to the workmen;	24 즉 데메드리오라 하는 어떤 은장색이 아데미의 은감실을 만들어 직공들로 적지 않은 벌이를 하게 하더니

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.	25 Whom he got together, with other workmen of the same trade, and said to them, Men, it is clear that from this business we get our wealth.	25 그가 그 직공들과 이러한 영업하는 자들을 모아 이르되 여러분도 알거니와 우리의 유족한 생활이 이 업에 있는데

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:	26 And you see, for it has come to your ears, that not only at Ephesus, but almost all through Asia, this Paul has been teaching numbers of people and turning them away, saying that those are not gods who are made by men's hands:	26 이 바울이 에베소 뿐아니라 거의 아시아 전부를 통하여 허다한 사람을 권유하여 말하되 사람의 손으로 만든 것들은 신이 아니라 하니 이는 그대들도 보고 들은 것이라

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, ㆍ ㆍ, and ㆍ her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.	27 And there is danger, not only that our trade may be damaged in the opinion of men, but that the holy place of the great goddess Diana may be no longer honoured, and that she to whom all Asia and the world give worship, will be put down from her high position.	27 우리의 이 영업만 천하여질 위험이 있을 뿐아니라 큰 여신 아데미의 전각도 경홀이 여김이 되고 온 아시아와 천하가 위하는 그의 위엄도 떨어질까 하노라 하더라

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.	28 And hearing this, they were very angry, crying out and saying, Great is Diana of Ephesus.	28 저희가 이 말을 듣고 분이 가득하여 외쳐 가로되 크다 에베소 사람의 아데미여 하니

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.	29 And the town was full of noise and trouble, and they all came running into the theatre, having taken by force Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia who were journeying in company with Paul.	29 온 성이 요란하여 바울과 같이 다니는 마게도냐 사람 가이오와 아리스다고를 잡아가지고 일제히 연극장으로 달려들어 가는지라

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.	30 And when Paul was about to go in to the people, the disciples did not let him.	30 바울이 백성 가운데로 들어가고자 하나 제자들이 말리고

31 And ㆍ certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.	31 And some of the rulers of Asia, being his friends, sent to him, requesting him seriously not to put himself in danger by going into the theatre.	31 또 아시아 관원 중에 바울의 친구된 어떤이들이 그에게 통지하여 연극장에 들어가지 말라 권하더라

32 Some therefore ㆍ cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.	32 And some said one thing, and some another: for there was no order in the meeting; and most of them had no idea why they had come together.	32 사람들이 외쳐 혹은 이 말을, 혹은 저 말을 하니 모인 무리가 분란하여 태반이나 어찌하여 모였는지 알지 못하더라

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.	33 Then they took Alexander out from among the people, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander, making a sign with his hand, was about to make a statement to the people in answer:	33 유대인들이 무리 가운데서 알렉산더를 권하여 앞으로 밀어내니 알렉산더가 손짓하며 백성에게 발명하려 하나

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all ㆍ with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.	34 But when they saw that he was a Jew, all of them with one voice went on crying out for about two hours, Great is Diana of Ephesus.	34 저희는 그가 유대인인줄 알고 다 한 소리로 외쳐 가로되 크다 에베소 사람의 아데미여 하기를 두시 동안이나 하더니

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what ㆍ man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?	35 And when the chief secretary had got the people quiet, he said, Men of Ephesus, is any man without knowledge that the town of Ephesus is the keeper of the holy place of the great Diana, who was sent down from Jupiter?	35 서기장이 무리를 안돈시키고 이르되 에베소 사람들아 에베소 성이 큰 아데미와 및 쓰스에게서 내려온 우상의 전각지기가 된줄을 누가 알지 못하겠느냐

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought ㆍ to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.	36 So then, because these things may not be doubted, it would be better for you to be quiet, and do nothing unwise.	36 이 일이 그렇지 않다 할수 없으니 너희가 가만히 있어서 무엇이든지 경솔히 아니하여야 하리라

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.	37 For you have taken these men, who are not doing damage to the holy place or talking against our goddess.	37 전각의 물건을 도적질하지도 아니하였고 우리 여신을 훼방하지도 아니한 이 사람들을 너희가 잡아 왔으니

38 Wherefore ㆍ if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.	38 If, then, Demetrius and the workmen who are with him have a protest to make against any man, the law is open to them, and there are judges; let them put up a cause at law against one another.	38 만일 데메드리오와 및 그와 함께 있는 직공들이 누구에게 송사할 것이 있거든 재판 날도 있고 총독들도 있으니 피차 고소할 것이요

39 But if ye inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.	39 But if any other business is in question, let it be taken up in the regular meeting.	39 만일 그 외에 무엇을 원하거든 정식으로 민회에서 결단할찌라

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.	40 For, truly, we are in danger of being made responsible for this day's trouble, there being no cause for it: and we are not able to give any reason for this coming together.	40 오늘 아무 까닭도 없는 이 일에 우리가 소요의 사건으로 책망 받을 위험이 있고 우리가 이 불법 집회에 관하여 보고할 재료가 없다 하고

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.	41 And when he had said this, he sent the meeting away.	41 이에 그 모임을 흩어지게 하니라

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
