10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.	10 And when he had seen the vision, straight away we made the decision to go into Macedonia, for it seemed certain to us that God had sent us to give the good news to them.	10 바울이 이 환상을 본 후에 우리가 곧 마게도냐로 떠나기를 힘쓰니 이는 하나님이 저 사람들에게 복음을 전하라고 우리를 부르신 줄로 인정함이러라

11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;	11 So, from Troas we went straight by ship to Samothrace and the day after to Neapolis;	11 드로아에서 배로 떠나 사모드라게로 직행하여 이튿날 네압볼리로 가고

12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.	12 And from there to Philippi, which is the most important town of Macedonia and a Roman colony: and we were there for some days.	12 거기서 빌립보에 이르니 이는 마게도냐 지경 첫성이요 또 로마의 식민지라 이 성에서 수일을 유하다가

13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.	13 And on the Sabbath we went outside the town, by the river, where we had an idea that there would be a place of prayer; and, being seated, we had talk with the women who had come together.	13 안식일에 우리가 기도처가 있는가 하여 문밖 강 가에 나가 거기 앉아서 모인 여자들에게 말하더니

14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.	14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a trader in purple cloth of the town of Thyatira, and a God-fearing woman, gave ear to us: whose heart the Lord made open to give attention to the things which Paul was saying.	14 두아디라성의 자주 장사로서 하나님을 공경하는 루디아라 하는 한 여자가 들었는데 주께서 그 마음을 열어 바울의 말을 청종하게 하신지라

15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.	15 And when she and her family had had baptism, she made a request to us, saying, If it seems to you that I am true to the Lord, come into my house and be my guests. And she made us come.	15 저와 그 집이 다 세례를 받고 우리에게 청하여 가로되 만일 나를 주 믿는 자로 알거든 내 집에 들어와 유하라 하고 강권하여 있게 하니라

16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:	16 And when we were going to the place of prayer, we came across a girl with a spirit which gave knowledge of the future, whose masters made great profit from her power.	16 우리가 기도하는 곳에 가다가 점하는 귀신 들린 여종 하나를 만나니 점으로 그 주인들을 크게 이하게 하는 자라

17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation.	17 She came after Paul and us, crying out and saying, These men are the servants of the Most High God, who are giving you news of the way of salvation.	17 바울과 우리를 좇아와서 소리질러 가로되 이 사람들은 지극히 높은 하나님의 종으로 구원의 길을 너희에게 전하는 자라 하며

18 And this did she ㆍ many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.	18 And this she did on a number of days. But Paul was greatly troubled and, turning, said to the spirit, I give you orders in the name of Jesus Christ, to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.	18 이같이 여러 날을 하는지라 바울이 심히 괴로와하여 돌이켜 그 귀신에게 이르되 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 내가 네게 명하노니 그에게서 나오라 하니 귀신이 즉시 나오니라

19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,	19 But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they took Paul and Silas, pulling them into the market-place before the rulers;	19 종의 주인들은 자기 이익의 소망이 끊어진 것을 보고 바울과 실라를 잡아 가지고 저자로 관원들에게 끌어 갔다가

20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,	20 And when they had taken them before the authorities, they said, These men, who are Jews, are greatly troubling our town;	20 상관들 앞에 데리고 가서 말하되 이 사람들이 유대인인데 우리 성을 심히 요란케 하여

21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.	21 Teaching rules of living which it is not right for us to have or to keep, being Romans.	21 로마 사람인 우리가 받지도 못하고 행치도 못할 풍속을 전한다 하거늘

22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.	22 And the people made an attack on them all together: and the authorities took their clothing off them, and gave orders for them to be whipped.	22 무리가 일제히 일어나 송사하니 상관들이 옷을 찢어 벗기고 매로 치라 하여

23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:	23 And when they had given them a great number of blows, they put them in prison, giving orders to the keeper of the prison to keep them safely:	23 많이 친 후에 옥에 가두고 간수에게 분부하여 든든히 지키라 하니

24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.	24 And he, having such orders, put them into the inner prison with chains on their feet.	24 그가 이러한 영을 받아 저희를 깊은 옥에 가두고 그 발을 착고에 든든히 채웠더니

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.	25 But about the middle of the night, Paul and Silas were making prayers and songs to God in the hearing of the prisoners;	25 밤중쯤 되어 바울과 실라가 기도하고 하나님을 찬미하매 죄수들이 듣더라

26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.	26 And suddenly there was an earth-shock, so that the base of the prison was moved: and all the doors came open, and everyone's chains came off.	26 이에 홀연히 큰 지진이 나서 옥터가 움직이고 문이 곧 다 열리며 모든 사람의 매인 것이 다 벗어진지라

27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.	27 And the keeper, coming out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, took his sword and was about to put himself to death, fearing that the prisoners had got away.	27 간수가 자다가 깨어 옥문들이 열린 것을 보고 죄수들이 도망한줄 생각하고 검을 빼어 자결하려 하거늘

28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.	28 But Paul said in a loud voice, Do yourself no damage, for we are all here.	28 바울이 크게 소리질러 가로되 네 몸을 상하지 말라 우리가 다 여기 있노라 하니

29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,	29 And he sent for lights and came rushing in and, shaking with fear, went down on his face before Paul and Silas,	29 간수가 등불을 달라고 하며 뛰어 들어가 무서워 떨며 바울과 실라 앞에 부복하고

30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?	30 And took them out and said, Sirs, what have I to do to get salvation?	30 저희를 데리고 나가 가로되 선생들아 내가 어떻게 하여야 구원을 얻으리이까 하거늘

31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.	31 And they said, Have faith in the Lord Jesus, and you and your family will have salvation.	31 가로되 주 예수를 믿으라 그리하면 너와 네 집이 구원을 얻으리라 하고

32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.	32 And they gave the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.	32 주의 말씀을 그 사람과 그 집에 있는 모든 사람에게 전하더라

33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes ㆍ; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.	33 And that same hour of the night, he took them, and when he had given attention to their wounds, he and all his family had baptism straight away.	33 밤 그 시에 간수가 저희를 데려다가 그 맞은 자리를 씻기고 자기와 그 권속이 다 세례를 받은 후

34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.	34 And he took them into his house and gave them food, and he was full of joy, having faith in God with all his family.	34 저희를 데리고 자기 집에 올라가서 음식을 차려주고 저와 온 집이 하나님을 믿었으므로 크게 기뻐하니라

35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.	35 But when it was day, the authorities sent the police, saying, Let these men go.	35 날이 새매 상관들이 아전을 보내어 이 사람들을 놓으라 하니

36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul ㆍ, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.	36 And the keeper said to Paul, The authorities have given orders to let you go: come out now, and go in peace.	36 간수가 이 말대로 바울에게 고하되 상관들이 사람을 보내어 너희를 놓으라 하였으니 이제는 나가서 평안히 가라 하거늘

37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans ㆍ, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.	37 But Paul said to them, They have given us who are Romans a public whipping without judging us, and have put us in prison. Will they now send us out secretly? no, truly, let them come themselves and take us out.	37 바울이 이르되 로마 사람인 우리를 죄도 정치 아니하고 공중 앞에서 때리고 옥에 가두었다가 이제는 가만히 우리를 내어 보내고자 하느냐 아니라 저희가 친히 와서 우리를 데리고 나가야 하리라 한대

38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.	38 And the police gave an account of these words to the authorities, and they were full of fear on hearing that they were Romans;	38 아전들이 이 말로 상관들에게 고하니 저희가 로마 사람이라 하는 말을 듣고 두려워하여

39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.	39 Then they came and made prayers to them, requesting them, when they had taken them out, to go away from the town.	39 와서 권하여 데리고 나가 성에서 떠나기를 청하니

40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.	40 And they came out of the prison and went to the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brothers they gave them comfort and went away.	40 두 사람이 옥에서 나가 루디아의 집에 들어가서 형제들을 만나보고 위로하고 가니라

King James English

KJ English(1611년~)는 셰익스피어의 영어문장처럼 현대 영문법과 약간 다릅니다. 하지만 몇 가지 차이만 알면 오히려 요즘 영어문장보다 더 정확한 내용 이해와 문장의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

상대편(2인칭)에게 말할 때 단수, 복수를 구분합니다. 복수(너희)이면 ye, you, your, yours, yourself를, 단수(너)이면 thou, thee, thy, thine, thyself입니다. 요즘 영어와 달리 "너"와 "너희"가 명확히 구분됩니다!
3인칭 현재동사는 -th나 -eth로 끝나는데 요즘 영어문장에서 -s나 -es와 같습니다.
-st나 -est로 끝나는 동사는 직설법을 말하는 데, 생략하고 읽으면 됩니다.
