For if we run away, they will not set [their] heart on us, even if half of us die. For now you [are] worth ten thousand of us. And now it is] better that you remain to help us from the city. 11 And Joabsaid unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawesthim, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? And I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a girdle. 12 And the mansaid unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousandshekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king'sson: for in our hearing the kingcharged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young manAbsalom.[x]MKJV: And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand silverlings in my hand, yet I would not put forth my hand against the king's son. For in our ears the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware you who go] against the young man, against Absalom. BBE: And the man said to Joab, Even if you gave me a thousand bits of silver, I would not put out my hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king gave orders to you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take care that the young man Absalom is not touched. 12 And the man said to Joab, Even if you gave me a thousand bits of silver, I would not put out my hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king gave orders to you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take care that the young man Absalom is not touched.

13Otherwise I should have wroughtfalsehood against mine own life: for there is no matterhid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.[x]MKJV: Or I would have dealt falsely with my own life, for there is no matter hidden from the king, and you yourself would have set yourself against [me]. BBE: And if I had falsely put him to death (and nothing may be kept secret from the king), you would have had nothing to do with me. 19 Then saidAhimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the kingtidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.[x]MKJV: Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, And let me run and bear the news to the king, how the LORD has avenged him of his enemies. BBE: Then Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok, said, Let me go and give the king news of how the Lord has done right in his cause against those who took up arms against him. But today you shall bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead. 22 사독의 아들 아히마아스가 다시 요압에게 이르되 청컨대 아무쪼록 나로 또한 구스 사람의 뒤를 따라 달음질하게 하소서 요압이 가로되 내 아들아 왜 달음질하려 하느냐 이 소식으로 인하여는 상을 받지 못하리라 하되
23 But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaazran by the way of the plain, and overranCushi.[x]MKJV: But he said, Yet whatever, let me run! And he said to him, Run. And Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and ran past the Cushite. BBE: Whatever may come of it, he said, I will go. Then he said to him, Go. 23 Whatever may come of it, he said, I will go. Then he said to him, Go. So Ahimaaz went running by the lowland road and overtook the Cushite.
24 And Davidsat between the twogates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a manrunning alone.[x]MKJV: And David sat between the two gates. 25 And the watchmancried, and told the king. And the kingsaid, If he be alone, there istidings in his mouth. And he cameapace, and drew near.[x]MKJV: And the watchman cried and told the king. And the king said, If he [is] alone, there is news in his mouth. And he came apace and drew near. BBE: And the watchman gave news of it to the king. And the king said, If he is coming by himself, then he has news. And the man was travelling quickly, and came near. KAV: 파수꾼이 외쳐 왕께 고하매 왕이 이르되, 그가 만일 혼자면 그의 입에 소식이 있느니라, 할 때에 그가 빨리 와서 가까이 다가오니라.
25 And the watchman gave news of it to the king. And the king said, If he is coming by himself, then he has news. And the man was travelling quickly, and came near.
25 파숫군이 외쳐 왕께 고하매 왕이 가로되 저가 만일 혼자면 그 입에 소식이 있으리라 할 때에 저가 차차 가까이 오니라
26 And the watchmansawanothermanrunning: and the watchmancalled unto the porter, and said, Behold anothermanrunning alone. And the kingsaid, He also bringeth tidings.[x]MKJV: And the watchman saw another man running. And the watchman called to the porter and said, Behold, [another] man running alone. And the king said, He also brings news. BBE: Then the watchman saw another man running: and crying out in the direction of the door he said, Here is another man running by himself. 26 Then the watchman saw another man running: and crying out in the direction of the door he said, Here is another man running by himself. And the king said, He, like the other, comes with news.
26 파숫군이 본즉 한 사람이 또 달음질하는지라 문지기에게 외쳐 이르되 보라 한 사람이 또 혼자 달음질한다 하니 왕이 가로되 저도 소식을 가져오느니라
27 And the watchmansaid, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the kingsaid, He is a goodman, and cometh with goodtidings.[x]MKJV: And the watchman said, I see the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He [is] a good man, and comes with good news. BBE: And the watchman said, It seems to me that the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok. 27 And the watchman said, It seems to me that the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and his news will be good.
27 파숫군이 가로되 나 보기에는 앞선 사람의 달음질이 사독의 아들 아히마아스의 달음질과 같으니이다 왕이 가로되 저는 좋은 사람이니 좋은 소식을 가져 오느니라
28 And Ahimaazcalled, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessedbe the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.[x]MKJV: And Ahimaaz called and said to the king, Peace! And he fell down upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed [be] the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king. BBE: And Ahimaaz, crying out to the king, said, It is well. And falling down before the king, with his face to the earth, he said, May the Lord your God be praised, who has given up the men who took up arms against my lord the king! 28 아히마아스가 외쳐 왕께 말씀하되 평강하옵소서 하고 왕의 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절하여 가로되 왕의 하나님 여호와를 찬양하리로소이다 그 손을 들어 내 주 왕을 대적하는 자들을 붙여 주셨나이다
29 And the kingsaid, Is the young manAbsalomsafe? And Ahimaazanswered, When Joabsent the king'sservant, and me thy servant, I saw a greattumult, but I knew not what it was.[x]MKJV: And the king said, Peace to the young man, to Absalom? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and your servant, I saw a great uproar, but I did not know what [it was]. BBE: And the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz said in answer, When Joab sent me, your servant, I saw a great outcry going on, but I had no knowledge of what it was. 29 And the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz said in answer, When Joab sent me, your servant, I saw a great outcry going on, but I had no knowledge of what it was.
29 왕이 가로되 소년 압살롬이 잘 있느냐 아히마아스가 대답하되 요압이 왕의 종 나를 보낼 때에 크게 소동하는 것을 보았사오나 무슨 일인지 알지 못하였나이다
30 And the kingsaidunto him, Turn aside, andstandhere. And he turned aside, and stood still.[x]MKJV: And the king said, Turn aside, stand here. And he turned aside and stood still. BBE: And the king said, Get back and take your place here. So turning to one side, he took his place there. KAV: 왕이 그에게 이르되, 옆으로 물러나 여기 서 있으라, 하매 그가 옆으로 물러나 서 있더라.

31 And, behold, Cushicame; and Cushisaid, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.[x]MKJV: And, behold, Cushi came. And Cushi said, Good news, my lord the king, for the LORD has avenged you this day of all those who rose up against you. BBE: And then the Cushite came and said, I have news for my lord the king: today the Lord has done right in your cause against all those who took up arms against you. 31 And then the Cushite came and said, I have news for my lord the king: today the Lord has done right in your cause against all those who took up arms against you.

32 And the kingsaid unto Cushi, Is the young manAbsalomsafe? And Cushi answered, May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise against you to do [you] hurt, be as the young man. BBE: And the king said to the Cushite, Is the young man Absalom safe? And the Cushite said in answer, May all the king's haters and those who do evil against the king, be as that young man is! 32 And the king said to the Cushite, Is the young man Absalom safe? And the Cushite said in answer, May all the king's haters and those who do evil against the king, be as that young man is!
32 왕이 구스 사람에게 묻되 소년 압살롬이 잘 있느냐 구스 사람이 대답하되 내 주 왕의 원수와 일어나서 왕을 대적하는 자들은 다 그 소년과 같이 되기를 원하나이다
33 And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my sonAbsalom, my son, my sonAbsalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son![x]MKJV: And the king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate and wept. And as he went, he said this, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son! BBE: Then the king was much moved, and went up into the room over the door, weeping, and saying, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! if only my life might have been given for yours, O Absalom, my son, my son! KAV: ¶ 왕이 크게 격동하여 문 너머에 있던 방으로 올라가서 우니라. 그가 올라갈 때에 이같이 말하기를, 오 내 아들 압살롬아, 내 아들 내 아들 압살롬아! 내가 너를 대신하여 죽었더라면 얼마나 좋았으랴! 오 압살롬아, 내 아들아, 내 아들아, 하였더라.
