4 And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king'sson, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? 5 And Jonadabsaid unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy fathercometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sisterTamarcome, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may seeit, and eatit at her hand.[x]MKJV: And Jonadab said to him, Lay down on your bed and make yourself sick. 9 And she took a pan, and poured themoutbefore him; but he refused to eat. And Amnonsaid, Have out all men from me. And every man went out from him. BBE: And she took the cooking-pot, and put the cakes before him, but he would not take them. And Amnon said, Let everyone go away from me. So they all went out. 9 And she took the cooking-pot, and put the cakes before him, but he would not take them. And Amnon said, Let everyone go away from me. So they all went out.

10 And Amnonsaid unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamartook the cakes which she had made, and broughtthem into the chamber to Amnon her brother.[x]MKJV: And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the room so that I may eat out of your hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought [them] into the room to Amnon her brother. 10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, Take the food and come into my bedroom, so that I may take it from your hand. So Tamar took the cakes she had made and went with them into her brother Amnon's bedroom.
10 암논이 다말에게 이르되 식물을 가지고 침실로 들어오라 내가 네 손에서 먹으리라 다말이 자기의 만든 과자를 가지고 침실에 들어가 그 오라비 암논에게 이르러
11 And when she had broughtthem unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Comelie with me, my sister.[x]MKJV: And when she had brought [them] to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister. BBE: And when she took them to give them to him, he put his arms round her and said, Come to bed, my sister. 11 And when she took them to give them to him, he put his arms round her and said, Come to bed, my sister.

12 And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.[x]MKJV: And she answered him, No, my brother, do not humble me. For no such thing ought to be done in Israel. Do not do this folly. BBE: And answering him, she said, O my brother, do not put shame on me; it is not right for such a thing to be done in Israel: do not this evil thing. 13 And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.[x]MKJV: And I, where shall I cause my shame to go? And as for you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. But now please speak to the king. For he will not withhold me from you. BBE: What will become of me in my shame? and as for you, you will be looked down on with disgust by all Israel. Now then, go and make your request to the king, for he will not keep me from you. 13 What will become of me in my shame? and as for you, you will be looked down on with disgust by all Israel. Now then, go and make your request to the king, for he will not keep me from you.

14 Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.[x]MKJV: But he would not listen to her voice; but being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her. BBE: But he would not give attention to what she said: but being stronger than she, he took her by force, and had connection with her. 14 But he would not give attention to what she said: but being stronger than she, he took her by force, and had connection with her.

15 Then Amnonhated her exceedinglyㆍ; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her wasgreater than the love wherewith he had loved her. 15 Then Amnon was full of hate for her, hating her with a hate greater than his earlier love for her. And he said to her, Get up and be gone.

16 And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me awayisgreater than the other that thou didst unto me. BBE: And she said to him, Not so, my brother, for this great wrong in sending me away is worse than what you did to me before. But he gave no attention to her. 16 And she said to him, Not so, my brother, for this great wrong in sending me away is worse than what you did to me before. But he gave no attention to her.

17 Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this womanout from me, and bolt the doorafter her.[x]MKJV: And he called his servant who waited on him and said, And put this [woman] out from me, and bolt the door after her. BBE: Then he gave a cry to the servant who was waiting on him and said, Put this woman out, and let the door be locked after her. 17 Then he gave a cry to the servant who was waiting on him and said, Put this woman out, and let the door be locked after her.

18 And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king'sdaughtersthat werevirginsapparelled. Then his servantbrought her out, and bolted the doorafter her.[x]MKJV: And [she had] a robe of many colors upon her, for the king's virgin daughters were clothed with such robes. And his servant brought her out and bolted the door after her. BBE: Now she had on a long robe, such as in past times the king's virgin daughters were dressed in. 18 Now she had on a long robe, such as in past times the king's virgin daughters were dressed in. Then the servant put her out, locking the door after her.

19 And Tamarputashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and wentoncrying.[x]MKJV: And Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the robe of many colors that [was] on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on, crying. 20 And Absalom her brothersaid unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regardㆍ not this thing. Do not set your heart on this thing. And Tamar remained desolate in the house of her brother Absalom. BBE: And her brother Absalom said to her, Has your brother Amnon been with you? but now, let there be an end to your crying, my sister: he is your brother, do not take this thing to heart. 21 But when kingDavidheard of all these things, he was verywroth.[x]MKJV: And when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry. BBE: But when King David had news of all these things he was very angry; but he did not make trouble for Amnon his son, for he was dear to David, being his oldest son. 21 But when King David had news of all these things he was very angry; but he did not make trouble for Amnon his son, for he was dear to David, being his oldest son.

26 Then Absalom said, If you will not go, then let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Is there any reason for him to go with you?

29 And the servants of Absalomdid unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. 32 And Jonadab, the son of ShimeahDavid'sbrother, answered and said, Let not my lordsupposethat they have slain all the young men the king'ssons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sisterTamar.[x]MKJV: And Jonadab, the son of David's brother Shimeah answered and said, Let not my lord think that they have killed all the young men, the king's sons. For only Amnon is dead. For by the mouth of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he humbled his sister Tamar. BBE: And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, said, Let not my lord have the idea that all the sons of the king have been put to death; for only Amnon is dead: this has been purposed by Absalom from the day when he took his sister Tamar by force. 32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, said, Let not my lord have the idea that all the sons of the king have been put to death; for only Amnon is dead: this has been purposed by Absalom from the day when he took his sister Tamar by force.

33 Now therefore let not my lord the kingtake the thing to his heart, to think that all the king'ssons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.[x]MKJV: And now do not let my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead, for only Amnon is dead. 33 So now, let not my lord the king take this thing to heart, with the idea that all the king's sons are dead: for only Amnon is dead.

And they lifted up their voice and wept. And the king also and all his servants wept with a great weeping.
