1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenthㆍyear of Jehoshaphatking of Judah, and reignedtwelveㆍyears.[x]MKJV: And Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years. 1 And Jehoram, the son of Ahab, became king over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of the rule of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah; and he was king for twelve years.

2 And he wroughtevil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.[x]MKJV: And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like his father and his mother; for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made. BBE: He did evil in the eyes of the Lord; but not like his father and his mother, for he put away the stone pillar of Baal which his father had made. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord; but not like his father and his mother, for he put away the stone pillar of Baal which his father had made.
2 저가 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였으나 그 부모와 같이 하지는 아니하였으니 이는 저가 그 아비의 만든 바알의 주상을 제하였음이라
3 Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.[x]MKJV: But he clung to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. He did not depart from them. BBE: But still he did the same sins which Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, did and made Israel do; he went on in them. KAV: 그럼에도 불구하고 그가 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 이스라엘로 하여금 죄를 짓게 한 그 죄들에 집착하여 거기서 떠나지 아니하였더라.
3 But still he did the same sins which Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, did and made Israel do; he went on in them.

KAV: ¶ 모압 왕 메사는 양 주인이더라. 그가 어린양 십만 마리와 숫양 십만 마리를 털과 함께 이스라엘 왕에게 바쳤으나
4 Now Mesha, king of Moab, was a sheep-farmer; and he gave regularly to the king of Israel the wool from a hundred thousand lambs and a hundred thousand sheep.

5 But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moabrebelled against the king of Israel.[x]MKJV: And it happened when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. BBE: But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab got free from the authority of the king of Israel. KAV: 아합이 죽은 뒤에 모압 왕이 이스라엘 왕을 배반하니라.

6 And kingJehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.[x]MKJV: And king Jehoram went out of Samaria at the same time and numbered all Israel. BBE: At that time, King Jehoram went out from Samaria and got all Israel together in fighting order. KAV: ¶ 바로 그때에 여호람 왕이 사마리아에서 나아가 온 이스라엘의 수를 세고

7 And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.[x]MKJV: And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up. I [am] as you are], my people as your people, my horses as your horses. BBE: And he sent to Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has got free from my authority: will you go with me to make war on Moab? And he said, I will go with you: I am as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses. KAV: 또 가서 유다 왕 여호사밧에게 사람을 보내어 이르되, 모압 왕이 나를 배반하였으니 당신은 나와 함께 싸우러 가서 모압을 치시겠느냐? 하매 그가 이르되, 내가 올라가리이다. 나는 당신과 같고 내 백성은 당신의 백성과 같으며 내 말들도 당신의 말들과 같으니이다, 하니
7 And he sent to Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has got free from my authority: will you go with me to make war on Moab? And he said, I will go with you: I am as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.
7 또 가서 유다 왕 여호사밧에게 보내어 이르되 모압 왕이 나를 배반하였으니 당신은 나와 함께 가서 모압을 치시겠느뇨 저가 가로되 내가 올라가리이다 나는 당신과 일반이요 내 백성은 당신의 백성과 일반이요 내 말들도 당신의 말들과 일반이니이다
8 And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.[x]MKJV: And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom. BBE: And he said, Which way are we to go? And he said in answer, By the waste land of Edom. KAV: 여호람이 이르되, 우리가 어느 길로 올라가리이까? 하매 그가 대답하되, 에돔의 광야를 지나는 길로 가리이다, 하니라.
8 And he said, Which way are we to go? And he said in answer, By the waste land of Edom.

9 So the king of Israelwent, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of sevendaysjourney: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.[x]MKJV: And the king of Israel and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom went. And they went around behind for seven days' journey. And there was no water for the army, and for the cattle that followed them. BBE: So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom by a roundabout way for seven days: and there was no water for the army or for the beasts they had with them. KAV: 이처럼 이스라엘 왕이 유다 왕과 에돔 왕과 함께 가며 그들이 이레 길을 돌아서 이동하였는데 거기에 군대와 그들을 따라가는 가축을 먹일 물이 없었으므로
9 So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom by a roundabout way for seven days: and there was no water for the army or for the beasts they had with them.
9 이스라엘 왕이 유다 왕과 에돔 왕으로 더불어 행하더니 길을 둘러 행한지 칠일에 군사와 따라가는 생축을 먹일 물이 없는지라
10 And the king of Israelsaid, Alas! that the LORD hath called these threekingstogether, to deliver them into the hand of Moab![x]MKJV: And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab! BBE: And the king of Israel said, Here is trouble: for the Lord has got these three kings together to give them into the hands of Moab. KAV: 이스라엘 왕이 이르되, 아 슬프다! {주}께서 이 세 왕을 모압의 손에 넘겨주려고 함께 부르셨도다! 하니라.
10 And the king of Israel said, Here is trouble: for the Lord has got these three kings together to give them into the hands of Moab.
10 이스라엘 왕이 가로되 슬프다 여호와께서 이 세 왕을 불러 모아 모압의 손에 붙이려 하시는도다
11 But Jehoshaphatsaid, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel'sservantsanswered and said, Here isElisha the son of Shaphat, which pouredwater on the hands of Elijah.[x]MKJV: And Jehoshaphat said, [Is there] not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may ask of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah. BBE: But Jehoshaphat said, Is there no prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may get directions from the Lord? And one of the king of Israel's men said in answer, Elisha, the son of Shaphat, is here, who was servant to Elijah. KAV: 그러나 여호사밧은 이르되, 우리가 대언자를 통해 {주}께 여쭙고자 하니 여기에 {주}의 대언자가 없느냐? 하매 이스라엘 왕의 신하들 가운데 한 사람이 대답하여 이르되, 전에 엘리야의 손에 물을 붓던 사밧의 아들 엘리사가 여기 있나이다, 하거늘
11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there no prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may get directions from the Lord? And one of the king of Israel's men said in answer, Elisha, the son of Shaphat, is here, who was servant to Elijah.
11 여호사밧이 가로되 우리가 여호와께 물을만한 여호와의 선지자가 여기 없느냐 이스라엘 왕의 신복 중에 한 사람이 대답하여 가로되 전에 엘리야의 손에 물을 붓던 사밧의 아들 엘리사가 여기 있나이다
12 And Jehoshaphatsaid, The word of the LORDis with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.[x]MKJV: And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. And the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom went down to him. BBE: And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the Lord is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. KAV: 여호사밧이 이르되, {주}의 말씀이 그에게 있도다, 하니라. 이에 이스라엘 왕이 여호사밧과 에돔 왕과 함께 그에게로 내려가니라.
12 And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the Lord is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 And Elishasaid unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israelsaid unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these threekingstogether, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.[x]MKJV: And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What do I have to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, No, for the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab. BBE: But Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? go to the prophets of your father and your mother. And the king of Israel said, No; for the Lord has got these three kings together to give them up into the hands of Moab. 13 But Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? go to the prophets of your father and your mother. And the king of Israel said, No; for the Lord has got these three kings together to give them up into the hands of Moab.

14 And Elishasaid, As the LORD of hostsliveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.[x]MKJV: And Elisha said, [As] the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely if it were not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you nor see you. BBE: Then Elisha said, By the life of the Lord of armies whose servant I am, if it was not for the respect I have for Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, I would not give a look at you, or see you. KAV: 엘리사가 이르되, 내가 서서 섬기는 만군의 {주}께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 만일 유다 왕 여호사밧이 앞에 있음을 고려하지 아니하였더라면 분명히 왕 쪽을 보지도 아니하고 왕을 보지도 아니하였으리이다.
14 Then Elisha said, By the life of the Lord of armies whose servant I am, if it was not for the respect I have for Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, I would not give a look at you, or see you.
14 엘리사가 가로되 내가 섬기는 만군의 여호와의 사심을 가리켜 맹세하노니 내가 만일 유다 왕 여호사밧의 낯을 봄이 아니면 당신을 향하지도 아니하고 보지도 아니하였으리이다
15 But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrelplayed, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.[x]MKJV: And now bring me a minstrel. And it happened when the minstrel played, the hand of the LORD came on him. BBE: But now, get me a player of music, and it will come about that while the man is playing, the hand of the Lord will come on me and I will give you the word of the Lord: and they got a player of music, and while the man was playing, the hand of the Lord was on him. KAV: 그러나 이제 음악 하는 자를 내게로 데려오소서, 하니라. 음악 하는 자가 연주할 때에 {주}의 손이 엘리사에게 임하니
15 But now, get me a player of music, and it will come about that while the man is playing, the hand of the Lord will come on me and I will give you the word of the Lord: and they got a player of music, and while the man was playing, the hand of the Lord was on him.
15 이제 내게로 거문고 탈 자를 불러 오소서 하니라 거문고 타는 자가 거문고를 탈 때에 여호와께서 엘리사를 감동하시니
16 And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.[x]MKJV: And he said, So says the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. BBE: And he said, The Lord says, I will make this valley full of water-holes. KAV: 그가 이르되, {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 이 골짜기에 도랑을 많이 파라.
16 And he said, The Lord says, I will make this valley full of water-holes.
16 저가 가로되 여호와의 말씀이 이 골짜기에 개천을 많이 파라 하셨나이다
17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not seewind, neither shall ye seerain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.[x]MKJV: For so says the LORD, You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain. Still that valley shall be filled [with] water, so that you may drink, both you and your cattle, and your animals. BBE: For the Lord says, Though you see no wind or rain, the valley will be full of water, and you and your armies and your beasts will have drink. KAV: {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 너희가 바람도 보지 못하고 비도 보지 못할 터이나 그럼에도 저 골짜기에 물이 가득하여 너희와 너희 가축과 짐승이 마시리라.
17 For the Lord says, Though you see no wind or rain, the valley will be full of water, and you and your armies and your beasts will have drink.
17 여호와께서 이르시기를 너희가 바람도 보지 못하고 비도 보지 못하되 이 골짜기에 물이 가득하여 너희와 너희 육축과 짐승이 마시리라 하셨나이다
18 And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.[x]MKJV: And this is a light thing in the sight of the LORD. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. BBE: And this will be only a small thing to the Lord: in addition he will give the Moabites into your hands. KAV: 이것은 {주}의 눈앞에서 단지 작은 일이며 그분께서 모압 족속도 당신들의 손에 넘겨주실 터인즉
18 And this will be only a small thing to the Lord: in addition he will give the Moabites into your hands.

19 And ye shall smite every fencedcity, and every choicecity, and shall fell every goodtree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every goodpiece of land with stones.[x]MKJV: And you shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city. And you shall cut down every good tree and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece [of land] with stones. BBE: And you are to put every walled town to destruction, cutting down every good tree, and stopping up every water-spring, and making all the good land rough with stones. 19 And you are to put every walled town to destruction, cutting down every good tree, and stopping up every water-spring, and making all the good land rough with stones.

20 And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there camewater by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.[x]MKJV: And it happened in the morning when the food offering was offered, behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. BBE: Now in the morning, about the time when the offering was made, they saw water flowing from the direction of Edom till the country was full of water. KAV: 아침에 음식 헌물을 드릴 때에, 보라, 물이 에돔 길에서 나와 그 지역이 물로 가득하였더라.

BBE: Now all Moab, hearing that the kings had come to make war against them, got together all who were able to take up arms and went forward to the edge of the country. KAV: ¶ 왕들이 올라와서 자기들과 싸우려 한다는 것을 온 모압 족속이 듣고 갑옷을 입을 수 있는 자로부터 나이가 그 이상 되는 자들이 다 모여 경계에 섰더라.
21 Now all Moab, hearing that the kings had come to make war against them, got together all who were able to take up arms and went forward to the edge of the country.
21 모압 모든 사람이 왕들이 올라와서 자기를 치려 한다 함을 듣고 갑옷 입을만한 자로부터 그 이상이 다 모여 그 경계에 섰더라
22 And they rose up early in the morning, and the sunshone upon the water, and the Moabitessaw the water on the other sideasred as blood:[x]MKJV: And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side red [like] blood. BBE: And early in the morning they got up, when the sun was shining on the water, and they saw the water facing them as red as blood. KAV: 아침에 모압 족속이 일찍 일어나서 해가 물에 비치므로 맞은편 물이 피처럼 붉게 된 것을 보고

23 And they said, This isblood: the kings are surelyslain, and they have smittenoneanother: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.[x]MKJV: And they said, This [is] blood. The kings are surely slain, and they have stricken one another. And now, Moab, to the spoil! BBE: Then they said, This is blood: it is clear that destruction has come on the kings; they have been fighting one another: now come, Moab, let us take their goods. KAV: 이르되, 이것은 피라. 분명히 그 왕들이 서로를 쳐서 죽였도다. 그러므로 이제 모압아, 노략하러 가자, 하고
23 Then they said, This is blood: it is clear that destruction has come on the kings; they have been fighting one another: now come, Moab, let us take their goods.
23 가로되 이는 피라 필연 저 왕들이 싸워 서로 죽인 것이로다 모압 사람들아 이제 노략하러 가자 하고
24 And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fledbefore them: but they went forwardsmiting the Moabites, even in their country.[x]MKJV: And they came to the camp of Israel, and the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them. But they [entered it and] struck Moab. BBE: But when they came to the tents of Israel, the Israelites came out and made a violent attack on the Moabites, so that they went in flight before them; and they went forward still attacking them; KAV: 이스라엘 진영에 이르니 이스라엘 사람들이 일어나서 모압 족속을 치매 그들이 이스라엘 사람들 앞에서 도망하니라. 그러나 이스라엘 사람들이 앞으로 가서 그들의 지역으로 들어가 모압 족속을 치고
24 But when they came to the tents of Israel, the Israelites came out and made a violent attack on the Moabites, so that they went in flight before them; and they went forward still attacking them;
24 이스라엘 진에 이르니 이스라엘 사람이 일어나 모압 사람을 쳐서 그 앞에서 도망하게 하고 그 지경에 들어가며 모압 사람을 치고
25 And they beat down the cities, and on every goodpiece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the goodtrees: only in Kirharasethleft they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went aboutit, and smote it.[x]MKJV: And they beat down the cities, and each man cast his stone on every good piece [of land], and filled it. And they stopped all the wells of water, and cut down all the good trees. Only in Kir-haraseth did they leave the stones of it. But the slingers surrounded it and struck it. BBE: Pulling down the towns, covering every good field with stones, stopping up all the water-springs, and cutting down all the good trees; they went on driving Moab before them till only in Kir-hareseth were there any Moabites; and the fighting-men went round the town raining stones on it. KAV: 도시들을 쳐부수며 또 각 사람이 모든 좋은 땅에 돌을 던져 그것을 채우고 모든 샘을 메우며 모든 좋은 나무를 베고 오직 길하라셋에서 그곳의 돌들만 남겼으나 돌팔매꾼들이 거기를 두루 다니며 그곳을 치니라.
25 Pulling down the towns, covering every good field with stones, stopping up all the water-springs, and cutting down all the good trees; they went on driving Moab before them till only in Kir-hareseth were there any Moabites; and the fighting-men went round the town raining stones on it.
25 그 성읍을 쳐서 헐고 각기 돌을 던져 모든 좋은 밭에 가득하게 하고 모든 샘을 메우고 모든 좋은 나무를 베고 길하레셋의 돌들은 남기고 물맷군이 두루 다니며 치니라
26 And when the king of Moabsaw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him sevenhundredmen that drewswords, to break througheven unto the king of Edom: but they could not.[x]MKJV: And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too strong for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew swords, in order to break through to the king of Edom. And they could not. BBE: And when the king of Moab saw that the fight was going against him, he took with him seven hundred men armed with swords, with the idea of forcing a way through to the king of Aram, but they were not able to do so. KAV: ¶ 모압 왕이 자기가 감당하기에 싸움이 너무 심한 것을 보고는 칼을 휘두를 수 있는 사람 칠백 명을 거느리고 헤치고 나아가 에돔 왕에게로 가고자 하되 능히 하지 못하더라.
26 And when the king of Moab saw that the fight was going against him, he took with him seven hundred men armed with swords, with the idea of forcing a way through to the king of Aram, but they were not able to do so.
26 모압 왕이 전세가 극렬하여 당하기 어려움을 보고 칼 찬 군사 칠백을 거느리고 충돌하여 지나서 에돔 왕에게로 가고자 하되 능히 못하고
27 Then he took his eldestson that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. 27 이에 자기 위를 이어 왕이 될 맏아들을 취하여 성 위에서 번제를 드린지라 이스라엘에게 크게 통분함이 임하매 저희가 떠나 각기 고국으로 돌아갔더라
