2 And Elijah said to Elisha, Come no farther for the Lord has sent me to Beth-el. But Elisha said, As the Lord is living and as your soul is living, I will not be parted from you. So they went down to Beth-el.

3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I knowit; hold ye your peace.[x]MKJV: And the sons of the prophets at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from your head today? And he said, Yes, I know. Keep silent. BBE: And at Beth-el the sons of the prophets came out to Elisha and said, Has it been made clear to you that the Lord is going to take away your master from over you today? 3 And at Beth-el the sons of the prophets came out to Elisha and said, Has it been made clear to you that the Lord is going to take away your master from over you today? And he said, Yes, I have knowledge of it: say no more.

5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jerichocame to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I knowit; hold ye your peace.[x]MKJV: And the sons of the prophets at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from your head today? And he answered, Yes, I know. Keep silent. 7 And fiftymen of the sons of the prophetswent, and stood to view afar off: and they twostood by Jordan.[x]MKJV: And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went on and stood afar off across [from them]. And both of them stood by the Jordan. BBE: And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went out and took their places facing them a long way off, while the two of them were by the edge of Jordan. KAV: 대언자들의 아들들 가운데 오십 명이 가서 멀리 서서 바라보았는데 그들 두 사람이 요르단 옆에 섰더라.

8 And Elijahtook his mantle, and wrapped ittogether, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.[x]MKJV: And Elijah took his mantle and rolled [it] up, and struck the waters. And they were divided here and there, so that both of them crossed over on dry ground. BBE: Then Elijah took off his robe, and, rolling it up, gave the water a blow with it, and the waters were parted, flowing back this way and that, so that they went over on dry land. 8 Then Elijah took off his robe, and, rolling it up, gave the water a blow with it, and the waters were parted, flowing back this way and that, so that they went over on dry land.

9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijahsaid unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elishasaid, I pray thee, let a doubleportion of thy spirit be upon me.[x]MKJV: And it happened when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha. Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken away from you. And Elisha said, please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me. BBE: And when they had come to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, Say what you would have me do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, Be pleased to let a special measure of your spirit be on me. 9 And when they had come to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, Say what you would have me do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, Be pleased to let a special measure of your spirit be on me.

BBE: And he said, You have made a hard request: still, if you see me when I am taken from you, you will get your desire; but if not, it will not be so. 10 And he said, You have made a hard request: still, if you see me when I am taken from you, you will get your desire; but if not, it will not be so.
10 가로되 네가 어려운 일을 구하는도다 그러나 나를 네게서 취하시는 것을 네가 보면 그 일이 네게 이루려니와 그렇지 않으면 이루지 아니하리라 하고
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them bothasunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.[x]MKJV: And it happened as they went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire [came], and they separated between them both. And Elijah went up in a tempest into Heaven. BBE: And while they went on their way, going on talking together, suddenly there were carriages and horses of fire separating them from one another and Elijah went up to heaven in a great wind. 11 And while they went on their way, going on talking together, suddenly there were carriages and horses of fire separating them from one another and Elijah went up to heaven in a great wind.

12 And Elishasawit, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in twopieces.[x]MKJV: And Elisha saw, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen! And he saw him no more. And he took hold of his clothes and tore them in two pieces. BBE: And when Elisha saw it he gave a cry, My father, my father, the carriages of Israel and its horsemen! 12 And when Elisha saw it he gave a cry, My father, my father, the carriages of Israel and its horsemen! And he saw him no longer; and he was full of grief.

15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jerichosaw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.[x]MKJV: And when the sons of the prophets across in Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests upon Elisha! And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. BBE: And when the sons of the prophets who were facing him at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha. 15 And when the sons of the prophets who were facing him at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha. And they came out to him, and went down on the earth before him.

16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servantsfiftystrongmenㆍ; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon somemountain, or into somevalley. And he said, Ye shall not send.[x]MKJV: And [they] said to him, Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master, lest the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, You shall not send. BBE: And they said, Your servants have with us here fifty strong men; be pleased to let them go in search of Elijah; for it may be that the spirit of the Lord has taken him up and put him down on some mountain or in some valley. But he said, Do not send them. KAV: ¶ 그들이 그에게 이르되, 이제 보소서, 당신의 종들에게 강한 자 오십 명이 있으니 원하건대 그들이 가서 당신의 주인을 찾게 하소서. 혹시 {주}의 [영]께서 그를 들어다가 어느 산에나 어느 골짜기에 던지셨을까 염려하나이다, 하매 엘리사가 이르되, 너희는 보내지 말라, 하였으나
16 And they said, Your servants have with us here fifty strong men; be pleased to let them go in search of Elijah; for it may be that the spirit of the Lord has taken him up and put him down on some mountain or in some valley. But he said, Do not send them.
16 가로되 당신의 종들에게 용사 오십인이 있으니 청컨대 저희로 가서 당신의 주를 찾게 하소서 염려컨대 여호와의 신이 저를 들어가다가 어느 산에나 어느 골짜기에 던지셨을까 하나이다 엘리사가 가로되 보내지 말라 하나
17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fiftymen; and they soughtthreedays, but found him not.[x]MKJV: And they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, Send. And they sent fifty men. And they looked for three days, but did not find him. BBE: But when they kept on requesting him, he was shamed and said, Send, then. So they sent fifty men; but after searching for three days, they came back without having seen him. KAV: 그들이 그가 민망히 여길 때까지 그에게 재촉하므로 그가, 보내라, 하매 그들이 오십 명을 보내니라. 그들이 사흘 동안 찾되 그를 발견하지 못하고
17 But when they kept on requesting him, he was shamed and said, Send, then. So they sent fifty men; but after searching for three days, they came back without having seen him.
17 무리가 저로 부끄러워하도록 강청하매 보내라 한지라 저희가 오십인을 보내었더니 사흘을 찾되 발견하지 못하고
18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?[x]MKJV: And they returned to him, And he was staying in Jericho. And he said to them, Did I not say to you, Do not go? BBE: And they came back to him, while he was still at Jericho; and he said to them, Did I not say to you, Go not? KAV: (엘리사가 여리고에 머무르므로) 그에게 돌아오니 엘리사가 그들에게 이르되, 내가 가지 말라고 너희에게 말하지 아니하였느냐? 하였더라.
18 And they came back to him, while he was still at Jericho; and he said to them, Did I not say to you, Go not?

19 And the men of the citysaid unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this cityispleasant, as my lordseeth: but the waterisnought, and the groundbarren.[x]MKJV: And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, please, the location of this city [is] pleasant, as my lord sees. But the waters [are] bad, and the ground [is] barren. BBE: Now the men of the town said to Elisha, You see that the position of this town is good; but the water is bad, causing the young of the cattle to come to birth dead. KAV: ¶ 그 도시의 사람들이 엘리사에게 이르되, 원하건대, 보소서, 내 주께서 보시는 바와 같이 이 도시의 위치는 좋으나 물이 좋지 못하므로 땅이 열매를 맺지 못하나이다, 하니
19 Now the men of the town said to Elisha, You see that the position of this town is good; but the water is bad, causing the young of the cattle to come to birth dead.
19 그 성 사람들이 엘리사에게 고하되 우리 주께서 보시는 바와 같이 이 성읍의 터는 아름다우나 물이 좋지 못하므로 토산이 익지 못하고 떨어지나이다
20 And he said, Bring me a newcruse, and putsalt therein. And they broughtit to him.[x]MKJV: And he said, Bring me a new jar and put salt in it. And they brought to him. BBE: So he said, Get me a new vessel, and put salt in it; and they took it to him. KAV: 엘리사가 이르되, 새 항아리에 소금을 담아 그것을 가져오라, 하매 그들이 그것을 그에게 가져오므로
20 So he said, Get me a new vessel, and put salt in it; and they took it to him.
20 엘리사가 가로되 새 그릇에 소금을 담아 내게로 가져오라 하매 곧 가져온지라
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barrenland.[x]MKJV: And he went forth to the spring of the waters and threw the salt in there, and said, So says the LORD, I have healed these waters. There shall not be any more death or barrenness from there. BBE: Then he went out to the spring from which the water came, and put salt in it, and said, The Lord says, Now I have made this water sweet; no longer will it be death-giving or unfertile. KAV: 엘리사가 물들의 근원으로 나아가 소금을 그 가운데 던지며 이르되, {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 내가 이 물들을 고쳤으니 다시는 거기에서부터 죽음이나 열매를 맺지 못하는 땅이 생기지 아니하리라, 하매
21 Then he went out to the spring from which the water came, and put salt in it, and said, The Lord says, Now I have made this water sweet; no longer will it be death-giving or unfertile.
21 엘리사가 물 근원으로 나아가서 소금을 그 가운데 던지며 가로되 여호와의 말씀이 내가 이 물을 고쳤으니 이로 좇아 다시는 죽음이나 토산이 익지 못하고 떨어짐이 없을찌니라 하셨느니라 하니
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.[x]MKJV: And the waters were healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke. BBE: And the water was made sweet again to this day, as Elisha said. KAV: 이에 그 물들이 엘리사가 한 말대로 고쳐져서 이 날까지 이르렀더라.

23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forthlittlechildren out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.[x]MKJV: And he went up from there to Bethel. And he was going up in the highway. And little boys came out from the city and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head! BBE: Then from there he went up to Beth-el; and on his way, some little boys came out from the town and made sport of him, crying, Go up, old no-hair! go up, old no-hair! KAV: ¶ 엘리사가 거기에서 벧엘로 올라가는데 그가 길에서 올라갈 때에 어린아이들이 도시에서 나와 그를 조롱하여 그에게 이르되, 너 대머리여 올라가라. 너 대머리여 올라가라, 하므로
23 Then from there he went up to Beth-el; and on his way, some little boys came out from the town and made sport of him, crying, Go up, old no-hair! go up, old no-hair!

24 And he turnedback, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forthtwo she bears out of the wood, and tareforty and twochildren of them.[x]MKJV: And he turned behind him and saw them, and declared them vile in the name of the LORD.
