1 In the twenty-third year of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, became king over Israel in Samaria, ruling for seventeen years.
1 유다 왕 아하시야의 아들 요아스의 이십삼년에 예후의 아들 여호아하스가 사마리아에서 이스라엘 왕이 되어 십 칠년을 치리하며
2 And he didthat which wasevil in the sight of the LORD, and followedㆍ the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.[x]MKJV: And he did the evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. And he did not depart from them. BBE: He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, copying the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, which he did and made Israel do; he did not keep himself from them. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, copying the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, which he did and made Israel do; he did not keep himself from them.
2 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하여 이스라엘로 범죄케 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄를 좇고 떠나지 아니하였으므로
3 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazaelking of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all theirdays.[x]MKJV: And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, all [their] days. BBE: So the wrath of the Lord was burning against Israel, and he gave them up into the power of Hazael, king of Aram, and into the power of Ben-hadad, the son of Hazael, again and again. 3 So the wrath of the Lord was burning against Israel, and he gave them up into the power of Hazael, king of Aram, and into the power of Ben-hadad, the son of Hazael, again and again.

4 And Jehoahazbesought the LORD, and the LORDhearkenedunto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syriaoppressed them.[x]MKJV: And Jehoahaz sought the LORD, and the LORD listened to him. For He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them. BBE: Then Jehoahaz made prayer to the Lord, and the Lord gave ear to him, for he saw how cruelly Israel was crushed by the king of Aram. 4 Then Jehoahaz made prayer to the Lord, and the Lord gave ear to him, for he saw how cruelly Israel was crushed by the king of Aram.
4 아람 왕이 이스라엘을 학대하므로 여호아하스가 여호와께 간구하매 여호와께서 들으셨으니 이는 저희의 학대 받음을 보셨음이라
5 (And the LORDgaveIsrael a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israeldwelt in their tents, as beforetime.[x]MKJV: And the LORD gave Israel a deliverer, so that they went out from under the Syrians. And the sons of Israel lived in their tents, as before. BBE: (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they became free from the hands of the Aramaeans; and the children of Israel were living in their tents as in the past. 5 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they became free from the hands of the Aramaeans; and the children of Israel were living in their tents as in the past.
5 여호와께서 이에 구원자를 이스라엘에게 주시매 이스라엘 자손이 아람 사람의 손에서 벗어나 전과 같이 자기 장막에 거하였으나
6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israelsin, butwalked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)[x]MKJV: But they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel to sin, [but] walked in them. And also the Asherah in Samaria stood. BBE: But still they did not give up the sin of Jeroboam, which he made Israel do, but went on with it; and there was an image of Asherah in Samaria.) 6 But still they did not give up the sin of Jeroboam, which he made Israel do, but went on with it; and there was an image of Asherah in Samaria.)
6 저희가 이스라엘로 범죄케 한 여로보암 집의 죄에서 떠나지 아니하고 좇아 행하며 또 사마리아에 아세라 목상을 그저 두었더라
7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fiftyhorsemen, and tenchariots, and tenthousandfootmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.[x]MKJV: For He had not left a people remaining to Jehoahaz, but only fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them and had made them like the dust at threshing-time. BBE: For out of all his army, Jehoahaz had only fifty horsemen and ten carriages and ten thousand footmen; the king of Aram had given them up to destruction, crushing them like dust. 7 For out of all his army, Jehoahaz had only fifty horsemen and ten carriages and ten thousand footmen; the king of Aram had given them up to destruction, crushing them like dust.
7 아람 왕이 여호아하스의 백성을 진멸하여 타작마당의 티끌 같이 되게 하고 마병 오십과 병거 십승과 보병 일만 외에는 여호아하스에게 남겨두지 아니하였더라
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chroniclesof the kings of Israel?[x]MKJV: And the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, [are] they not written in the Book of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Israel? 12 요아스의 남은 사적과 무릇 행한 일과 유다 왕 아마샤와 싸운 권력은 이스라엘 왕 역대지략에 기록되지 아니하였느냐
13 And Joashslept with his fathers; and Jeroboamsat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.[x]MKJV: And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. BBE: And Joash went to rest with his fathers and Jeroboam took his place as king; and Joash was put into the earth in Samaria with the kings of Israel. KAV: 요아스가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들매 여로보암이 그의 왕좌에 앉으니라. 요아스가 이스라엘의 왕들과 함께 사마리아에 묻히니라.
13 And Joash went to rest with his fathers and Jeroboam took his place as king; and Joash was put into the earth in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.[x]MKJV: And Elisha had fallen sick with his illness in which he died. And Jehoash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over his face. And he said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen of it! BBE: Now Elisha became ill with the disease which was the cause of his death: and Joash, king of Israel, came down to him, and weeping over him said, My father, my father, the war-carriages of Israel and its horsemen! KAV: ¶ 이제 엘리사가 죽을병에 걸려 아프게 되니 이스라엘 왕 요아스가 그에게로 내려가 그의 얼굴에 눈물을 흘리며 이르되, 오 내 아버지여, 내 아버지여, 이스라엘의 병거와 그것의 기병들이여, 하매
14 Now Elisha became ill with the disease which was the cause of his death: and Joash, king of Israel, came down to him, and weeping over him said, My father, my father, the war-carriages of Israel and its horsemen!
14 엘리사가 죽을 병이 들매 이스라엘 왕 요아스가 저에게로 내려가서 그 얼굴에 눈물을 흘리며 가로되 내 아버지여 내 아버지여 이스라엘의 병거와 마병이여 하매
15 And Elishasaid unto him, Takebow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.[x]MKJV: And Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows. And he took bow and arrows to himself. BBE: Then Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows: and he took bow and arrows. KAV: 엘리사가 그에게 이르되, 활과 화살들을 취하소서, 하니 그가 활과 화살들을 취하니라.
15 Then Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows: and he took bow and arrows.

16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his handupon it: and Elishaput his hands upon the king'shands.[x]MKJV: And he said to the king of Israel, Put your hand on the bow. And he placed his hand. And Elisha put his hands on the king's hands. BBE: And he said to the king of Israel, Put your hand on the bow: and he put his hand on it; and Elisha put his hands on the king's hands. KAV: 그가 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되, 왕의 손으로 활을 잡으소서, 하니 그가 손으로 그것을 잡으매 엘리사가 자기 손을 왕의 손에 놓고
16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put your hand on the bow: and he put his hand on it; and Elisha put his hands on the king's hands.
16 또 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되 왕의 손으로 활을 잡으소서 곧 손으로 잡으매 엘리사가 자기 손으로 왕의 손을 안찰하고
17 And he said, Open the windoweastward. And he openedit. Then Elishasaid, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD'Sdeliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumedthem.[x]MKJV: And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened. And Elisha said, Shoot! And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria. For you shall strike the Syrians in Aphek until it is finished. BBE: Then he said; Let the window be open to the east: and he got it open. Then Elisha said, Let the arrow go; and he let it go. And he said, The Lord's arrow of salvation, of salvation over Aram; for you will overcome the Aramaeans in Aphek and put an end to them. KAV: 이르되, 동쪽으로 창을 여소서, 하니 그가 열매 이에 엘리사가 이르되, 쏘소서, 하므로 그가 쏘매, 엘리사가 이르되, 이것은 {주}의 구출의 화살 곧 시리아로부터 구출 받게 하는 화살이니 왕이 아벡에서 시리아 사람들을 치되 그들이 소멸될 때까지 치리이다, 하니라.
17 Then he said; Let the window be open to the east: and he got it open. Then Elisha said, Let the arrow go; and he let it go. And he said, The Lord's arrow of salvation, of salvation over Aram; for you will overcome the Aramaeans in Aphek and put an end to them.
17 가로되 동편 창을 여소서 곧 열매 엘리사가 가로되 쏘소서 곧 쏘매 엘리사가 가로되 이는 여호와의 구원의 살 곧 아람에 대한 구원의 살이니 왕이 아람 사람을 진멸하도록 아벡에서 치리이다
18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he tookthem. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smotethriceㆍ, and stayed.[x]MKJV: And he said, Take the arrows. And he took [them]. And he said to the king of Israel, Strike on the ground. And he struck three times and stopped. BBE: And he said, Take the arrows: and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, Send them down into the earth; and he did so three times and no more. KAV: 또 그가 이르되, 화살들을 취하소서, 하매 그가 취하니 엘리사가 또 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되, 땅을 치소서, 하매 그가 세 번 치고 멈추므로
18 And he said, Take the arrows: and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, Send them down into the earth; and he did so three times and no more.
18 또 가로되 살들을 취하소서 곧 취하매 엘리사가 또 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되 땅을 치소서 이에 세번 치고 그친지라
19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smittenfive or sixtimes; then hadst thou smittenSyria till thou hadst consumedit: whereas now thou shalt smiteSyriabutthrice.[x]MKJV: And the man of God was angry with him, and said, You should have stricken five or six times, then you would have stricken Syria until it was finished. But now you shall strike Syria three times. BBE: Then the man of God was angry with him and said, If you had done it five or six times, then you would have overcome Aram completely; but now you will only overcome them three times. KAV: [하나님]의 사람이 그에게 노하여 이르되, 왕이 대여섯 번을 치셨어야만 했나이다. 그리하였더라면 왕이 시리아를 치되 그것이 소멸될 때까지 치셨으리이다. 그러나 이제 왕이 시리아를 세 번만 치리이다, 하니라.
19 Then the man of God was angry with him and said, If you had done it five or six times, then you would have overcome Aram completely; but now you will only overcome them three times.
19 하나님의 사람이 노하여 가로되 왕이 오륙번을 칠 것이니이다 그리하였더면 왕이 아람을 진멸하도록 쳤으리이다 그런즉 이제는 왕이 아람을 세번만 치리이다 하니라
20 And Elishadied, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabitesinvaded the land at the coming in of the year.[x]MKJV: And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at first of the year. BBE: And death came to Elisha and they put his body into the earth. Now in the spring of the year, armed bands of Moabites frequently came, overrunning the land. KAV: ¶ 엘리사가 죽으매 그들이 그를 묻으니라. 새해가 되매 모압 족속의 무리들이 그 땅을 침범하니라.
20 And death came to Elisha and they put his body into the earth. Now in the spring of the year, armed bands of Moabites frequently came, overrunning the land.
20 엘리사가 죽으매 장사하였더니 해가 바뀌매 모압 적당이 지경을 범한지라
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a bandof men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.[x]MKJV: And it happened as they were burying a man, behold, they spied a band. And they threw the man into the grave of Elisha. And the man went down and touched the bones of Elisha, and revived and stood up on his feet. BBE: And while they were putting a dead man into the earth, they saw a band coming; and they put the man quickly into the place where Elisha's body was; and the dead man, on touching Elisha's bones, came to life again, and got up on his feet. 21 And while they were putting a dead man into the earth, they saw a band coming; and they put the man quickly into the place where Elisha's body was; and the dead man, on touching Elisha's bones, came to life again, and got up on his feet.
21 마침 사람을 장사하는 자들이 그 적당을 보고 그 시체를 엘리사의 묘실에 들이던지매 시체가 엘리사의 뼈에 닿자 곧 회생하여 일어 섰더라
22 But Hazaelking of SyriaoppressedIsrael all the days of Jehoahaz.[x]MKJV: But Hazael, the king of Syria, oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. BBE: And Israel was crushed under the power of Hazael, king of Aram, all the days of Jehoahaz. KAV: ¶ 그러나 여호아하스 왕의 평생 동안 시리아 왕 하사엘이 이스라엘을 학대하니라.
22 And Israel was crushed under the power of Hazael, king of Aram, all the days of Jehoahaz.

23 And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.[x]MKJV: And the LORD was gracious to them, and had pity on them, and had respect to them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And He would not destroy them, nor cast them from His presence as yet. BBE: But the Lord was kind to them and had pity on them, caring for them, because of his agreement with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; he would not put them to destruction or send them away from before his face till now. KAV: {주}께서 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 맺은 자신의 언약으로 인하여 그들에게 은혜를 베푸사 그들을 불쌍히 여기시고 그들에게 관심을 두시며 그들을 멸하려 하지 아니하시고 아직 자신의 앞에서 그들을 쫓아내려 하지 아니하셨더라.
23 But the Lord was kind to them and had pity on them, caring for them, because of his agreement with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; he would not put them to destruction or send them away from before his face till now.
23 여호와께서 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱으로 더불어 세우신 언약을 인하여 이스라엘에게 은혜를 베풀어 긍휼히 여기시며 권고하사 멸하기를 즐겨 아니하시고 이때까지 자기 앞에서 쫓아내지 아니하셨더라
24 So Hazaelking of Syriadied; and Benhadad his sonreigned in his stead.[x]MKJV: And Hazael king of Syria died. And his son Ben-hadad reigned in his place. BBE: Then Hazael, king of Aram, came to his end; and Ben-hadad his son became king in his place. KAV: 이처럼 시리아 왕 하사엘이 죽고 그의 아들 벤하닷이 그를 대신하여 통치하매
24 Then Hazael, king of Aram, came to his end; and Ben-hadad his son became king in his place.

25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaztookagain out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Threetimes did Joashbeat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.[x]MKJV: And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz returned and took out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Jehoash struck him three times and recovered the cities of Israel. BBE: And Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, took again from Ben-hadad, the son of Hazael, the towns which he had taken from Jehoahaz his father in war. Three times Jehoash overcame him and got back the towns of Israel. KAV: 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에서 도시들을 다시 빼앗았는데 이 도시들은 벤하닷이 여호아스의 아버지 여호아하스의 손에서 싸움을 통해 빼앗은 것이더라. 요아스가 벤하닷을 세 번 치고 이스라엘의 도시들을 회복하였더라.
25 And Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, took again from Ben-hadad, the son of Hazael, the towns which he had taken from Jehoahaz his father in war. Three times Jehoash overcame him and got back the towns of Israel.
25 여호아하스의 아들 요아스가 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에서 두어 성읍을 회복하였으니 이 성읍들은 자기 부친 여호아하스가 전쟁 중에 빼앗겼던 것이라 요아스가 벤하닷을 세번 쳐서 파하고 이스라엘 성읍들을 회복하였더라
