1 Now after these things and this true-hearted work, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came into Judah, and put his army in position before the walled towns of Judah, designing to make his way into them by force.

And they helped him. BBE: He took up with his rulers and men of war the question of stopping up the water-springs outside the town; and they gave him their support.
3 He took up with his rulers and men of war the question of stopping up the water-springs outside the town; and they gave him their support.

BBE: Be strong and take heart; have no fear, and do not be troubled on account of the king of Assyria and all the great army with him: for there is a greater with us.
7 Be strong and take heart; have no fear, and do not be troubled on account of the king of Assyria and all the great army with him: for there is a greater with us.
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the peoplerested themselves upon the words of Hezekiahking of Judah.[x]MKJV: With him [is] an arm of flesh, but with us [is] the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people put their faith in what Hezekiah, king of Judah, said.
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but we have the Lord our God, helping us and fighting for us. And the people put their faith in what Hezekiah, king of Judah, said.
9After this did Sennacheribking of Assyriasend his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiahking of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,[x]MKJV: After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem; and he [was] against Lachish, and all his forces with him against Hezekiah king of Judah, and against all Judah in Jerusalem, saying, BBE: After this, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, sent his servants to Jerusalem (at that time he was stationed with all his army in front of Lachish), to say to Hezekiah and all the men of Judah in Jerusalem, KAV: ¶ 이 일 후에 아시리아 왕 산헤립이 자기 신하들을 예루살렘에 보내었으나 (자기는 직접 자기의 온 병력과 함께 라기스를 에워싸고 있었더라.)
9 After this, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, sent his servants to Jerusalem (at that time he was stationed with all his army in front of Lachish), to say to Hezekiah and all the men of Judah in Jerusalem,
10 Thus saithSennacheribking of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?[x]MKJV: Sennacherib king of Assyria says this, On what do you trust that you sit under siege in Jerusalem? BBE: Sennacherib, king of Assyria, says, In what are you placing your hope, waiting here in the walled town of Jerusalem?
10 Sennacherib, king of Assyria, says, In what are you placing your hope, waiting here in the walled town of Jerusalem?
11 Doth not Hezekiahpersuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?[x]MKJV: Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give yourselves over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria? BBE: Is it not Hezekiah who has got you to do it, causing your death from need of food and water, by saying, The Lord our God will give us salvation out of the hands of the king of Assyria?
11 Is it not Hezekiah who has got you to do it, causing your death from need of food and water, by saying, The Lord our God will give us salvation out of the hands of the king of Assyria?
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commandedJudah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worshipbeforeonealtar, and burn incense upon it?[x]MKJV: Has not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, You shall worship before one altar and burn incense on it? BBE: Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Give worship before one altar only, burning offerings on it?
12 Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Give worship before one altar only, burning offerings on it?
13Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of otherlands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any waysable to deliver their lands out of mine hand?[x]MKJV: Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their lands out of my hands? BBE: Have you no knowledge of what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of every land? were the gods of the nations of those lands able to keep their land from falling into my hands?
13 Have you no knowledge of what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of every land? were the gods of the nations of those lands able to keep their land from falling into my hands?
14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that coulddeliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?[x]MKJV: Who among all the gods of those nations that my fathers completely destroyed [is] able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand? 14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations, which my fathers put to destruction, who was able to keep his people safe from my hands? and is it possible that your God will keep you safe from my hands?
15 Now therefore let notHezekiahdeceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your Goddeliver you out of mine hand?[x]MKJV: And now do not let Hezekiah deceive you or persuade you in this way, nor yet believe him. For no god of any nation was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less shall your god deliver you out of my hand? BBE: So do not be tricked by Hezekiah or let him get you to do this, and do not put any faith in what he says: for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to keep his people safe from my hands, or the hands of my fathers: how much less will your God keep you safe from my hands!
15 So do not be tricked by Hezekiah or let him get you to do this, and do not put any faith in what he says: for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to keep his people safe from my hands, or the hands of my fathers: how much less will your God keep you safe from my hands!
16 And his servantsspake yet more against the LORDGod, and against his servantHezekiah.[x]MKJV: And his servants spoke still [more] against the LORD God, and against His servant Hezekiah. BBE: And his servants said even more against the Lord God and against his servant Hezekiah.
16 And his servants said even more against the Lord God and against his servant Hezekiah.
17 He wrote also letters to rail on the LORDGod of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of otherlands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiahdeliver his people out of mine hand.[x]MKJV: He also wrote letters to revile the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, As the gods of the nations of [other] lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver His people out of my hand. BBE: And he sent letters, in addition, to put shame on the Lord, the God of Israel, and to say evil against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not been able to keep their people safe from my hands, no more will the God of Hezekiah keep his people safe from my hands.
17 And he sent letters, in addition, to put shame on the Lord, the God of Israel, and to say evil against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not been able to keep their people safe from my hands, no more will the God of Hezekiah keep his people safe from my hands.
18 Then they cried with a loudvoice in the Jews speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.[x]MKJV: And they cried out with a loud voice [in] Jewish to the people of Jerusalem on the wall, in order to frighten them and to trouble them, so that they might take the city. BBE: These things they said, crying out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, with the purpose of troubling them and putting fear into them, so that they might take the town; KAV:
18 These things they said, crying out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, with the purpose of troubling them and putting fear into them, so that they might take the town;
19 And they spakeagainst the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.[x]MKJV: And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of the hands of man. BBE: Talking of the God of Jerusalem as if he was like the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of men's hands.
19 Talking of the God of Jerusalem as if he was like the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of men's hands.
20 And for this causeHezekiah the king, and the prophetIsaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.[x]MKJV: And for this [reason] Hezekiah the king and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz prayed and cried to Heaven. BBE: And Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, made prayer because of this, crying out to heaven.
20 And Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, made prayer because of this, crying out to heaven.
21 And the LORDsent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowelsslew him there with the sword.[x]MKJV: And the LORD sent an angel to cut off all the mighty men of power, and the leaders and commanders in the camp of the king of Assyria. And he returned with shame of face to his own land. And he came into the house of his god, and those from his own bowels killed him there with the sword. BBE: And the Lord sent an angel who put to death all the men of war and the chiefs and the captains in the army of the king of Assyria. So he went back to his country in shame. And when he came into the house of his god, his sons, the offspring of his body, put him to death there with the sword.
21 And the Lord sent an angel who put to death all the men of war and the chiefs and the captains in the army of the king of Assyria. So he went back to his country in shame. And when he came into the house of his god, his sons, the offspring of his body, put him to death there with the sword.
22 Thus the LORDsavedHezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.[x]MKJV: And the LORD saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all [others], and guided them on every side. BBE: So the Lord gave Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem salvation from the power of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, and from all others, giving them rest on every side.
22 So the Lord gave Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem salvation from the power of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, and from all others, giving them rest on every side.
23 And manybroughtgifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiahking of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.[x]MKJV: And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from that time on. BBE: And great numbers came to Jerusalem with offerings for the Lord, and things of great price for Hezekiah, king of Judah: so that he was honoured among all nations from that time.
23 And great numbers came to Jerusalem with offerings for the Lord, and things of great price for Hezekiah, king of Judah: so that he was honoured among all nations from that time.
24 In those daysHezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.[x]MKJV: In those days Hezekiah was sick to death, and prayed to the LORD. And He spoke to him, and He gave him a sign. BBE: In those days Hezekiah was ill and near death; and he made prayer to the Lord, and the Lord in answer gave him a sign.
24 In those days Hezekiah was ill and near death; and he made prayer to the Lord, and the Lord in answer gave him a sign.
25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefitdone unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.[x]MKJV: But Hezekiah did not give again according to the good [done] to him, for his heart was lifted up. And there was wrath on him and on Judah and Jerusalem. BBE: But Hezekiah did not do as had been done to him; for his heart was lifted up in pride; and so wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.
25 But Hezekiah did not do as had been done to him; for his heart was lifted up in pride; and so wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiahhumbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORDcame not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.[x]MKJV: And Hezekiah was humbled for the pride of his heart, he and the people of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah. BBE: But then, Hezekiah, in sorrow for what he had done, put away his pride; and he and all Jerusalem made themselves low, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come on them in Hezekiah's life-time.
26 But then, Hezekiah, in sorrow for what he had done, put away his pride; and he and all Jerusalem made themselves low, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come on them in Hezekiah's life-time.
27 And Hezekiah had exceedingmuchriches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for preciousstones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasantjewels;[x]MKJV: And Hezekiah had exceedingly much riches and honor. And he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of pleasant jewels. BBE: And Hezekiah had very great wealth and honour; and he made himself store-houses for his gold and silver and jewels and spices, and for body-covers and all sorts of beautiful vessels.
