1 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he was ruling for forty years in Jerusalem: his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

5 And getting together the priests and Levites, he said to them, Go out into the towns of Judah year by year, and get from all Israel money to keep the house of your God in good condition; and see that this is done without loss of time. The Levites, however, were slow in doing so.

6 Then the king sent for Jehoiada, the chief priest, and said to him, Why have you not given the Levites orders that the tax fixed by Moses, the servant of the Lord, and by the meeting of Israel, for the Tent of witness, is to be got in from Judah and Jerusalem and handed over?

7 For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.[x]MKJV: For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, have broken up the house of God. And also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD they have given to Baals. BBE: For the house of the Lord had been broken up by Athaliah, that evil woman, and her sons; and all its holy things they had given to the Baals. 7 For the house of the Lord had been broken up by Athaliah, that evil woman, and her sons; and all its holy things they had given to the Baals.
7 이는 그 악한 여인 아달랴의 아들들이 하나님의 전을 깨뜨리고 또 여호와의 전의 모든 성물을 바알들에게 드렸음이었더라
8 And at the king'scommandment they madeachest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.[x]MKJV: And the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of the LORD. BBE: So at the king's order they made a chest and put it outside the doorway of the house of the Lord. KAV: 왕의 명령대로 그들이 궤 하나를 만들어 {주}의 집 문 밖에 두고

9 And an order was sent out through all Judah and Jerusalem that payment was to be made to the Lord of the tax which Moses, the servant of God, had put on Israel in the waste land.

11 Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king'soffice by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there wasmuchmoney, the king'sscribe and the highpriest'sofficercame and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his placeagain. Thus they didday by day, and gatheredmoney in abundance.[x]MKJV: And it happened at the time the chest was brought into the king's office by the Levites, and when they saw that the silver [was] abundant, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it and carried it to its place again. So they did day by day, and gathered a great amount of silver. BBE: So when the chest was taken to the king's servants by the Levites, and they saw that there was much money in it, the king's scribe and the chief priest's servant took the money out, and put the chest back in its place. They did this day by day, and got together a great amount of money. KAV: 이제 레위 사람들의 손으로 그 궤를 왕의 관청으로 가지고 갔을 때에 그들이 거기에 돈이 많은 것을 보면 왕의 서기관과 대제사장의 관리가 와서 그 궤를 비우고 그것을 취하여 다시 그것의 자리에 가져다 두었더라. 그들이 날마다 이와 같이 하여 돈을 많이 거두매
11 So when the chest was taken to the king's servants by the Levites, and they saw that there was much money in it, the king's scribe and the chief priest's servant took the money out, and put the chest back in its place. They did this day by day, and got together a great amount of money.
11 언제든지 레위 사람들이 궤를 메고 왕의 유사에게 가서 돈이 많은 것을 보면 왕의 서기관과 대제사장에게 속한 아전이 와서 그 궤를 쏟고 다시 그 처소에 갖다 두었더라 때때로 이렇게하여 돈을 많이 거두매
12 And the king and Jehoiadagave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hiredmasons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wroughtiron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.[x]MKJV: And the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of the LORD. And they hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also artisans in iron and bronze, to mend the house of the LORD. BBE: Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who were responsible for getting the work done on the Lord's house, and with it they got wall-builders and woodworkers and metal-workers to put the house of the Lord in good order again. KAV: 왕과 여호야다가 그 돈을 {주}의 집을 위해 섬기는 일을 하는 자들에게 주고 석공과 목수를 고용하여 {주}의 집을 보수하며 또 쇠와 놋으로 일하는 자들을 고용하여 {주}의 집을 고치게 하였더니
12 Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who were responsible for getting the work done on the Lord's house, and with it they got wall-builders and woodworkers and metal-workers to put the house of the Lord in good order again.
12 왕과 여호야다가 그 돈을 여호와의 전 간역자에게 주어 석수와 목수를 고용하여 여호와의 전을 중수하며 또 철공장과 놋공장을 고용하여 여호와의 전을 수리하게 하였더니
13 So the workmenㆍwrought, and the workwasperfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.[x]MKJV: And the workmen worked, and the work was completed by them, and they set the house of God in its proper state and made it strong. BBE: So the workmen did their work, making good what was damaged and building up the house of God till it was strong and beautiful again. KAV: 이에 일하는 자들이 일하여 그 일을 완전하게 하였고 또 그들이 [하나님]의 집을 그것의 원래 상태로 세우고 견고하게 하니라.

And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORDcontinually all the days of Jehoiada.[x]MKJV: And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the silver before the king and Jehoiada. Of this silver were made vessels for the house of the LORD, vessels to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. BBE: And when the work was done, they took the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and it was used for making the vessels for the house of the Lord, all the vessels needed for the offerings, the spoons and the vessels of gold and silver. And as long as Jehoiada was living, the regular burned offerings were offered in the house of the Lord. 14 And when the work was done, they took the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and it was used for making the vessels for the house of the Lord, all the vessels needed for the offerings, the spoons and the vessels of gold and silver. And as long as Jehoiada was living, the regular burned offerings were offered in the house of the Lord.

15 But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirtyyearsoldwas he when he died.[x]MKJV: But Jehoiada became old, and was full of days when he died. 16 And they put him into his last resting-place in the town of David, among the kings, because he had done good in Israel for God and for his house.

17 Now after the death of Jehoiadacame the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the kinghearkened unto them.[x]MKJV: And after the death of Jehoiada the rulers of Judah came and bowed down to the king. And the king listened to them. BBE: Now after the death of Jehoiada, the chiefs of Judah came and went down on their faces before the king. Then the king gave ear to them. KAV: 이제 여호야다가 죽은 뒤에 유다의 통치자들이 와서 왕에게 경의를 표하매 그때에 왕이 그들의 말에 귀를 기울이더라.
17 Now after the death of Jehoiada, the chiefs of Judah came and went down on their faces before the king. Then the king gave ear to them.

KAV: [하나님]의 [영]께서 제사장 여호야다의 아들 스가랴에게 임하시매 그가 백성 위에 서서 그들에게 이르되, [하나님]께서 이같이 말씀하시기를, 너희가 어찌하여 {주}의 명령을 범함으로 형통하지 못하느냐? 하시나니 너희가 {주}를 버렸으므로 그분께서도 너희를 버리셨느니라, 하매
20 Then the spirit of God came on Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, and, getting up before the people, he said to them, God has said, Why do you go against the orders of the Lord, so that everything goes badly for you? because you have given up the Lord, he has given you up.
20 이에 하나님의 신이 제사장 여호야다의 아들 스가랴를 감동시키시매 저가 백성 앞에 높이 서서 저희에게 이르되 여호와께서 말씀하시기를 너희가 어찌하여 여호와의 명령을 거역하여 스스로 형통치 못하게 하느냐 하셨나니 너희가 여호와를 버린고로 여호와께서도 너희를 버리셨느니라 하나

And when he died, he said, The LORD will seek [you out]. BBE: So King Joash did not keep in mind how good Jehoiada his father had been to him, but put his son to death. 22 So King Joash did not keep in mind how good Jehoiada his father had been to him, but put his son to death. And in the hour of his death he said, May the Lord see it and take payment!

23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.[x]MKJV: And it happened at the end of the year the army of Syria came up against him. And they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the rulers of the people from among the people, and sent all the plunder of them to the king of Damascus. BBE: Now in the spring, the army of the Aramaeans came up against him; they came against Judah and Jerusalem, putting to death all the great men of the people and sending all the goods they took from them to the king of Damascus. KAV: ¶ 그 해가 끝날 때에 시리아 군대가 요아스를 치려고 올라와서 유다와 예루살렘에 이르러 백성 가운데서 백성의 모든 통치자를 멸하고 그들에게서 노략한 물건을 다마스커스의 왕에게로 보내니라.
23 Now in the spring, the army of the Aramaeans came up against him; they came against Judah and Jerusalem, putting to death all the great men of the people and sending all the goods they took from them to the king of Damascus.
23 일주년 후에 아람 군대가 요아스를 치려하여 올라와서 유다와 예루살렘에 이르러 백성 중에서 그 모든 방백을 멸절하고 노략한 물건을 다메섹 왕에게로 보내니라
24 For the army of the Syrianscame with a small company of men, and the LORDdelivered a verygreathost into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORDGod of their fathers. So they executedjudgment against Joash.[x]MKJV: For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken the God of the fathers. And they executed judgment against Joash. BBE: For though the army of Aram was only a small one, the Lord gave a very great army into their hands, because they had given up the Lord, the God of their fathers. So they put into effect the punishment of Joash. KAV: 시리아 사람들의 군대가 적은 무리의 사람들로 왔으나 그들이 {주} 곧 자기 조상들의 [하나님]을 버렸으므로 {주}께서 심히 큰 군대를 그들의 손에 넘겨주셨더라. 이처럼 시리아 사람들이 요아스를 치고 심판을 집행하니라.
24 For though the army of Aram was only a small one, the Lord gave a very great army into their hands, because they had given up the Lord, the God of their fathers. So they put into effect the punishment of Joash.

25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in greatdiseases,) his own servantsconspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.[x]MKJV: And when they had departed from him (for they left him in great diseases), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died. KAV: 그들이 그에게서 떠나면서 (큰 병을 앓는 그를 남겨 두었으므로) 그의 신하들이 제사장 여호야다의 아들들의 피로 인해 그를 대적하여 음모를 꾸미고 그의 침상에서 그를 살해하니 그가 죽으니라. 그들이 그를 다윗의 도시에 묻었으나 왕들의 돌무덤에 묻지는 아니하였더라.
25 And when they had gone away from him, (for he was broken with disease,) his servants made a secret design against him because of the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they put him to death on his bed; and they put his body into the earth in the town of David, but not in the resting-place of the kings.
25 요아스가 크게 상하매 적군이 버리고 간 후에 그 신복들이 제사장 여호야다의 아들들의 피로 인하여 모반하여 그 침상에서 쳐 죽인지라 다윗성에 장사하였으나 열왕의 묘실에는 장사하지 아니 하였더라
26 And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.[x]MKJV: And these are the ones who conspired against him Zabad the son of Shimeath of Ammon, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess. 26 Those who made designs against him were Zabad, the son of Shimeath, an Ammonite woman, and Jehozabad, the son of Shimrith, a Moabite woman.
26 모반한 자는 암몬 여인 시므앗의 아들 사밧과 모압 여인 시므릿의 아들 여호사밧이더라
27 Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdenslaid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they arewritten in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his sonreigned in his stead.[x]MKJV: And [as to] his sons, and the greatness of the burdens on him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the Book of the Kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place. BBE: Now the story of his sons, and all the words said by the prophet against him, and the building up again of the Lord's house, are recorded in the account in the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son became king in his place. KAV: ¶ 보라, 이제 요아스의 아들들과 요아스에게 임한 크고 엄중한 부담들과 [하나님]의 집을 보수한 일들은 왕들에 관한 책의 실록에 기록되어 있느니라. 그의 아들 아마샤가 그를 대신하여 통치하니라.
27 Now the story of his sons, and all the words said by the prophet against him, and the building up again of the Lord's house, are recorded in the account in the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son became king in his place.
27 요아스의 아들들의 사적과 요아스의 중대한 경책을 받은 것과 하나님의 전 중수한 사적은 다 열왕기 주석에 기록되니라 그 아들 아마샤가 대신하여 왕이 되니라
